| ZeronHitaro08-17-07, 01:46 PM | First of all. Yes I know there is a 4E forum, however there are no topics for video feedback yet and you cannot create new ones there. ...so let's see... Lack of female gamers- check. Horrible narration and horrible portrayal of D&D gamers- check. Idiots who don't know how to use the freaking index to find grapple rules within 20 seconds- check. Okay...I thought you wanted us to buy 4th Edition, not deny having anything to do with your company due to pathetic PR strategies. |
| Nobby_Nobbs08-17-07, 02:12 PM | Honestly, except for the humorously exaggerated fashion, that video rather accurate to my experience playing RPGs. I really don't think the lack women was intentional. It was just supposed to be a humorous little video. I'm sure it wont be the only ad for 4e that they'll ever publish. |

I really don't think the lack women was intentional. It was just supposed to be a humorous little video. I'm sure it wont be the only ad for 4e that they'll ever publish. In all fairness it probably wasn't intentional. And in my group of 7 I have 3 who fit the gamer stereotypes with...about 90% accuracy. However for something that's supposed to encourage people to support 4E while using storyboard tactics akin to a parody or roast of D&D doesn't do much to seed any faith I might have in the product. |
| vaerdhdragonkin08-17-07, 02:20 PM | Oh, come on! Lighten up folks. I laughed my arse off. |
| Sarev08-17-07, 02:29 PM | I was very amused.... I think the grappling spoof was based on how time consuming and confusing some find the grappling rules to be... |
| Kensan_Oni08-17-07, 02:49 PM | I personally wasn't amused by the presentation, but I've seen groups this incompetent in how they run games, so I won't see it as inaccurate... but the punchline at the end really is counterproductive to their selling point. They show us all these bad things that they claim were problems... and then promise us that we'll get them again, cause it will remain the same! Yeah... I want to see the ideas they threw out, there had to have been one better then this... |
| Seeker9508-17-07, 02:54 PM | Saw it. Loved it. Although the accent kept switching from French to Romanian to American-pretending-to-be-French-or-Romanian. GamerZero did a great job. But I do wish Mel had been included in the video. |
| Gavinfoxx08-17-07, 03:18 PM | I thought the video was a funny, if a bit over-the-top parody. |
| Meems08-17-07, 03:26 PM | I'm a girl, and didn't find the lack of female gamers at all irritating. I found the ad funny, in general. I liked how D&D can laugh at itself. |
| MHolland08-17-07, 03:31 PM | Keep in mind this video was not meant as an online advertisement to get people into the game. It is the video used at the presentation last night. So the audience was already D&D gamers so we were poking fun at ourselves. When they were looking for grapple you should have heard the people around me yelling out page numbers. I read your comments and I just thought a little perspective on the video might have affected your mindset. |
| DCAnderson08-17-07, 03:37 PM | I think their presentation of Grapple Rules was pretty much exactly how it went down the first time my group tried to grapple something. Now we can do it no problem, but the first time it was pretty confusing. |
| _Jayne_Cobb_08-17-07, 03:42 PM | Lack of female gamers- check. Horrible narration and horrible portrayal of D&D gamers- check. Idiots who don't know how to use the freaking index to find grapple rules within 20 seconds- check. Boards members who take things way too seriously. Check. |
| wrecan08-17-07, 04:38 PM | For goodness sakes, it was the same four actors playing the gaming group "through the years". That's why there weren't any women. :rolleyes |
| Archus Forix08-17-07, 04:52 PM | yea, I mean, they are WOTC staffers, and that high up, I don't think that as there aren't any female WOTCs that high up (to my reckoning) that it was natural conclusion to be all guys: they are the WOTC staff.... I liked it, for one, and I saw the presentation as well through GenCon (wherever the page was) and I have to say, 4E looks very interesting and promising |
| Naderion08-17-07, 04:56 PM | English is not my native language, so let me think of the right word for a moment... I think it's "embarassing", but for the guys who made it. |
| Sim_antix08-17-07, 05:00 PM | yea, I mean, they are WOTC staffers, and that high up, I don't think that as there aren't any female WOTCs that high up (to my reckoning) that it was natural conclusion to be all guys: they are the WOTC staff.... | Darkarcher73608-17-07, 05:05 PM | I loved it! Laughing my head off between every animated to live action scene was hilarious. |
| gmhack08-17-07, 05:07 PM | This was just painful. It reminds me of some of the film projects that students from my college put into the local film festivals... you know the ones they did before dropping out or switching to buisness majors. I was actually embarrassed to watch it, and although I cant exactly say why I feel a bit insulted. |
| Elessar08-17-07, 05:19 PM | Hey guys, Zee gaime weal remayne zee saime! |
| vaerdhdragonkin08-17-07, 05:22 PM | :heehee   |
| Naderion08-17-07, 05:25 PM | I was actually embarrassed to watch it, and although I cant exactly say why I feel a bit insulted. This says it really accurate. |
| Kensan_Oni08-17-07, 05:26 PM | For goodness sakes, it was the same four actors playing the gaming group "through the years". That's why there weren't any women. :rolleyes After 30+ years and still not married? oh yeah.. we're not reinforcing sterotypes here. :rolleyes :) |
| gmhack08-17-07, 05:31 PM | This says it really accurate. actually I would say that the opposite was true. With the exception of the D&D logos on stuff I didnt see anything that was reminicent of my own gaming experience. |
| wrecan08-17-07, 06:12 PM | After 30+ years and still not married? oh yeah.. we're not reinforcing sterotypes here. :rolleyes :) It wasn't the guys at age 15 to 45. It was the same guys at age 25 in 1977, at age 25 in 1987 at age 25 in 1997 and today. Sheesh. That was the whole concept of the film. And it was goofy fun meant for insiders. Don't expect to see D&D advertising on tv. Really, people need to lighten up. A lot. |
| BaltotheJunkie08-17-07, 06:35 PM | English is not my native language, so let me think of the right word for a moment... I think it's "embarassing", but for the guys who made it."Peinlich". Yep. My girlfriend is French- she asked why the guy was talking so strangely... |
| Mistress_Alexis08-17-07, 06:46 PM | For goodness sakes, it was the same four actors playing the gaming group "through the years". That's why there weren't any women. :rolleyes LOL I just had a thought, what if in the 2003 one, one of them was starting to transition and in the 2008 one they replace them with a actress LOL |
| Mechanurgist08-17-07, 06:52 PM | That video was more fun to make than to watch, I'm sure. Please do not allow anyone who isn't a gamer to see this. |
| Oakes08-17-07, 07:04 PM | My personal reaction was "I hope those strippers on-stage don't expect me to put bills in their pants." Then I realized my mistake, and made a mental apology to strippers everywhere for sullying their good names. Okay, that was a joke. ;) My reaction is nothing but excitement and anticipation. I guess it's hard to feel pessimistic when your conception is that something is solid, even if it certainly looks more at-home on a Youtube page than it should be. |
