| FnordBear08-14-06, 04:29 PM | 2. Vin Diesal. He admits it. |
| kaeso08-14-06, 04:36 PM | I think those are the only big ones out there :( Still, I couldn't be happier that they're the ones on the list :) |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht08-14-06, 04:52 PM | 3. Mike Myers 4. The Rock 5. Matt Groening |
| BlaineTog08-14-06, 04:57 PM | 6. Everyone in Hollywood. Except Tom Cruise. |
| Duncs08-14-06, 05:39 PM | Apparantly, an di am not 100% sure of this, Vin Diesal taught Dame Judy Dench the beautiful game. |
| Nadaka08-14-06, 05:50 PM | I heard that Alyson Hannigan plays, but I am not shure. |
| Bulletproof_Condom08-14-06, 05:51 PM | Apparantly, an di am not 100% sure of this, Vin Diesal taught Dame Judy Dench the beautiful game. ::nod:: When they were shooting Chronicles of Riddick, Vin got them playing in their down time. |
| Zaxon D'Mir08-14-06, 06:21 PM | Jenny McCarthy said in an E! interview several years ago that she played with her brother and his friends when she was in junior high. Wally Sparks (the comedian/actor) admitted he played D&D on the VH1 We Love The '80s part 1. He loves to play elves. Which also led to... Edwin McCain (the singer/songwriter) admitting he also played D&D when he was a kid. Wil Wheaton of ST:TNG fame still plays and says he played on the ST set many times but would not elaborate if Patrick Stewart or Michael Dorn were involved. |
| Bulletproof_Condom08-14-06, 06:43 PM | I could totally picture Dorn in the makeup with a fistful of dice declaring "If you tell ANYONE... about ANY of this... I'm going to get the belt." |
| Ranger REG08-14-06, 07:10 PM | I could totally picture Dorn in the makeup with a fistful of dice declaring "If you tell ANYONE... about ANY of this... I'm going to get the belt." Wheaton: "Um, it's a girdle of-" Dorn: "It's a belt! A belt of stone giant strength!" Wheaton: "Fine! It's a belt! Sheesh! It's still a girdle in D&D and it will forever be girdle. If not, I'll eat my wand of wonder." |
| Chrono Nexus08-14-06, 07:32 PM | I don't know for sure, but I have reason to believe William Shatner may have played at one time- since he was a main guest at Gencon Indy one year. We may find out when comedy central roasts him- playing DnD is still considered "dorky" by the mainstream, so it may come out... |
| Tarionz_Cousin08-14-06, 09:20 PM | Daryl Hannah said in an interview that she played something like a role-playing game. Of course, I can't remember or find the exact quote, but she hinted that it was D&D. She said something about a game where one person runs the game for others and they used dice. |
| mathew9908-14-06, 09:22 PM | apparently robbin williams plays D&D online. |
| The Livewire08-14-06, 09:49 PM | Lexi Doig (Shanks) said she played D&D in some of the early andromeda interviews. I joked, "That hot, single, plays D&D? In parents' basments across the US, thirty something men are building shrines to that woman." |
| Ranger REG08-15-06, 03:55 AM | I don't know for sure, but I have reason to believe William Shatner may have played at one time- since he was a main guest at Gencon Indy one year. We may find out when comedy central roasts him- playing DnD is still considered "dorky" by the mainstream, so it may come out... That must be one long session, with all of his dramatic overpausing. :P |

Of course, I can't remember or find the exact quote, but she hinted that it was D&D. She said something about a game where one person runs the game for others and they used dice. :uh-huh: Oh! Well, gee, that singled out Amber Diceless RPG and still leave hundreds(!) in contention. |
| cwslyclgh08-15-06, 04:14 AM | Ben Aflac and Mat Damon |
| Sulaco08-15-06, 09:44 AM | Actor Matthew Lillard is a big D&D fan. He did an interview about it on G4's Attack of the Show a while back, ending by stealing all the D&D Miniatures they had on set as props. |
| babysamurai08-15-06, 09:52 AM | Mike Myers And I have a sneaking suspicion that Jon Stewart plays. |
| CzarGarrett08-15-06, 10:33 AM | I play! Wait, no, I'm not famous, I don't count. Jim Breuer played, I don't know if he still does. I know, because I played a session along side of him. (http://imdb.com/name/nm0108028/) |
| BobtheMighty08-15-06, 11:49 AM | Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson) played DnD. |
| Ranger REG08-15-06, 09:13 PM | Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson) played DnD. Not my idea of a poster-boy nor a paid spokesman for Dungeons & Dragons. |
| Aurune08-16-06, 02:07 AM | I play! Wait, no, I'm not famous, I don't count. That made my day. :D |
| mearrin6908-16-06, 03:30 AM | Wil Wheaton of ST:TNG fame... Never much liked him until I read some of his Dungeon articles. Wasn't surprised to learn he plays though. Vin? I was a little surprised - but that's pretty cool. I can't even imagine playing with Robin Williams. You think anyone else would get a word in? Be a hoot to watch though. I'll add John Carmack and a good portion of the original id Software crew to the list. The Quake guy was supposedly originally based on somebody's DnD character. M |
| High Octane08-16-06, 05:06 AM | 3. Mike Myers 4. The Rock 5. Matt Groening #3 and #4 are only slight rumors. I never heard of either playing (Aside from a guy who said a guy said he knew a guy who said he knew a guy etc....) and I dont think either of them publicly said so. I honestly dont see the Rock as the type. Then again Vin Diesel didnt strike me either until I saw him off camera in an interview. (Guys a total nerd. TOTAL. He just has a personal trainer.) #5 is also heresay Im guessing, but this one is easily based on the D&D references seen in Futurama, which certainly do indicate he does or did. |
| Sulaco08-16-06, 10:00 AM | #3 and #4 are only slight rumors. Mike Myers playing is not a rumor, it is a fact. The "Lothar of the Hill People" character he did on SNL was based on an old D&D character of his. He talked about this in a TV interview here in Canada (his homeland) several years ago. |
| Shekias08-16-06, 10:04 AM | I could honestly see Robin Williams playing as a bard... |

