The ninja class in Complete Adventurer was right there in an "Oriental" issue. Hell, right in the DMG there's the Duelist prestige class, which was in Dragon shortly after 3.0 came out. Dragon was a great way to accumulate material, help beginning game designers develop, and get fan feedback on this stuff before it goes into a $40 book where expectations would be a lot higher. Even if Dragon is not that profitable as WotC would like, isn't it worth it just to have material for future game releases? Or how about getting new game writers? I mean Ed Greenwood started out writing articles in Dragon way back in the day, and that turned into an entire setting and line of products. Isn't keeping the magazine around like investing in your future? |

Or how about getting new game writers? The exact same material accumulation will be possible with an electronic publishing format. We need to wait and see what replaces Dragon/Dungeon. If it isa good, we subscribe and enjoy. If it is bad, we protest, with letters and with the absence of our dollars. |

| smeelbo04-22-07, 08:03 PM | I suspect that all of the things Dragon did, will be doable online. Hardly. Besides being the buyer for a small chain of game stores, I also work the sales floor. Dungeon magazine is one of my best sellers, especially to beginning dungeon masters. Indeed, our stores are a combination of game and comic store, and Dungeon magazine is the only periodical in the entire store that I can easily sell issues that are months old. Even when Dungeon stops publishing, I will still be selling physical copies of the magazine. A web publications does nothing for me. Even worse, the absence of good, inexpensive adventure material will make Dungeons and Dragons that much less profitable a sale. Smeelbo |

While an online/offline medium may not work for you it could work well for many others. Hurts your sales, sadly, but I suspect WoTC will benefit from this. |

And while the gaming store is not likely to be able to sell any of the online material, I'll bet the online subscription content will also be "sellable" months after it comes out. |
| Prince_of_Murder_Kinghall04-23-07, 12:58 AM | So whats stoping them from doing the same thing with their books? Besides I would rather have the book then have to by a lap top or a printer. |

Theres a big difference between one adventure per month for 20 bucks, and 3 or 4 for the price of Dungeon. Even if pathfinder is better quality (I actually think it will be) you lose out on variety. I stink at making maps, so sometimes I'd just use that out of a dungeon. The variety was really important to me. |
| Smischmal04-23-07, 11:41 AM | Since when are they getting rid of Dragon and Dungeon? This is the first I've heard. |
| Kadasbrass04-23-07, 11:52 AM | Since when are they getting rid of Dragon and Dungeon? This is the first I've heard. You most have been out of the loop, the boards have been flooded this past weekend with threads on it. Thought most seem to be in future release... |
