But I am a little concerned. At this time in 04 they had a product list clear up to 05, and as I sit here I notice that there's nothing after aug. I love 3.5 and I'm not ready for 4e. If anybody knows anything for sure, put it out there. p.s. I am not that other guy
WizO_Cat 05-06-05, 11:16 PM	Ok, I'll answer this being as much of an outsider than everyone else. (Keep in mind that being a WizO is just about moderating boards - it's not like we're a part of any long term strategy meetings for product launches) At any rate, I feel very certain that there will be no release by this GenCon because prior releases had a six to eight month advertising blitz prior to launch. For example, for revision 3.5, they had Dragon articles about the editions in the February and March editions of the magazine. Since it is already May, there's not enough time to begin the advertising. I'll move this thread over to the General board since that is where many of the 4th edition threads are going these days.
Flushmaster 05-07-05, 12:09 AM	I highly doubt there will be a 4th edition any time soon. The 3.5 revision is still quite new and new products are being released for it even still. As much as some people like to think that all companies are continuously plotting new ways to take everybody's money (the same people that frequently make the s->$ substitution in company names), it just doesn't make sense. Wizards has a good thing going with 3.5, which is quite successful and selling plenty of product; even the ones who rant that "corporations are evil and greedy" have to agree that Wizards can still easily profit from 3.5 for another year or two, likely longer. How long did 2nd edition last? Third should last even longer, mainly because it was just revised; they could have just brought out 4E then if they weren't still mostly satisfied with 3rd. Besides, why is a 4th edition needed? A new edition means new core rules. What's wrong with the ones we have now? Don't even say "what's wrong with 2E; nobody in their right mind can say that THAC0 was not an overly complex mechanic. The current system, besides being the flagship for the D20 system (which spans a vast number of distinctive games that all make more money and continue to do so), is really quite simple and streamlined. Any new product has to have a good selling point or nobody will buy it. If nobody buys it, then the company loses a buttload of money for having produced it. No 4E anytime soon.

Besides, as I've said before on a couple of the other 4E boards, I don't care if they go to 4E. That's their loss. Their loss because my money will be going elsewhere. There's enough 3rd party press material out there, I'll still be going broke every month. :P

I really can't answer that for you, because there is no real reason to pay anything. EDIT: What I meant to say was is that the system is freely available. So, therefore you are choosing to pay WotC when you don't really have to in order to enjoy the game.
weasel fierce 05-07-05, 01:57 AM	I dont particularly want to. But if D&D is purely what you posted above, then WOTC has the poorest editors ever, if the books still come out to 300 pages each. Heck, you'd think with that many pages describing such a blindingly simple rule, you would get an option to use your D10's ;)
Flushmaster 05-07-05, 01:58 AM	Which mod to use in which situation, what the DC is, and what the results are. Considering all the things a character can do in a D&D game (just about everything), 300 pages is actually fairly brief.
Telperion 05-07-05, 02:05 AM	Personally I don't really care for Forgotten Realms or Eberron. With lots of 3rd party alternatives available I prefer to give my money to those who, IMO, deserve it. SRD 3.5 serves my needs quite nicely, so I have never really felt the need to give WotC 90 €. And then there's the whole "Alternative PHBs" thing, but that's another topic.

For the most part I'm with you, Forgotten Realms is the better of the two but I can think of about three third party campaign settings off the top of my head that I perfer. P.S. I would like to see Dark Sun come back
