(I couldn't find a topic like this using the search, so if there's a topic just like this one, please any wizo lock this one and someone please give me the link. Thanks)

It has been 9 months since 3.5 was released, and I had some problems at home, so only now I'm buying it. I would like to know, what do you guys think of it? Please, give me and Yes or No answer. You can write a short message with the pros and cons, but, please, give me a Yes or No answer, and keep the messages short. I would like to know what is the overall opinion about 3.5

Thanks!

Do you have 3.0? Are you in a 3.0 campaign? If yes to both (or just one, it depends on how much money you like spending), then No.

I prefer 3.5 over 3.0, but I know many people (through these boards) who prefer 3.0 over 3.5

My recommendation is that if you are buying the books and are not yet in a group, buy 3.5 because it is current and currently supported. If you have a group already *and* they play 3.0, then get 3.0.

I use 3.5 most of the time, but sometimes (with one group that rarely meets) I use 3.0.
Out of the two I prefer 3.5.

I have played both, prefer 3.5 but love 3rd edition period. Seriously, if you are just getting the core books go for the 3.5 books. They are supported and better organized.

3.5 is a vast improvement over 3.0. If you can afford it, and aren't playing with diehard 3.0 lovers who refuse to change, then get 3.5.

I bought 3.5 and have no regrets. But you would do better to view the changes (see link in sig) and make your own decision.

I would recommend 3.5 as it takes care of some of the problems with 3.0. Really though, it just a matter of preference, so I would look at a page that shows you the differences with 3.5 before you start buying any 3.5 products.

I would say 3.5 all the way. It fixes most of the problems I had the 3e. Finally Rangers and Bards are viable classes. That fact alone makes 3.5 worth it to me.

Make no mistake though, 3.5 won't solve all your problems. It'll probably introduce a few. But I've never regretted the switch. It's not perfect, but it's better than anything else.

3.5 if you can afford it - if not get the SRD, the changes between 3.0 and 3.5 while not vast... are significant (and better)

I use rules from both 3.0 and 3.5 as needed to make and keep my campaign fun for all. I just broke down and bought the 3.5 PHB and DMG, the rest of my books are 3.0 I think and I have not had any real trouble in my games. Rule 0 solves it all.

I'm afirm supporter of 3.5, though I'll agree that you should prolly check out the changes first before you buy.

I'm thinking... no.

Honestly, I can't find anything spectacular about 3.5 that would warrant abandoning 3.0. There are improvements, I'll grant you that; but the bad (or just the useless) outweighs them by far.

I was not necessarily reticent so much as taken aback at buying 3.5 and luckily I didn't have to buy it... I got my PHB and DMG in a trade with my retailer and after looking the material over am very glad I did because it is better. I noticed cracks in 3.0 now that I didn't notice before...

I would say though, if your 3.0 books are in good shape, no. I traded because mine were VERY well used and I needed to get new ones.

If you don't have the core rules... yes.

Oh and 3.0 is still supported, the changes aren't so significant that the entire catalogue is useless. Go ahead and use the material and anything that isn't updated assume is still as is and with DR, just follow the MM as a guide line and bam.

I'd say upgrade to 3.5. I used the SRD to acquaint myself with the rules changes (there weren't terribly many, but those that were there were by and large better), and then bought myself a couple o' splatbooks. I like splatbooks. If you do, then you should upgrade too. It's free either way.

First, there must be dozens of arguments about this, next time look harder.
Second, it all depends on your situation and your group.
Third, I am playing 3.0 and will not change.

Kilimar, don't you think your being a little rough on this guy? Everyone who has posted, including myself dosen't seem to mind if this has been posted before. Mabey opinions have changed ever so slightly. Just listen to your mom, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all."

YES

I've been running a Forgotten Realms Campaign that started at the time Third Edition was released.

My group voted to fully convert to 3.5 when it came out and we've yet to find cause to regret our decision (the players all had PCs of about 15th level at the time).

On the contrary, conversion was easy, game play has improved, the game is more balanced and Third Party D20 material is also being revised and produced for 3.5, which makes the game even more fun.

3.5, especially if you're experiencing any mechanical problems. Absurdly high Save DC's and AC are non-issues, as well as a slew of other fixes. 3.0 isn't unplayable -- heck, it's still 3rd edition. However there is more than enough reason to make the switch.

I own both 3.0 and 3.5 material, and I sometimes amuse myself by reading through some 3.0 books and thinking to myself, "How in the world did they allow that?"

Go for 3.5.
Yamaneko

No, especially if you already own 3.0.
Since 3.5 isn't fundamentally better or worse than 3.0, there's really no need to change.

No, don't buy the books if you have 3ed already. just use the conversion guides and the SRD.

why not just wait for 4.0 to come out? Save yourself the hassle of unloading your OOP 3E/3.5 stuff later down the line. (dont you just love stability in a gaming co.)

Read the SRD (or better yet someone else 3.5 rulebook) and make the decision that is best for your group. (and for you)

All anyone on the boards can give you is an opinion based on what they think.

Some think 3.5 fixes all the problems. (no edition has ever done this, and 3.5 is no different)

Some think 3.5 introduces more problems than it attempts to fix. (I have not noticed this, however)

I personally play 3.5, but that is the decision my group made after playtesting it for a few weeks. The right decision based on what you find to be enjoyable may be different. (or it may be the same, who knows)

If you have a group that plays 3.0 and has no plans to change, get that.

If you and your players are new (or just getting back in after something like second edition) get 3.5.

3.5 it is then. I see most of you are at least neutral about 3.5. Since I don't have the core books, and the one guy who had it in our group isn't playing with us anymore, I have to buy either 3.0 or 3.5. Just decided for 3.5. Thanks to you all!
