Hi

I know -- its probably been done to death. But what i want is a running list ("one liners" of sorts) of things people would like to see in a 4th Ed (you can even keep things from 1st, 2nd or 3rd ed! )

What is comes down to is a "tweaking" of the current system and general direction you'd like to see the product line take... In general i think 3.0 is great and 3.5 is better in many area's. For me, the following list would make the game better.

Here goes:

- Completely different spells lists for good/evil casters (be it for cleric or wizards)

- DR for Armour

- HPs based on race/size of creature. HPs due to level/class increases should be minimal.

- More Feats to AVOID getting in hit in combat (relates to item just above to help fighter-types survive combat). Unearthed Arcana Vitality points work well.

- (Major) clerical powers (raise dead, etc) only works on persons of the same faith.

- Raising dead requires a sacrifice (for Good: it may be HPs or ability scores, or XP from ANOTHER living character. For Evil: it may be something living).

- Creating magic items GIVES XPs (since its research), not takes them away (however, one should have to give up HPs or an ability point upon creation).

- Clerics access to spells based on god chosen (ie: if god of Healing picked, then NO access to Death spells, etc -- similar to a 'forced' Wizard specialization).

- Create a critical hit system that can make a character lose an eye, or chop off a hand (similar to old Warhammer Fantasy system).

- XP no longer (strongly) based on combat. The modules themselves are to provide bulk XP values when certain points of the module are reached with degrees of success factored in (avoids meat-grinder dungeon crawls just to gain levels).

- Give a title for each level of a character class (a throwback from 1st ed ex: 1st level cleric: acolyte, 2nd level: canon, etc).

- All (powerful) magic items to have a good and bad side or Intelligence/Ego -- makes using them MUCH more fun and dangerous. Similar to LoTR...

- Less books with PrCs, etc and more books with Rules clarifications/refinements (eg: supplie rules on lack of sleep, running guerrilla-style combat, how many pitons rip out of a wall when a character falls, etc).

Thanks
Phist

You could really do all those things with a little modification to 3.5. And some of what you said is covered in Unearthed Arcana.

Yeah, there is a HUGE thread in Future Releases on this...

What I want most in 4th edition:

A core rule that forbids threads on the Internet discussing 5th edition until its release date is announced.

Yes, I would recommend that you visit the thread by clicking >>HERE<< (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65694). Thus, since there is already a thread on the subject where I would actually move this thread, I'll close this one at this time.
