I can already see, after reading through what I have to say, I will be mocked for my loose DMing and will be ordered to halt running games.

This is the first campagin that I have ever ran and the first time any of us have played D&D with the 'propper' rules. Although, we are all still new and we allow a lot of minor rules to pass us by because we are more focused on playing without a lot of interruptions, unless it is necessary.

Anyway, to get to the point, this is what happened:

The party gets back to the Elven Fighters home town after the king banished him for having 'relations' with the his daughter years and years ago. The Elven Fighter was left on the doorstep of this elven village when he was a baby and since he was thought of as a 'savage' elf the civilized elves did not respect him. That is why he was banished for hooking up with the kings daughter.

Anyway, they go back to the town and they want to get into the kings throne room, but there are obviously guards outside of the palace. The parties sorcerer with insane charisma; bluffs the guards, telling them that the party is an envoy for the king (he is actually a very charismatic player and comes up with really exciting bluff stories so I usually give him a 1 or 2 bonus on bluff checks, depending on what he says.) The guards let the party in and as the party is passing by some guards in the kings hall the Elven Fighter calls them ":censored:" and it requires another bluff check to make the guards not kill them, saying they are very important to the king.

They finally get into the throne room of the king and the king is outraged to see the elven fighter. The king gets all upset and starts shouting profanities at them. The Sorcerer begins reading the mind of the king after three rounds and after the king fails the save and it tells the group that the daughter of the king is living with the Elven Fighters foster brother. The Barbarian was given spider climb because of a magic item so he starts climbing all over the kings walls and shoots warning shots at the king with a crossbow. The Sorcerer uses a spell to make himself look like the king and laugh in his face. The party cleric starts banging his shield and mace together while doing a jig in the middle of the room and the elven fighter wastes a magic item that allows him to levitate once for five minutes and he floats in front of the king saying "I'm magical!"

Many of you would probably say this is upsetting for a DM to deal with, but I thought it was hilarious and let it all go. In fact, I rolled to see if the king would have a heart attack from the complete disregard of his status and shock that people would and could actually do this.

I don't know how much all of you want to read, but I am willing to post whatelse they did if there is anyone who would like to read it AND THEY DID DO MORE AFTERWARDS, trust me.

The thing is, it made all of us laugh and have a really good time with it, nobody was mad because it was dumb or because we were being loose with rules. The way I figure it, if we are all having fun, we are playing it right.

What you have is something very special.

There is nothing wrong with your style of DMing, simply ingore any uneducated biggots who tell you other wise. If your group is ok with how you DM, which they are I take it, then you are doing perfectly fine. It is nice to hear about friends that play just for fun. Not to have the most powerful character or argue about why didn't they get a particular weapon when their team mate did. Just keep this party together and play in whatever way you all feel that works and just have fun. That's the key, having fun.

So anyone who disagrees with your position on an issue is an uneducated biggot (sic). Interesting. So how long have you had this delusion that you are always right?

What was meant is that there is no real wrong way to DM if everyone is having fun. Glad to know that you like to take things out of context. (Did it strike a little too close to home?)

No closer than anyone who is being so needlessly rude. Why?

IMO there is no "wrong" way to play as long as everyone has fun, but calling anyone who holds a contrary poition to that an "uneducated biggot(sic)" is both obnoxious and arrogant.

Hey now, no need to get this good thread locked due to some unnessasary arguement. :nonono:

Back to the topic.

I quite enjoy your DM style. It sounds awesome, however, if it's like this all the time I would get bored, while having fun is the point of the game, I also enjoy serious roleplaying and dramatic moments a whole lot more.

So it's perfectly okay what your doing.

Okay... :twitch: *ignoring those last couple of posts there*

Anyways, I don't think there is anything wrong with your style either. Sometimes, I think, you've just "gotta have fun." That's really the whole point, isn't it? Besides, I've done similar things, in fact, I've probably done far "worse". (We're talking about stuff like Gigantic Death Babies, etc.) And we all laugh and have a good time. So I say: Good job.

Yeah, we play seriously every now and then. I occasionally try and scare them by asking them "Are you sure you want to open the door" and I love my contact poison so...yeah...