Didn’t Robin Williams say it was like living in a loft apartment over a great party? |
| Alinda_Shipsail308-16-06, 10:15 AM | David X. Cohen & John DiMaggio of Futurama fame play!! They're what got me interested n the game. That and the LOTR books. Middle Earth representin bizzatch. Haha. There's a large ammount of Vin Disel fans at my school who'd have their world compltely rocked if they knew he was a nerd! Hmm...methinks this gives me an idea... :D |
| Sulaco08-16-06, 10:15 AM | So, should we blame Canada? Didn’t Robin Williams say it was like living in a loft apartment over a great party? Could be, but I don't put much stock in the opinions of alcoholic cokeheads so it doesn't really matter much to me. |
| babysamurai08-16-06, 10:19 AM | Could be, but I don't put much stock in the opinions of alcoholic cokeheads so it doesn't really matter much to me. Why should it matter? …It was just a joke. I went to Toronto once, though – beautiful city. |

Olsson, Björn-Erik Karlsson, Daniel Antonsson and Tommy Karlsson Olsson liked "Dungeons and Dragons" and "Call of Chtulhu" RPGs the best. |
| bal300008-17-06, 08:07 AM | I believe Marilyn Manson's actual written statement in his autobigography were that every game of DnD you play delays you losing your virginity by 7 days. altough he admited he played loads in his early teens.... but definetly NOT a posterboy for the cause. |
| Mathius08-17-06, 01:20 PM | Eddie Izzard Johnny Vaughn Michael Greco Dave Gorman If you dont know who these people are then you should visit the Old Country more often |
| The_Levitator08-17-06, 01:57 PM | Now I would give my right arm to play a session with Eddie Izzard. Can you even begin to imagine how fun that would be? :D |
| BlaineTog08-17-06, 02:23 PM | Is it just me, or does this look like a bunch of fangirls trying to guess who's in / remember who's out of the closet? (And I can't believe this thead got to 40 replies before someone noticed this). |

It was one of many bits of propaganda (remember the Chic Tract on Dark Dungeons) passed about to demonise Dungeons and Dragons. |
| eileenh2808-17-06, 04:45 PM | Haha. There's a large ammount of Vin Disel fans at my school who'd have their world compltely rocked if they knew he was a nerd! Oy, anybody who saw him on Letterman the last time he was on already knows he's a huge nerd. I'm convinced he's a total dork, he just happens to go to the gym. PS: I loves me some Vin Diesel. What I wouldn't give to be in a game with him! Yum. |

| Erloas08-17-06, 11:35 PM | That has to be one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Funny in a pathetic sort of way that is. Even growing up around a lot of "just a little bit too religious" families in my town I still can't fathom where they get some of their ideas. As for famous people that have played D&D I'm sure the list is actually quite long. Its just like "normal" people though, its not like the majority of them would go around telling everyone they play and its not like it would even come up much. |

| mathogre08-25-06, 12:27 PM | So you young people better make sure you lose your virginity first, and then start playing D&D. Just to be safe. A dungeon master, a roleplayer, and a power gamer discuss what is better: a wife or a girlfriend. The DM: "A girlfriend. You still have freedom to experiment." The Roleplayer: "A wife. You have security." The Power Gamer: "Both. When I'm not with my wife, she thinks I'm with my girlfriend. With my girlfriend it's vice versa. | deafbymetal08-28-06, 12:49 PM | On a side note, kinda related to this thread: how many of us would watch a "Celebrity D&D" show? I mean, they show celeb's playing poker of all things, as well as playing golf, etc. Why not a show with them roleplaying characters, with maybe a guest DM appearance by someone who works for Wotc? I think it would be pretty cool to see. The SciFi channel might show it, and I'm sure the stars that are vocal about playing (such as Vin Diesel) would appear just for the fun of it. And it may just show non-players that most of us do not worship Satan and sacrifice puppies on game night. Of course, the odds of this happening is most likely zilch. |

