Apparently it is played entirely online (so THAT'S why they're cancelling DRAGON and DUNGEON!) with VR headsets sort of like those in the anime .hack// since the entire dream was from my character's perspective in a clearly computer-generated world: We were constantly in a vast catacomb filled with a golden-red glow. There were four of us; I was the Wizard of the group and was with a burly sword-wielding male Fighter and two nondescript other party members. As we journeyed, tutorials would occasionally pop up telling us things such as how to unlock a treasure chest and how the contents of treasure were randomly determined using various tables. Early combats were a blur of goblinoid-slaying, with the Fighter quickly dispatching most opponents. We must have leveled up very swiftly, reaching mid-level, as soon I was able to cast Fireball and it packed quite a wallop. This was about when we encountered the mini-boss: a rather cool-looking Chimera (further indication that we were at least mid-level by now). It looked something like the one from the War Drums expansion of D&D Miniatures crossed with the illustration from the Monster Manual except that the goat's head had fire coming from its nostrils like a Nightmare and the dragon parts were metallic blue (the dragon head had a frill of long blue spikes and looked cooler than the current Blue Dragon look in my opinion), and the lighting gave the whole creature a bit of a reddish colouration. I took it out with one Fireball, knocking it against the cave wall and causing it to disappear like a kill from Neverwinter Nights. Almost immediately thereafter we came upon the treasure chamber, which included a demonic dragon statue wearing an artifact which looked like the Crown of Tiamat. Directly beneath the metal Crown was a metal armature which must have been what the Crown's design was modeled on, as it contained five shrunken dragon heads which had shriveled with time. We turned as we saw the boss coming after us: a Large Red Dragon! We quickly surrounded it, and I must have changed the energy type of my Fireball to something other than fire and augmented it with feats or something, because I killed the dragon with one hit! The Fighter glared at me and I said something about him being great against the lower-level adversaries while I was left to nuke the bosses. Then the dream ended. I have my doubts that this was a prophetic dream, though such things do happen occasionally. Maybe the technology involved here says something about what someone posted elsewhere about '4th Edition by 2019'.... |