I try and add a lot of story to my games though, but I make sure the story is hatched by both my players and myself. I also try and make trap and riddle based adventures as well as combat oriented adventures and story oriented adventures. The problem I have with that is that the trap and riddle oriented adventures are hard to create and set up. I take adventure writing seriously because that is the foundation of the groups fun (in seeing our collective creation come to life) so I try and avoid cheesey set ups at all costs. Plus I'm new at RPG's and a lazy university student, so extra reading is kinda lame...

I've been lurking on these message boards for a couple weeks now and I'd like to say that these have helped me more than the three core books have. I'm basically trying to say "Thanks" to all of you for making D&D hella interesting to me.

D&D core books say the point of the game is to have fun. So I agree that if you think any other way to take the game then you're stupid.

And i say that from teh bottim of my hert.

it sounds fun, very fun
sometimes people get so far into the game they forget one thing it's a game and the reason your playing it is to have fun.
keep up the great work
warning shots, from a wall climbing barbarian, a floating elf(is he related to hte flying nun), a shape changing man, and a stupid dance cleric lol good times

I would have had the king's guards come into the room, beat down the PCs, arrest them and likely have them executed. Why would the king let these people just get away with such behavior?

That reminds me of the last campaign I dm'ed. The group had just left the lady Alustrie's palace (Yep the cheeky Rouge suduced her) and they went to a shop at night. The wizard sneaks into the rafters and waits. The guys position themselves to rob the Weapons place and the half-Drow acts crazy screaming his name. (his name is Ragnorake, which is the norse apocolypse I pretty sure it is anyway) and the Wizard in the ceiling starts launching fireballs while the rest of the party ransacks the store.

Yep we have some good times. Sounds like our two parties are pretty similar.

Your campaign sound pretty wacky. It's not my flavor, but what the hey? As long as you're having fun. There seems to be at least one player in your group that isn't quite 'feeling the love', and you should probably address the sitch. Read this...

Could be one of the following kings:

Burger King
Larry King
King Kong (throw him a big banana)

Seriously though, in my group we'd all be adorning very pointy spikes.

I just saw that other thread as well... all we can do now is sit back and enjoy the show.

Anyone with munchies with him/her?

I let them get away with it because they were having fun doing it and I was having fun watching them do it. After it was over though they questioned themselves, asking if that was really how they wanted to play that, but by then it was over. Personally, I like letting them get away with stuff like that because it makes the game fun for me and EVERYONE in the group. I also enjoy it when they have their comittee meetings, deciding how to effectively approach a challenge and solve a puzzle, but the adventure had already gone on for hours upon hours and it was very combat oriented so they just wanted to bring it down a notch and have some fun with it.

Eventually they killed the king and ripped off his crown, then they went back to the village to find the foster brother of the elf fighter. Once they found him they took him in the village square and let the elf fighter take him on one on one (after beefing him up with spells from the cleric and the sorcerer). The Elf knocked him out with one punch and then they went back to the foster brothers house and the elf had his way with the former king's, willing daughter (who has now joined the party).

"It sounds very fun"? According to your post on another thread you are in this game. You should know if it's fun or not.

Wha?

I really don't know what the hell is wrong with people? I've had 2 people tell me to "chill" on the boards this week, yet never once have I been upset.

I am well aware that tone-of-voice and such doesn't translate well, but I assumed that putting "When in doubt always assume a ;) is implicit in all my posts" in my sig would be sufficent to get the message across. Unfortunately that is apparently still too subtle.

Oh well, there's only so much you can spell it out for people.

[QUOTE=Wildonion](his name is Ragnorake, which is the norse apocolypse I pretty sure it is anyway) QUOTE]

I'm not sure why, but I get unnesisarly PO'ed when people confuse anything about ragnarok, so excuse my dimenor.

Ragnarok was began after a 3 year winter. It itself began with an additional winter which wiped out a lot of people. Then all the gods got to gether and started killing each other.

Most died, but two young ones lived. They gathered the few humans that still lived and recreated the universe.

I used the psudonym NeoRagnarock for a while and even had a sweet story for it. Guess that's why I'm protective over ragnarok.

*Note the spelling of ragnarok, ragnarake, and neoragnarock. Norse mythology goes with "rok"*

But then you don't see a person's sig all the way down on a page after he's already posted on that page. So, after your first post, we tend to lose that ;) in your sig.

Relax man.... :D Things get started over the silliest things. Especially when people are trying to interpret meaning behind plain text.

Again: :D :D :D