Not neccisarily. Have you ever watched mythbusters where they explain ideas or laws of physics. They could do something like that so the viewers get to pick up some obscure rules at the same time. Or just cut to some adverts. But the DM reading the rulebooks would be funny on tv. Just so surreal. |

| BobtheMighty08-29-06, 10:19 PM | As far as a source for Marilyn Manson's DnD experiences, it oughta be in any biography that mentions his formative years in any detail. Personally, I've heard it during interviews of his childhood friends on various video documentaries/biographies. I wanna say the one in particular I'm thinking of was a VH-1 Behind the Music on Marilyn Manson, but it could have been a cheap MTV imitation. It aired roughly four years ago. They mentioned that Brian Warner always took up the reins of Dungeon Master, and he had an incredible, vivid imagination. As far as during the timeline of his life, I'm not sure whether this occured before, during, or after his transfer from a Christian school to a public school. |

D&D would be fun to watch though because people can get lively and animated. Not to mention the imagination involved on the viewers part. It could be set up like a game show where they randomly freeze a player's action and viewers call in to say what their PC does next (and possibly do the same with the DM's monter or NPC). Of course it'd be comedy, and the affected gamer would act distressed, for example, if a munchkin's half-troll barbarian PC "decides" to give a beloved magic item to the party's bard -- as a gift (and in the middle of combat). |

| Joseph Greenway08-30-06, 04:05 AM | Then marry the he-she. At least you won't have to stay where it's cold on your honeymoon. Just promise to name your firstborn "Beelzebub." :P Why so hostile? Jealous that he's banged Rose McGowan? |
| Thurbane08-30-06, 04:08 AM | Rose McGowan AND Dita VonTeese. Bastid. ...yes, yes I am jealous! :D Nah, MM's alright, for an Alice Cooper wannabe... |
| troutman08-30-06, 02:26 PM | Weezer. Steven Erikson, author of Malazan Book Of The Fallen. |

