Starting wealth is in the PHB. Ask your DM what starting wealth s/he allows, if it is different.

Starting wealth for 1st level characters is on page 111 of the 3.5 Player's Handbook.

What is the starting (dice) gold to roll for in the PHB? I just don't have my book handy, and that is the only info I need.

4d4x10 gp

I always allow a basic set of equipment though, rather than a set gp limit. I generally allow an

Instrument
Weapon
Light armor(studded leather or worse)
A few odds and ends
about 1 gp travelling funds.

Since I play in the realms the starting region grants a boon. So a single piece of masterwork equipment is allowed. Like a MW longsword, Light warhorse, MW chain shirt, or MW instrument.

Thank you very much, I will consider the starting package idea though, it makes a lot of sense.:)

Thank you!:D

If you don't have your book, how is knowing the starting gold going to help you buy your starting equipment?

[The cynic in me suspects that you do not own a Player's Handbook, and have discovered that starting gold is not in the SRD. The cynic in me is not a fan of folks who do this. And the cynic in me recognizes that he is not always accurate in his assessment.]

Well, a lot of the D20 supplements and settings I have read have reprintings of most of the equipment chapter in them.

I like to see the best in people.

Seeker95,
I remember what most items cost, but I didn't remember how much a bard gets to start.

Also Thanks again Capn Charlie! :D

Just for emphasis:

The cynic in me recognizes that he is not always accurate in his assessment.

Or phrased another way:

The cynic in me is often wrong. :D
