Hey there everyone. Just looking for a bit of feedback here on what you think. I've been playing SAGA edition Star Wars since it came out. Now, what I was thinking is, I think that 4th edition D&D is going to be more or less the same thing. I personally am hoping so. Any of you out there who have played D&D 3.5 and SAGA I am thinking will understand why. Anyhow, like I said, just looking for some feedback here and what you think. Thanks

Ransolot,

I'm an avid SWSE player myself! I think this thread is better to be posted on one of the 4th edition forums... but since I can't move threads... ;)

There's been a lot of talk on the 4thEd. forums about SWSE = 4thEd. There's a lot of mechanics I really hope are trasnfered - but some changes will have to be made to make the game run successfully. The way armor is handled would have to change completely (or you'd have 20th level fighters with no reason to wear that spiffy +5 full plate... ;) ). Magic is also the big wild card. An encounter-based magic system (as the force is in SWSE), I think would be highly overpowered, or underpowered (depending on the situation...lol). Saves also go away, as defenses are all static - so a mechanic would have to be developed for the caster to roll a d20 and add the modifer that was originally added to 10 to get their DC in the old system.

Still - I think SWSE is one of the cleanest d20 systems I've played in a while. It has some holes - to be true - but it's nice. And clean. The skill system and defense system will translate well to D&D - as will talent trees (I hope). Heck, a few years back, my gaming group wrote up some house rules to use d20 Modern classes in D&D (where we first saw talent trees introduced) - and it was fun. Round mechanics and actions that make more sense - less iterative attack explosions... all good things to me.

SWSE has some huge fans - and some huge detractors. It's a common concensus that SWSE was an "excuse" to test some of the mechanics WotC wanted for 4th Ed. I for one, am anxious to see what WotC has in store for 4th Ed.

4e development project have been going on since 2005. Technically, SECR designers borrowed material from the project.

4e designers are now looking to see if SECR is getting good or bad feedback, even though the 4e draft have already been completed and submitted for editing and playtesting.

Does 4th Edition = SAGA Edition?
No.

But, elements of SAGA Edition will be in 4e.
Elements of 4e were tested in SAGA Edition.

In my opinion,

I have a mantra, and will repeat it here...

Just because it is in Saga doesn't make it cannon in 4th ed.

So far, we know that defenses are in, but will be in addition to AC. Skills will be combined and simplified somehow, but won't use the over simplified "trained" skills that is in Saga. Skill trees are going to be used in some way, and each class has a defined role (Striker-Leader-Defender-Healer).

We also know that the Races will have some effect on the character as they level up.

Saga is only a test project, like all the Star Wars D20 editions. A new Edition will prolly be released a few months after 4th ed comes out.

I don't think 4e might have cannons, but they might have bombards.

You mean canon.
