SRD: Spells, spell-like abilities, and energy attacks (even nonmagical fire) ignore damage reduction. So I just want to see what happens in these situtations: Say we have a creature with DR 5/- 1. Magic Missle : 1d4+1 imagine we roll a 4 for 5 damage... 2. Longsword +1 : 1d8 + 1... say we roll an 4 for 5 damage total, does the DR negate the entire attack? Does the creature take 1 damage from the "magic" +1 damage? 3. Flaming Burst Longsword : 1d8<+1 from magic> + 1d6<fire> + <fire>burst on crit, Does the DR only negate the damage from the normal longsword 1d8? what about the "Flaming" or the posisble "Burst" on a critical? This is the way I'm running DR: 1. [SPELL] bypasses DR and creature takes 5 damage. 2. From the example above all 5 damage is covered by DR, creature takes no damage. 3. DR only helps from the physical strike from the 1d8+1, since the magic effect is [FIRE] it bypasses DR |
