Hello everyone,
I've stopy played D&D long time ago due to the lack of good groups and good DMs around here. But now I want to get back on the track I need to buy the 3.5 core books....I see that there are two Dungeons Master Guides 1 and 2...
Is it worthy taking both?I'd like your opinion on this, as well if you could post what's interesting on both books and what are the differences between them I would be really grateful.
Thank you :P

Well you need the DMG play, that a given.

The DMG2 is pretty cool, It has more content and such to add on to the first one.

If you have the money, you might as well both, it wouldn't hurt =3

But you at LEAST need to buy DMG1

I was checking the tables of contents...it seems that the DMG II just adds some more in deph things for campaing setting like buildings, law etc.
The one thing that caught my attention was the new terrain rules wich seem to be very interesting to make the combat more structured.
But I think as for now I'll only get the DMG I.

As well for the Monster Guide I still have the 3.0 version, is it really necessary to update it? And about the book Monster of Faerun does it cover the same variety of monster as the Monster GUide?
I ask that because my campaing setting will Forgotten Realms so...

Thank you again.

I never played 3.0, so i dont know how similar the MM.0 and the MM.5 are, but I suggest getting the 3.5 version.

As for monsters of Faerun...
It has monsters that are made specificlly for the Faerun setting. Personally I dont think you need it. You can easly get by with the MM.

I assume you have a PHB...

Just so you know, there is a new DMG coming out in June that will be used for all future releases. 4th Edition of D&D and all. But the one you're eyeing is still good for 3rd Edition books.

Just bought the PHB and DMG I online XD.
I'll be using my Forgotten Realms 3.0 Campaing Setting is there any problem?
I don't see what 3.5 could change about the history, regions and etc...

Yes sir, I'm aware of the 4ed...but as for the info I've reading it doesn't seem as appealing to me.
I'm not fond of simplifing things to reach a broader audience, hence I stop playing Soul Calibur...that's another history xD.

If you want to start with D&D 3.5 Forgotten Realms, here is some info you will need.

Make sure what version of the rulebooks you ordered. The 3.5 books look nearly identical to the 3.0 books, except that the 3.5 books have a small note at the bottom that it is 3.5

Books published on or after July 2003 are for 3.5, before that is 3.0 (with a couple of "transitionary" books like Underdark but not much problem there).

The campaign setting book was written during 3.0 time. You're right, the fluff is the same, except 3.0 to 3.5 covered a period of a year or two. The mechanics however are significantly different from 3.0 to 3.5, and I would generally recommend 3.5 if you have the option.

To "update" the campaign setting to 3.5, there is the Player's Guide to Faerun. It updates almost all spells and prestige classes mechanically to fit 3.5 better and for balance reasons (though many people feel the 3.5 Incantatrix is still overpowered).

The book Monsters of Faerun contains monsters you won't find in the Monster Manual 1. A couple of monsters have migrated to later books, but the majority are probably still unique (and a good collection for the FR lore). There is a free update for those monsters here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040313a

It contains updates to several different 3.0 book monsters.

Additionally, several monsters originally appearing in Monsters of Faerun have been reprinted in other 3.5 FR books, and their stat blocks are slightly different than the web enhancement's version. Not tremendously different, but slightly, like feat choices and skill point allocations.

In my opinion:

You "need" DMG1 to play the game.

DMG2 is an interesting read, but not necessary at all.

Other books that I consider "need" for 3.5

Player's Handbook 1 (duh)
Monster Manual 1 (duh)

Player's Handbook 2 (lots of great stuff in here)

(most) "Complete" books (Some of these are still 3.0, but still useful (download their 3.5 updates). I would skip Complete Adventurer, Complete Scoundrel, Complete Champion, and Complete Psionic unless you have money to burn... but that may be just my playstyle.)

Magic Item Compendium (Tons of great items/enchantments)

Spell Compendium (Tons of spells, many (all?) sources are re-prints but nice to have in one book).

Stronghold Builder's Guidebook (Still a 3.0 book, but the BEST resource for your player's buildings and making your built dungeons better).

I hate 3.0+ Psionics so I did not include its guidebook.