| Moniker08-30-06, 06:15 PM | Hell ESPN used to show Magic: the Gathering tournaments, I don't know why they couldn't pick up D&D sessions. Though at about the time the DM haults the game to flip through a book for some obscure rule, the chanel is going to change to something a bit more "riviting". Magic is a competative game. Dungeons and Dragons is not. |
| High Octane08-30-06, 07:30 PM | Stephen King (no surprise)... Actually this IS a surprise for me. |
| Ranger REG08-30-06, 09:53 PM | Dungeons and Dragons is not. Unless you add an Individual Award system. |
| BobSutan08-30-06, 11:03 PM | I just did a google search for celebrity D&D and found the following image from {WizO_Cat: Link removed. Let's leave off the political and religious figures from the listing. Thanks.} |
| RetiredThief08-30-06, 11:43 PM | On a side note, kinda related to this thread: how many of us would watch a "Celebrity D&D" show? I mean, they show celeb's playing poker of all things, as well as playing golf, etc. Why not a show with them roleplaying characters, with maybe a guest DM appearance by someone who works for Wotc? Also have a guest cartoonist illustrate their adventures, with their characters speaking their players words. |
| greatamericanfolkhero08-31-06, 02:22 AM | I just did a google search for celebrity D&D and found the following image from. This has already been posted and removed, and I still say that he wouldn't let people sit that close to the screen. |
| Prak, the Mad08-31-06, 05:29 PM | That must be one long session, with all of his dramatic overpausing. :P actually that dramatic pausing thing he does for kirk(and well, everytime he speaks now, since it's become iconic and expected...) was his way of portraying a man attempting to overcome/compensate for a stutter. |
| Prak, the Mad08-31-06, 06:03 PM | Then marry the he-she. At least you won't have to stay where it's cold on your honeymoon. I much prefer the colder regions of hell. 3-already planned. |
| Iddig Ap Nil08-31-06, 06:54 PM | and before anyone can say it bill gates never played dnd ever! hes a computer nerd and also he had microsoft to co-run when dnd first was published nation wide. But, there's proof in his character sheet (http://www.theonion.com/content/node/29743)...:D |
| Ranger REG09-01-06, 04:27 AM | Bill Gate don't play D&D. He's a GURPS/Illuminati fan. *boo! hiss!* |
| Sulaco09-01-06, 10:49 AM | This has already been posted and removed, and I still say that he wouldn't let people sit that close to the screen. Yeah, but wouldn't it be nice to have a table that big to game on? Imagine the dungeon map you could lay ou on that sucker! |
| jokei09-01-06, 11:32 AM | Does anyone know if Joss Whedon plays/played? So many, many references in Buffy. Also, I don't like Marilyn Manson, but I'll defend his right to play D&D. Also, to his credit, one of the voices of reason on Bowling for Columbine??? |
| deafbymetal09-01-06, 03:32 PM | Yeah, but wouldn't it be nice to have a table that big to game on? Imagine the dungeon map you could lay ou on that sucker! If you think that table is nice, check out what they've done at Agyris (http://www.agyris.net/v3/ugt/)! This has to be one of the nicest gaming tables I've seen. The only thing I see about it that I do not like is the height (which could be easily modified- cut the legs shorter!), and the size of the playing surface itself (again, easily modified). They have been talking about releasing the plans for a while now, but so far no luck. |
| Ranger REG09-01-06, 10:50 PM | Yeah, but wouldn't it be nice to have a table that big to game on? Imagine the dungeon map you could lay ou on that sucker! Do you know how many treants they have to kill to make that table? Lumberjack lover... :P |
| boozerker09-10-06, 05:42 AM | Sherman Alexie ...an award-winning and prolific writer (of novels, short stories, poems, and screenplays) and occasional comedian who lives in Seattle, Washington. Much of his writing draws on his experiences as a modern Native American (he is a Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Indian) in the United States. | Thurbane09-10-06, 09:32 AM | Bill Gate don't play D&D. He's a GURPS/Illuminati fan. *boo! hiss!* Hmm, Bill Gates would be way off the Wealth by Level table, unless he is like a 600th level Expert... |
| BobSutan09-10-06, 11:04 AM | I'd be willing to bet Jack Black has played. Give Wonderboy a listen and you'll see why I think this. http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/filmography.html?p_id=195232&mod=bio |
| boozerker09-11-06, 12:33 AM | At the Teen Choice Awards last August... Ryan Cabrera, Nick Cannon, Jon Heder, Jesse McCartney, and David Boreanaz earned true geek credentials when they scooped up armfuls of Dungeons & Dragons games. Maybe one of them will get into it. Lauren Graham of the Gilmore Girls http://i4.tinypic.com/2uhq1dk.jpg Hulk Hogan with a dwarven Miniature http://i7.tinypic.com/2mzlevt.jpg Jesse McCartney http://i5.tinypic.com/477z19v.jpg I'd be willing to bet Jack Black has played. Give Wonderboy a listen and you'll see why I think this. http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/filmography.html?p_id=195232&mod=bio You're probably right. Check this quote too here (http://www.pr-inside.com/entertainment-blog/2006/09/01/the-things-they-say-jack-black/). (I’m going to go with RONNIE JAMES DIO’s THE LAST IN LINE. It’s basically him walking around Middle Earth with his Dungeons & Dragons sword, winging about the f**king devil. It’s pretty rad. -- Jack Black) |
| Ranger REG09-11-06, 03:56 AM | At the Teen Choice Awards last August... Maybe one of them will get into it. Lauren C. Mayhew of the all-girl band P.Y.T http://i4.tinypic.com/2uhq1dk.jpg Dude, if she needs a game tutor, I'm there!!! Hulk Hogan with a dwarven Miniature http://i7.tinypic.com/2mzlevt.jpg Oh, great, I'm getting a visual of a dwarf going "Hulkamania time, brother!!!" But I'll let him in if he brings his daughter Brooke to the game session. :D |
| RedUncle09-11-06, 09:43 AM | yes!! Hulk Hogan rules!! I met him back in 92 in Tampa --- he was awesome... I've been a massive fan ever since - haha what a great picture! thanks for sharing that :D |
| eileenh2809-11-06, 11:36 AM | David Boreanaz? Doesn't surprise me at all. Like Vin, he's just a big nerd who got blessed with exceptional good looks and goes to the gym. Check out any time Boreanaz is interviewed and the infamous "Dancing Angel" scene for proof. |
| Edge_of_Oblivion09-11-06, 11:47 AM | Also, I'm 100% sure Metallica plays/once played D&D. Just to confirm this one. They're big Call of Cthulhu fans. It's probably been a long, long time since they've played though. I blame Hetfield going through rehab for everything from their horrible new music to the potential lack of D&D in their lives (much as I hate to admit it, as I applaud the guy for kicking the addiction). |
| Ryngard09-11-06, 03:21 PM | I know that Heather Graham voiced and played EverQuest 2... not sure if she still does play and/or if she plays other games. |
| Osedox09-11-06, 07:16 PM | Sherman Alexie Rocks, The Lone Ranger and Tanto, A Fistfight in Heaven AKA Smoke Signals is a great book/movie. Also after watching some Dane Cook recently I have a sneaking suspicion that he is a gamer. |
| coomber09-11-06, 07:56 PM | Watched Futurama tonight and there was a Gelatinous Cube...oops, I mean a Gelatinous Beast, which of course would not infringe copyright at all. *cough* |
| Kazeofwinds09-11-06, 08:08 PM | I'm pretty sure Conan O'brien plays(or used to), I know hes mentioned it a few times. |
| boozerker09-21-06, 05:46 AM | It's probable that Darby Conley plays. He draws the Get Fuzzy comics, and this (http://www.comics.com/comics/getfuzzy/archive/getfuzzy-20060916.html) comic seems plenty of indication for his D&D geekiness. (thanks Skeetweasel for posting the link in "Get Fuzzy" thread) |
| Kargush09-21-06, 06:22 AM | This thread has given me lots of ammo against anti-rpg people... *evil, demented cackle* |

