A Couple of Questions [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-17-06, 08:43 PM Hey guys, I just had a couple of questions reguarding rules and I wanted to see if anyone could clarify.

1. When a rogue sneak attacks, does each one of his or her attacks count as sneak attack or just the first? Or do they only get the one attack with the sneak attack damage added?

2. If you wear a pair of gauntlets you are considered unarmed. Does this mean that a monk wearing gauntlets still gets his or her speacial unarmed strike damage? If so, can the guantlets be magically enchanted to add damage to a monk's attack?

05-17-06, 09:32 PM The sneak attack damage applies any and all times the rogue attacks an opponent that is denied their Dexterity bonus. So if the rogue has multiple attacks during a round while their opponent is denied thier dexterity bonus, then each successful attack does the additional damage.
A monk loses their special abilities if they wear armor. I would rule it would also apply to gauntlets because they would hamper the monks ability to move unfettered.

However, the guantlets that I am refering to are the one's that allow a character to do leathal unarmed damage, they do nothing in the way of granting AC. There are two types of guantles like this, regulare gauntles (that count as being unarmed) and spiked gauntlets (that count as being armed). I'm just wondering if it would do the monk's unarmed damage, or the gauntlet's (1d4, which is the standard non-monk unarmed damage.)

05-17-06, 09:40 PM I just stated how I would rule on the gauntlets.

The reason I ruled that gauntlets would preclude the monk's special abilities, is because gauntlets are part of the armor category and armors are explicitly listed as prohibited.

You are always free to rule on it however you wish. :D

05-17-06, 10:37 PM Ah, ok. It's just that the gauntlets were listed in the weapons section, I thought that's what they were considered. I can, however, see where guantlets would be considered armor as well.
