ArchMage0271 08-14-06, 12:45 AM	Fellow gamers, I have spent the past few weeks updating my 3.0 books(Deities and Demigods, Fiend Folio, MM II, ELHB), too 3.5. However, I have run into a bit of a situation.... I have been using the recent D&D errata provided by WOTC to update these books... I have the 3.5 update booklet printed out and I have the 3.5 books.... But the errata has changed somethings inside the DMG, PHB and MMI that are 3.5 already.... So my question is after I use the errata to update the 3.0 books should I go back and use the 3.5 update booklet to do it again.... The errata is clear, I mean it has page numbers and says what to delete and how to replace things... The 3.5 update book is not clear at all no page numbers no nothing... Also is this errata provided by WOTC designed to superceed the 3.5 update booklet? please help
Mitchell 08-14-06, 04:12 AM	Been a long while since I looked at this stuff, and didn't really study it, so some (or all) of this may be worthless... Dates: If the info is dated, then I would think the newer stuff applies. You may have to jump back and forth a little, or it may be plain. Order: Use the update info to make your material 3.5, then use the 3.5 eratta to make it right. Then stop. Don't worry about changing something that you just changed, as it was wrong when it was changed, so it needed to be changed again. Sense: Sometimes mistakes are made, and sometimes they slip through the cracks, so if something is plainly wrong, avoid it or fix it as best you can. Some of this is easy (Monster X has Y many HD and a con of Z. They say it has "A" HP but math shows it should have "B"), while some may not be so (A monster may have an inappropriate CR. It may be easy to determine this, if the party is wiped by what should have been an easy challenge, or they walk right through what should have been difficult, for example, but sometimes it may not be so clear).

It was created to correct the 3.5 publications. I would not recommend using it to update 3.0 in the first place.The 3.5 update book is not clear at all no page numbers no nothing... That is because the 3.5 update book is not designed to "change" your 3.0 rule books. Rather, it is designed to update your thinking so you can know what areas of 3.0 you may have grown used to that will need changed in your thinking.Also is this errata provided by WOTC designed to superceed the 3.5 update booklet?Yes and No. Yes, it supercedes anything you may think you know from the update booklet. No, it was not designed with the update booklet in mind at all.
ArchMage0271 08-15-06, 02:49 AM	So this is one of the situations I am looking at.. The ELPHB lists the Anaxim, Abomination as a Medium-size Construct, Outsider (Lawful) with a Face/Reach 5ft by 5ft/5ft, and lists no damage reduction.... The 3.5 update booklet lists the same creature as Construct (extraplanar,Lawful), with Face/Reach the same at 5ft/5ft but then goes on to give the creature a damage reduction of 10/chaotic and epic adamantine... So it looks like the 3.5 update book is giving me 2 changes to make to the creature....that is good... The ELPHB errta says this Page 159, Abomination, Anaxim, Rend: Change the first sentence to read :if the anaxim hits with both spinning blades, it slices particularly well" So I guess I am answering my own guestion... The 3.5 updatebooklet is adding somethings not changeing them and the errta is making changes based on the way playertesters are reevaluating the game? I want my books to be uptodate so I am not lost in the game..... It is hard on the players when the GM is lost looking for something.... And I guess I have been looking at so much errata that I caused my own confussion. :rolleyes: Anywyas I will update the books using the update and errata cause my players like a DM who is on his toes...... :D
Nom 08-15-06, 07:29 AM	The core part of the 3.5 update booklet lets you know what new rules correspond to the old 3.0 rules. The rest is guidelines and fudges for use if you don't have the relevant 3.5 sourcebook. The errata is official rules changes to the official 3.5 rules. Since the results of using the 3.5 update booklet on 3.0 monsters don't necessarily result in the exact 3.5 creatures anyway, applying 3.5 errata to them is likely to produce poor results.