| Ranger REG09-22-06, 05:01 PM | *evil, demented cackle* :uh-huh: Who cackles outside of Halloween? *BWAH-HAHAHAHA!* :evillaugh |
| lollerkeet09-23-06, 07:50 AM | I'm pretty sure Conan O'brien plays(or used to), I know hes mentioned it a few times. Listen to the Vin Diesel interview where Vin talks about playing - it doesn't sound like Conan has. Such a pity with a name like that... |
| UmbralKnight09-23-06, 11:45 AM | Lauren C. Mayhew of the all-girl band P.Y.T http://i4.tinypic.com/2uhq1dk.jpg Sure thats Lauren Mayhew? Looks more like Lauren Graham. |
| Anung_Un_Rama09-23-06, 01:12 PM | I don't really understand the Marilyn Manson hate here. Come on, its just fun music. In my experience, most D&D player's I've met (including myself, of course) are big metal and goth fans. I heard once that the band Amon Amarth (viking battle metal, for the uninitiated) play, but then that could be as truthful as the rumor that Dimmu Borgir are literate enough to play Call of Cthulhu. (And in my eyes, these folks ARE famous) |
| High Octane09-23-06, 08:01 PM | I don't really understand the Marilyn Manson hate here. Some people just dont like him. Probably because they have met way too many emo kids and he reminds them of the emo. I blame emo for pretty much all the problems in the world. |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli09-23-06, 08:20 PM | I blame emo for pretty much all the problems in the world. Quoted for truth. |
| Ranger REG09-23-06, 10:18 PM | I don't really understand the Marilyn Manson hate here. Well, it's like my take with Prince. I like his music. Can't stand the artist behind the music. Of course, when I first heard Marilyn Manson's music, I immediately hate it. I tried not to. But ... *shrugs.* So I hate the artist and his music. |
| boozerker09-24-06, 02:03 AM | Sure thats Lauren Mayhew? Looks more like Lauren Graham.Definitely is. Will correct the other post. Thanks UmbralKnight. |
| UmbralKnight09-24-06, 03:21 AM | My pleasure. Thanks for the awesome pics! :ayyyy!: |

