4.0 official release comment? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-02-06, 03:22 AM I heard from a friend that WotC released a press release saying 4th edition wouldn't be released until 2011. Is this true? Where is it? Should I trust this?

Part of the reason I ask is, somebody I think should know about it, made a comment to me at Gencon Indy. I'm not saying who because I don't want to get them in trouble, but (s)he works for Wizards and mentioned this when I cornered them for a conversation - which should be plenty of info. Anyways, (s)he said that (s)he thinks 4th Edition is going to be released very soon (within 3 years.) They admitted that they weren't part of development of it, but it is an office, word gets around.

So, I want to see this press release, if it exists. Thank you, Deager

11-02-06, 07:47 AM I don't know when its out, but as far as I am concerned unless it comes complete with a set of dice, DM, and a small fuzzie mammal, its not on my list. The whole 4.0, 4.5, etc is fine by a sales and marketing standpoint, and people are going to buy it regardless of what anyone says. The versions of D&D need to be fixed because people were tired of being in a rut. The restrictiveness of 1st, and 2nd drove me nuts thats why when 3.0 came out I was all for it.

I know as the new stuff comes out the old will get phased out; this idea is alright, but people what is the problem with 3.5? The D20, Wizards of the Coast, Green Ronin and all the others are turning more books out than we can buy at this point, so whats the problem?

To answer your question they never said ANYTHING except about a year ago they said that it wasn't being developed at that time. Please just wait for something OFFICIAL from WotC on their main site. Just forget about 4e and play what we have now.

A) It makes us think they won't release it April 1st 2011.
B) It silences all cries of "You didn't announce it early enough!"

I don't think it was in an article. I distinctly remember them sending someone to post a "My friend works for WotC, and he told me..." thread. You know, to see how people would react, while still making everybody believe they're keeping d20.

11-03-06, 01:43 AM Seariously, I was a hard core 2nd fan when 3 came out, and i swore up and down id never change, but i liked it when i played it. So im happy once again , ill shout i wont change over again and pay that much for books once more. The point being if they dont go above and beyond like they did with the change over to 3.0 and 3.5, then i wont. but im sure that in what ! years to come i bet they canmake another better system. Though i trully think i dont want to learn another one , just have endless expansions on 3 ^ ^

First off, your join date tells me that you are completely MAD!!!!!!!! Jan 2006? Please.... Like you know someone important that works or even has WOTC information.... If you did then you would not conceal this person identity... 3.0 was rumored and talked about openly and WOTC had advertising campaigns for it's realease.. Do you not think for one moment that if they wanted to release 4.0 they would not advertise? COME ON!!!!!!!!! 3.0 is barely in kindergarden and you want it to graduate? I think you started this thread to humor yourself... I notice you have not been replying to any posts...... HA HA Joke........ Funny? Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's get to the point..... These thread are for asking questions about 3.0, 3.5, 2.0, 1.0, and any concerns or mistakes you do not understand... Asking a 4.0 question only gives away the fact that you do not have an intelligent guestion to ask.... This is a good way to make yourself look like the south end of a north bound mule.....

If 4e does come out sometime in my gaming lifetime, there will have to be some damn good friggin fixes and reflavoring to get me to buy it.

Everything that got my goat about D&D before (counter-intuitive AC system, lack of a coherent skill system, ambiguous basic rules that changed from group to group) was all fixed in 3.0. I don't have a need to look anywhere else.
