| zephyrmage4208-22-07, 10:12 AM | I can’t believe how WOTC has totally screwed me over and their rules stifle RP so much. I mean, its like they wanted to make rules for tactical combat but leave RP totally up to our imaginations! In fact, I can remember playing in a Covenant of Light mod a few weeks ago where I made a bard. I even optimized him to be a powerful combat buffer for the 6 man group. I had to use my imagination when I played him like a televangelist shouting “Praise the Flame!” and using his message spells to give words of encouragement to party members. I even got some players to have fun with it to, shouting some Praise the Flames back at me. The rules did not tell me I could do this, or even give me specific outlines on how to do it! I kept trying to find my +2 to roleplaying flute but had no luck. I can’t believe how much this has turned into a video game. I cannot stress how this makes me dread the arrival of 4th edition. Streamlining combat? Sounds like hippie crap to me. Why would I want combat to quicker? So I could spend time imagining combat or interacting with my party members or NPCs? Not likely. I need specific roleplay abilities, goals, and rewards if they want that. Now they want to give me the option to play online with my friends that don’t live around me anymore. Again, hippie crap. They probably want us all to burn money on an altar to WOTC just to log on. And whats with the optional part? Its like they expect that some people might not want to use it. Everyone knows that if wizards wants your money you have to give it to them or they come to your house with large men and baseball bats. Same thing with the optional web enhancements for books. Really, wizards should just print updates and errata and send them to my house at no charge. It would be better for the hobby, and I wouldn’t have to use that new-fangled machine. There’s even more that they are doing to change my beloved game in ways that I think are evil, but even thinking about them makes me ill. Personally, I am shocked (SHOCKED) to learn that there is anyone out there that is at all excited about these changes. It’s like wizards just wants to make money. I think the game should be produced with fairy dust instead. I think I’ll go back to 1e where the men where men, the elves were elves, and the grass was always greener. |
| Rogue Shadows08-22-07, 10:16 AM | ... At least, I'm assuming this is a joke. It reads like a joke. |
| Grogmir08-22-07, 10:29 AM | Fail to see what any of that Rant has to do with Hippies though? |
| Escef08-22-07, 10:38 AM | Fail to see what any of that Rant has to do with Hippies though? Maybe? |
| RadicalTaoist08-22-07, 11:09 AM | It's a joke, and a well done one. I applaud you, zephyrmage, and grant you the LOL of the Moment position in my sig. |
| jaelis08-22-07, 11:32 AM | I suppose if they made the books really heavy and you dropped them on your shoe, 4th Ed could crush your sole, too. Or maybe if you're eating fish. |
| bonethug010808-22-07, 11:55 AM | Good topic. :) |
| Breetai08-22-07, 12:26 PM | Couldn't Agree more. The whole fighting against the alignment concept is a great thermometer on how soo many want RPing out of the way of thier combat. |

Actually, there are some D&D junkies that routinely buy every -_- WotC publishes.EVERY MONTH.THEY EVEN USE THEIR CREDIT CARDS. |

| Seeker9508-22-07, 12:56 PM | It took me two full reads to realize your entire post is sarcastic. I suspect this has a lot to do with the degree to which it so closely parallels the things folks have said in far too many other threads! |
| Jefuri no Oni08-22-07, 01:26 PM | I for one am looking forward to D&D being more like a video game. Every time I kill another PC I always yell "OMG I PWANED a NOOB!":D So making D&D more like a video game is the next logical step. |
| fatal error08-22-07, 01:49 PM |   The fact that he is calling people hippies is to emphasize the fact that he is an unreasonable walking anachronism. Obviously "hippie" is not the term a modern person would apply to the features he is talking about, but he is so entrenched in old school ideas that what other people would call "video gamy" he calls "hippie junk." |

I am SO doing this next time I kill someone in game...PC or monster or NPC alike. |

Exactly why it is a good thread.:) People need to relax a little.:P |
| Optimator08-22-07, 07:38 PM | This post made me feel good. That is all. |
| efraker08-22-07, 08:35 PM | Great success! |

That's where the line is drawn. There's not much to say on this thread that hasn't already been said. It's a thing of beauty. |
| VulcanStormwrath08-22-07, 08:46 PM | That is the funniest thing I've read today. |
| baby_kamikaize_kobold08-22-07, 08:56 PM | Just so long as you don't hump your recent kill. That's where the line is drawn. There's a crouch command in D&D now? awsome I am so going to do that to my DM next time I kill an enemy in full-plate. |
| HarlequinHelsing08-22-07, 09:05 PM | Sarcastic, subtle, hilarious, genius. Zephyrmage, I salute you. |
| zephyrmage4208-22-07, 09:55 PM | Wow, thanks guys. I'm glad you enjoy it, especially some of the bigger forum names. I'm a big lurker, but sometimes I feel the need to post! |
| Optimator08-22-07, 10:27 PM | This thread is what happens when you roll a natural 20 on one's Sarcasm/Profession(Troll)/Craft(Thread) skills. |
| Waterhammer08-23-07, 12:10 AM | Never trust a hippie. It's the crime of the century. Who shot little Bambi? It's a quote from somewhere. May not be exactly exact. |