| riceisnice09-26-06, 04:23 AM | Marcy Playground (responsible for the 1997 one-hit-wonder "Sex & Candy") have a song called "Cloak of Elvenkind". Weezer's "In The Garage" starts with lyrics about a 12 sided die and a Dungeon Master's Guide. Emo group My Chemical Romance played D&D with the band Thrice on the Vans Warped Tour. MCR's lead singer Gerard Way apparently plays a half-elf ranger. |
| riceisnice09-26-06, 04:27 AM | Oh and Alice Cooper played D&D in an episode of that 70's show. |
| Dhomal10-03-06, 01:07 AM | Hello- Just a couple of quick adds to the list. Some/all of the guys in Barenaked Ladies have played, though it seems like it has been quite a while. I once had an interesting conversation with an older woman working at a small little used bookstore. Her son apparently worked on Sesame Street, and he was a gamer - as were a Lot of his co-workers. This women would have no reason I can fathom in making this story up. I found it quite amusing - and actually have never really run into the right place to pass this tidbit on! As far as speculation goes - I could definately see John & John from TMBG playing, but there is not evidence that I'm aware of. On a related side note - Raymond E Feist, author of the Riftwar books is a gamer. In fact - Midkemia - the name of the world his books take place on is the world that he and his friends created to game in. They also produced at least a couple of self-published gaming items somewhere in the pre-history of 3rd party accessories (1978-1982 or thereabouts) under the name of Midkemia Press. I figured out he was a gamer once I pieced the name reference - as well as 'Ray Feist' being listed in the credits. I actually have one of these accessories - but I cant even begin to remember What it is! Maybe I'll go looking for it - its been a while since Ive seen it! Dhomal |
| Fedifensor10-03-06, 01:40 AM | Not neccisarily. Have you ever watched mythbusters where they explain ideas or laws of physics. They could do something like that so the viewers get to pick up some obscure rules at the same time. Or just cut to some adverts. But the DM reading the rulebooks would be funny on tv. Just so surreal. Speaking of Mythbusters, at least one cast member can be pointed to... "While Kari Byron was studying film and sculpture at San Francisco State University, her parents were wondering what kind of job she'd actually end up with in the real world. She’d be writing, directing and starring in B-level schlock-horror films one day; the next she'd be sculpting intricate model dragons for Dungeons & Dragons fans." |
| The_Bard_No_One_Wanted10-03-06, 02:05 AM | Someone mentioned "blaming Canada"? Well, on that musical note, Matt and John have both played in the past, but if that is news to you, you live in a box. Well.. isn't a house just an over sized box with a top on it, and little holes to look out of, and holes to enter and leave from, and holes for all sorts of nonsense? Hey, I would know what houses look like, okay? For Chrissake, I live in the sky with Colonel Sanders. I would know. And if nobody mentioned it, Comedians Patton Oswald and Brian Posehn are nerdy nerds, so they most likely play DnD regularly. |
| Gothenem10-03-06, 02:49 AM | Yeah, I know that Ed Robertson (one of the singers of Barenaked Ladies) played. Perhaps a better question here would be what celebrities still play or have an interest in D&D... That said, some people I don't KNOW play but suspect: Joss Whedon Matt Groening Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith (a.k.a. Jay and Silent Bob) Sean William Scott Levar Burton Robert Picardo Joe Rogan (On this one, I don't know WHY, but he just strikes me as the type...Maybe Fear Factor had to do with that). I have heard that this person played, but don't think he did/does Patrick Stewart Also others already mentioned that I knew played: Robin Williams Vin Deisel Marylin Manson I heard a rumor that a guy named Gary Gygax played. I dunno though... :P |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht10-03-06, 07:56 AM | Joss Whedon Matt Groening No one could fit that many references in without playing. |
| Templetroll10-03-06, 08:20 AM | but would not elaborate if Patrick Stewart or Michael Dorn were involved. Michael Dorn was known to have played an online flight simulation called Warbirds. After Next generation did well he bought himself a real warbird and I don't know if he plays anymore. |
| Errean10-03-06, 09:01 AM | Robert Jordan, author of the fantasy epic The Wheel of Time, stated in the introduction to the d20 game based on his books that he DMed for his son and his son's friends long before he started writing Conan or his original works. |
| Bane10-03-06, 10:03 AM | Probably Weird Al Yankovic. He mentions it in 'White and Nerdy' and he seems the type. |
| bobsan10-03-06, 10:04 AM | Eddie Izzard Robin Williams Vin Deisel Hulk Hogan Patrick Stewert Michael Dorn Here's our first group for ESPN's D&D Gaming Coverage. This would be great to see IMO. |
| Nowak10-03-06, 11:25 AM | Any Clutch fans here? Neil Fallon (and probably other members) of the band Clutch has played. They have an unreleased song called 24 Earth Years with the lyrics "Way back in 1980 / We played the AD&D / My character was baffling / A druid wizard halfling", and then numerous references to a 20-sided die. Also, for their album The Elephant Riders, the title track was about an alternate reality in which the Civil War was fought with elephant cavalries and dirigibles and stuff. He stated that the concept ended up being too big for a song, but it would have made a good role-playing game. And based on Mastodon's album Blood Mountain, I have strong suspicions that drummer Brann Dailor has played. He wrote most of the lyrics, and it's very D&D-ish, with references to ogres, dwarves, and other mythological beings and monsters. |
| Anung_Un_Rama10-03-06, 11:43 AM | That'd be so cool if the guys from Mastodon played. Then I could finally say that D&D is f**king metal. Because it totally is! |
| boozerker10-03-06, 11:52 AM | Any Clutch fans here? Great band, especially on stage. Last time we also saw their instrumental side project The Bakerton Group opening -- what a show. They have free downloads of that music and other goodies from Clutch at their main website (http://pro-rock.com/v6/multimedia.html). By what you say, it wouldn't be surprising if Clutch spent time D&Ding. |
| eienhitori10-03-06, 12:21 PM | I'm curious why are religious figures and 'real' people not allowed? If they are a state senator as long as it is not slander why can they not be mentioned? They aren't a movie star but there are people that are famous for religious reasons. ie Angie Stone on celebrity fit club is a famous gospel singer could I not mention her if I found out she really played DnD? Are actors any less 'real' than say Ronald Regan. If he really played what is the harm in mentioning it as long as you keep your political opinion out of the postings? As long as you're not being rude about it like some of the Marilyn Manson comments I don't see the problem. No trolling just an honest question. |
| Rian Lightblade10-03-06, 12:30 PM | Now I would give my right arm to play a session with Eddie Izzard. Can you even begin to imagine how fun that would be? :D Totally! I'm sure he'd play a fantastic character, with fantastic make-up;) |
| Wyrm_Pilot10-03-06, 12:31 PM | And I have a sneaking suspicion that Jon Stewart plays. Well, he's said as much on international TV, so I'm incluned to believe it. Also in the media blitz around last year's World Wide Game Day, somewhere I did see film footage of Andy Dick talking about having played. Not that that's as good an endorsement as, say, Doug Henning would have been... ;) I'm pretty sure Conan O'brien plays(or used to), I know hes mentioned it a few times. As much as he makes his living on telling jokes, I think we can take the man at his word when he's talked about it several times. I blame emo for pretty much all the problems in the world. Emo Phillips? Funny guy. Don't know if he ever played, though... I actually have one of these accessories - but I cant even begin to remember What it is! Maybe I'll go looking for it - its been a while since Ive seen it! Midkemia Press (http://www.midkemia.com/) is still active, although Ray Feist has never been part of it. He was a fringe member of the gaming group, and they gave him exclusive rights to publish fiction set in that world; but he's not one of the original designers. | ccerose10-03-06, 12:40 PM | Ed Robertson from the band Barenaked Ladies plays. They were famous at one time. Also David X. Cohen an executive producer for both Futurama and The Simpsons played D&D. |
| MrFilthyIke10-03-06, 02:11 PM | Ed Robertson from the band Barenaked Ladies plays. They were famous at one time. Also David X. Cohen an executive producer for both Futurama and The Simpsons played D&D. In David's piece in the 30 year D&D hardback book, he says he never had time to play during Futurama, but most the writers did, and they kept D&D books in the office as "referrence" material. |
| smeagol_lied10-03-06, 02:24 PM | Johnny Vaughn Johnny Vaughn actually plays?! Sweeet... that guy kicks ass on best of the worst... and other shows, but mostly best of the worst. Yeah, i only knew of Vin Diesel for sure. |
| Valesin10-03-06, 02:31 PM | Seems that WizO_Cat is working hard on keeping this thread safe. I salute you, sir or madam, for doing your part in stopping a flamewar. :) As for D&D-playing celebs...I can't think of any that haven't already been mentioned. Part of me is glad WizO_Cat is so on top of things because I hate when things get ugly. The other part of me was reading along saying to myself "What did I miss? So many moderator warnings, things must of been getting pretty hot." Now I will go back to quietly weeping at the thought of missing Stephen Colbert at GenCon. |
| BranWheat10-03-06, 02:37 PM | Check out any time Boreanaz is interviewed and the infamous "Dancing Angel" scene for proof. Easily one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen in a television show. |
| Raziel_Brokodar10-03-06, 03:14 PM | Oh and Alice Cooper played D&D in an episode of that 70's show. hahaha yeah that was awesome! |
| Madhouse10-03-06, 03:18 PM | Since he hasn't been mentioned yet: Alexis Cruz (Skaara in Stargate and now Martin Allende in the new series Shark with James Woods) I used to play Vampire: The Masquerade LARP with him some time ago and he mentioned playing D&D when we had dinner in Salt Lake City during his gig as Rafael on "Touched by an Angel". Nice to see him getting some regular work these days. :) Cheers! |
| FREAK0610-03-06, 04:05 PM | Can i just ask why everyone keeps saying "admitted" its not a crime to play dnd, as is shown by the amount of really cool people who play it. I mean come on, who here would consider themselves a nerd? Anyway who cares if you are a nerd, its not gonna kill anyone is it. sorry had to ask. Oh yeh why is everyone slagging of marylin manson, he might be a right weirdo, but that don't change his music does it. And yes emos are to blame for all of the worlds problems. |
| Jack Greylock10-03-06, 05:11 PM | Surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet but I know David Cross (of the Mr. Show) has talked about playing and has even said that he and several other comedians that he wouldn't name, have a regular group they play in. Boy would I ever love to play in that group. |
| freeholder10-03-06, 07:00 PM | So, should we blame Canada? The rangers of canada shall strike swithtly and kill you for that |
| LordGodefroi10-03-06, 08:39 PM | Right you are, Alice blazed the trail for MM. . . . And Screamin' Jay Hawkins ["I Put a Spell on You" (1956)]blazed the way for 'em all. The pioneer of shock rock, Screamin Jay used to climb out of a coffin at the beginning of each performance (for starters) and carried a skull named Henry. "When I go, I don't want to be buried. I've been in too many damn coffins already!" -Screamin Jay Hawkins. I'm pretty sure he wasn't a DnD player. |
| BrianCritchley10-03-06, 08:46 PM | I don't know for sure, but I have reason to believe William Shatner may have played at one time- since he was a main guest at Gencon Indy one year. We may find out when comedy central roasts him- playing DnD is still considered "dorky" by the mainstream, so it may come out... well there have been various trek related games. |
| LordGodefroi10-03-06, 08:52 PM | Although this is conjecture, I'm pretty sure Bill Amend, cartoonist for the strip "Fox Trot," has played DnD at least once considering all the geek references that pepper his strips. And, FYI, the comedian's name is Patton Oswalt |
| KamiBushi10-03-06, 08:55 PM | Now I will go back to quietly weeping at the thought of missing Stephen Colbert at GenCon. :weep: You too?:weep: Man I would have given all my limbs minus my right arm to be at that GenCon. I need that right arm, for rolling dice and eating. But that would have been sooooooooooooo cool to see him. :OMG! that is totally amazing that so many celebs play/ played D&D. Cool. Now I don't feel alone in the world. ;):P |
| Trizzdal10-03-06, 09:23 PM | I'm curious why are religious figures and 'real' people not allowed? If they are a state senator as long as it is not slander why can they not be mentioned? They aren't a movie star but there are people that are famous for religious reasons. ie Angie Stone on celebrity fit club is a famous gospel singer could I not mention her if I found out she really played DnD? Are actors any less 'real' than say Ronald Regan. If he really played what is the harm in mentioning it as long as you keep your political opinion out of the postings? I second that. If someone is in a movie or a TV show then suddenly they're stripped of some kind of right to privacy that political and religious figures are perpetually entitled to? I must say I don't get it and I find the very idea offensive. Why can we discuss which Gilmore Girls stars play but are prohibited from dishing about whom among our elected representiatives play? If Barak Obama plays I'd acutally be far more interested in hearing about that than in pictures of celebrities standing next to gaming products at press events (oh, just so everyone knows... those events are where celebrities and personalities go to get schwag... they rarely have any idea what they're holding or standing next to, they just spend about twenty minutes being ushered by publicists from one schwag-stand to the next taking pictures and at the end they're handed bags of free stuff... not to burst any bubbles or anything, that's just what happens). Will the moderator please post her rationality behind this confusing double standard? Thank you :) |

