| Tomkin06-05-07, 05:30 PM | At the end of this year, several of my friends will be moving away do various different places, but we still want to be able to play D&D together. Is there any program (preferably compatible with both Windows and Macs) via which we can play D&D over the internet? Preferably such a program would feature chat (rather than play-by-post on boards) and maybe, if I'm lucky, some way to draw maps without having to pre-load them. Although really, I'll settle for almost anything. Thanks in advance for the help! - Tomkin |
| FaithlessOfLux06-05-07, 05:31 PM | Open RPG, google it. It is a fairly well known program that covers all your requirements and more. |
| calvinNhobbes06-05-07, 06:49 PM | I use Fantasy Grounds II. It costs money, but it has so many awesome features! |
| geekling06-05-07, 07:17 PM | http://iconvention.org/vgtcomp.php Gives you a little handy comparison chart between most of the major VGT (virtual game table) applications out there right now. But if you need multi platform, openRPG is really your best option. (Well I'd say even if you're all M$ slaves, openRPG would be the best option - but I'm biased. Because it is the VGT I use.) |
| Tomkin06-05-07, 07:19 PM | Thanks for the replies guys, OpenRPG is exactly what I was looking for. Fantasy Grounds looks good too but I'm not willing to spend the money. Thanks anyway! - Tomkin |

| heruca06-05-07, 11:14 PM | Hmm, I guess I found this thread too late, since you seem to have settled on OpenRPG already. But I was going to suggest you take a look at Battlegrounds. The link is in my sig. http://www.battlegroundsgames.com/images/Animated-Promo-Pics.gif |

Because it is the VGT I use.) That is not really a true statement many of the tools are multiplatform. Map Tool from RPTool.net (http://rptools.net/doku.php) is good too, and it is free as well and great developer support. |
| nijineko06-08-07, 02:04 PM | hiya heruca! i also recommend battlegrounds! very nice set up! may i in addition suggest that you check out crystalball lite (http://homepage.mac.com/crystalballmac/), and the upcoming crystalball4 when it is released. crystalball lite has the most advanced die rolling engine of any i've seen on either pc side or mac side. and i've looked at most of them. easy to use (read the faq, first!) and seriously flexible! |
| Aeolius06-09-07, 08:25 AM | Now, if only one of the Mac-compatible solutions also supported movement in three dimensions. How am I supposed to run my undersea game with one of these apps, then? ;) |
| heruca06-09-07, 11:38 AM | You could use text labels to indicate each unit's depth. |
