i am thinking of putting a combo system in my game.the only problem is i need some ideas for the combos. how my system works is when you do some thing sucessful you get 1 point you can use them at anytime but the more you get the better it is.example a melee combo 1 add 1d6 to dmg 2 add 1d10 3 add 2d8 so on or something like that.

Since playing Chrono Trigger I've always considered the possibility of creating a series of abilities that allowed two players to hold initiative or ready and action to perform some kind of maneuver at the same time with a greater result or an additional effect added.
Basically, rather than just do normal damage, their simultaneous attack also adds something like dazed, or perhaps bonus damage as with a rend attack. Since DMG2 came out I suppose making into a Teamwork Benefit would be an ideal start.

Judging from the short description for Player's Handbook 2, the Teamwork system will be expanded from what was in the DMG2.

I like what the others have offered in reply, but what do you mean by "combo system"? Is the 1, 2, and 3 coming from something like "bonus points" you can use whenever you want? Like "Karma" in the old Marvel Superheroes RPG from TSR?

My DM uses the same system from Final Fantasy Tactics, you get "points" for kills or other things that would cause a "rush of hormones"(as he calls it, I always felt it sounded...odd  )

If two players have any points and are both near enough to attack a creature the other character can choose to basically loose his attack to combine his points with the other player to make one big bonus.

I hope that wasn't confusing.

Iron Heroes is a good place to start if you want more spectacular combat opportunities. With a few tweaks it works well for D&D 3.5. ;)