| Anung_Un_Rama10-03-06, 09:58 PM | Emo Phillips? Funny guy. Don't know if he ever played, though... The reference was to the genre of emo music, a crummy, depressing sub-genre of punk rock that passes for a cheap imitation of goth. You'd be surprised how many people are lucky to not have heard of emo. I wish I hadn't, but when you listen to hardcore, metal and goth, its an unfortunate variable in your quest for new music. |
| jerrytherobot10-03-06, 10:26 PM | Rock singer/songwriter Ben Kweller plays on his tour bus, according to 30 years of adventure. His road manager DMs. |
| RetiredThief10-03-06, 10:31 PM | Eddie Izzard Robin Williams Vin Deisel Hulk Hogan Patrick Stewert Michael Dorn Here's our first group for ESPN's D&D Gaming Coverage. This would be great to see IMO. Ok. But who DM's? My initial impulse is Robin Williams. But then it occurs to me that he wouldn't need any players. He'd just do everything, until the others got bored, shoving him into a locker, and then started up their own game. So instead, just start with someone else DMing right off the bat? |
| om_dorastrix10-03-06, 10:32 PM | The producers/writers/actors for stargate SG-1 must be, the newest episode the one witht he search for merlins weapon hidden behind a temporal trap, and through a maze of tunnels, guarded by a dragon...?!? |
| eienhitori10-03-06, 11:51 PM | A moderator explains the reasoning you seek in this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=699447) thread. I read the thread and understand it but if I just say: "so and so, a famous (insert denomination here) minister" plays DnD I'm not touching on anything other than the fact that he is a famous minister of a certain denomination. Or even with details left out and someone askes and I clarify, again without slander, s/he is famous as per the thread title, he is just famous for a different reason than Lindsey Lohan or Tyra Banks. Now if someone starts going on a tirade about said denomination, I could see said tirade being deleted as per the thread you linked. So therefore if the person(s) that listed political/religious figures had some off color comment then I can understand the posts being cleaned up. But if they did not have said elements then why did they go? Again I'm not trying to throw out bait, just a question from a lurker. |
| JacobWebber10-04-06, 12:14 AM | That'd be so cool if the guys from Mastodon played. Then I could finally say that D&D is f**king metal. Because it totally is! DnD is metal my friend, although I dont share the same enthusiam about Mastodon, I can point you to some insane power metal bands...Blind Guardian constantly sings about Lord of the Rings and things of the sort, Avantasia/edguy have fantasy lyrics, Dragonforce, Rhapsody []now they're Rhapsody of Fire or something weird like that[]...I dunno if they DO play, but they definitely all sing about huge battles, dragons, swords, elves and all that... |
| boozerker10-04-06, 12:23 AM | So therefore if the person(s) that listed political/religious figures had some off color comment then I can understand the posts being cleaned up. But if they did not have said elements then why did they go? Ahhh, the posts had jokes about certain presidents having played, and someone even posted an image (spoof) of certain political figures sitting behind a DM screen and old rulebooks scattered about. It's pretty funny, but they won't allow it -- and the WizOs aren't to blame for that. Which is fine because the unending responses to commentary or jokes on touchy subjects isn't what visitors are looking for in these forums. |
| Nyaricus10-04-06, 12:32 AM | Steven Erikson, author of Malazan Book Of The Fallen. Actually, I have an in-depth knowledge about Steven Ericson: Steven Ericson originally started in AD&D (with a lot of heavy-duty houserules to cover for a bunch of stuff they wanted in their games) with his game world (which is indeed the setting for his novels in the series "Malazan Book of the Fallen"). Then, when GURPS first came out, he and his co-creators/players immediatly switched over to that system, as they found it to be better suited to their vision of how they wanted characters to be created and their game to be run. They have stuck with that system throughout the years, although actual gameplay has slowed down considerably from what I know of this (his group of gamers/friends is strung out all over Canada, some in Winnipeg). How do I know all this? A player in my group is Steven Ericson's best friends' son :D cheers, --N P.S. While I don't listen to them, I've seen on Much Music that Swollen Members play D&D. |
| Penguin_Witchdoctor10-04-06, 01:11 AM | Amog Robin Williams' gaming friends he counts Billy Crystal as a fellow 40K player. So, could Robin have gotten him to play D&D? Coud you just imagine that 40K game though? |
| Sasquatch10-04-06, 10:22 AM | I heard rumors that during the filming of the movie "Parenthood", Keanu Reeves and Joaquin Pheonix played between takes. |

