| J67610-19-04, 08:57 PM | Hello, I'm a DM in a game right now and the PCs in my dungeon just leveled up to level 3. But I've faced a problem: I don't know what skills are augmented or what new skills the characters get (the characters are a Human Fighter, a Halfling Rogue, and an Elven Sorcerer) and I don't have the Player's Handbook. I need to know what they get because they are now 3rd level. |
| shift24410-19-04, 10:02 PM | check out the SRD (here) (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) if what you need is not there, then it shouldn't be posted anyway. |
| Seeker9510-20-04, 02:22 PM | It is in the PHB. Not the SRD. And the core rules explicitly state that you need a PHB to play the game. This is pretty much a default given. How did you ever get characters made in the first place? Character generation is not in the SRD either. Neither is level advancement, so how do you know they have enough experience for level 3? |
| Zherog10-20-04, 03:56 PM | The info is absolutely in the SRD - I can go there right now and see what a fighter, rogue, sorcerer, etc gains at 3rd level. I can see how many skill points each class gets per level, and I can see their class skill list. You can find (if you look hard enough) that everybody gains a number of feats equal to one plus one per three hit dice. What you can't find is how much XP it takes to become third level. |
| J67610-20-04, 05:30 PM | Thanks for telling me what I'm looking for. Now to find the PHB... Oh, and by the way, I bought the Starter Package. It comes with 8 characters and 6 adventures, plus the dice set, Beginner's RB, AB, and a collection of monster, door, treasure, and NPC tokens. That's how I am playing right now. |
| Seeker9510-21-04, 08:54 AM | Welcome aboard! (Ignore my semi-cranky comments above, please.) Although you will find that most D&D players loathe the Starter Pack (it is the skeleton of a game we enjoy for its meat), I am starting to shift my own view of it. I guess for folks whose introduction to D&D is not through a friend who invites them to play, it is an easy way for the unitiated to become initiated. So, again... welcome aboard! |
| J67610-21-04, 09:17 PM | Thank you for welcoming me aboard, although the Starter's Pack isn't where I learned how to play. Last weekend, I attended a tutorial to D&D at a local Borders bookstore. After that, I was hooked on D&D, so I went back to Borders the next day to pick up the new Basic Game pack. But they were sold out, so I had to buy the Starter's Pack. Well, now I just need to come back here for help information or work up $20-30 for the PHB. |
| J67611-17-04, 10:09 PM | Now I'm having another little thing picking at me - I dunno how to generate characters! I have the available funds to buy the PHB, but first I want to see if I can find it on here first, as to save money I could use on extra adventure ideas. If someone can direct me with a link or just out-and-out tell me, I'd appreciate it. |
| Autopsibiofeeder11-17-04, 10:38 PM | All the information people are allowed to give is in the srd (check the link above). I strongly advice you to buy the players handbook as well as the monster manual and the dungeon masters guide. With these books you'll be fine for the first few years of gaming, it's easier when they are on your bookshelf, ready to get them. They feature pictures to show your players and will make you familiar with the lingo to get around on these boards. It may be a bitter pill to pay for them, but you'll thank yourself many times afterwards.... On top of that, reading these books and looking at the pictures will get you enough adventure ideas for many a campaign IMO... Auto |
| Autopsibiofeeder11-17-04, 10:39 PM | And welcome aboards off course... |
| J67611-18-04, 06:48 PM | Thanks... Looks like I'm headed to the bookstore then. I'll recheck the SRD for information, but I doubt I'll find what I need. |