He'd just do everything, until the others got bored, shoving him into a locker, and then started up their own game. So instead, just start with someone else DMing right off the bat? Easy, Joe Rogan would DM. Christina Applegate played a game of D&D in her series Jesse. |
| babysamurai10-04-06, 11:36 AM | Christina Applegate played a game of D&D in her series Jesse. So, is D&D becoming chic? We have “Heroin Chic”, why not “Geek Chic”? |

I thought the exact same thing when I saw that episode. "This is just like out of our D&D campaign". Then I though the writers really did just give up this season, but that's for another thread. |

Dude! Dragonforce is like the most metal band ever! I'm not big on power metal (more of a metalcore/ thrash guy myself) but I freaking love Dragonforce. Seriously. They're amazing. I want to drink mead from a horn and ride a unicorn while slaying dragons and storming castles when I listen to their music. |
| Anung_Un_Rama10-04-06, 04:19 PM | Oh, and Wasted Time by Edguy is one of my favorite songs ever. It's power metal, but drop dead amazing. I'd find it hard to believe if I was told Dragonforce or Edguy have never played at least one game of D&D. |

| Sergikins10-04-06, 06:06 PM | Better get back up here. This is a song about a guy you might remember from high school, or you might be this guy from high school. I don't know.. -------------------- (How about a little harmonica?) I've got my twelve sided die and I'm ready to roll with a wizard and my goblin crew. My friends are comin' over to my mom's basement bringin' funyuns and a mountain dew. I got a big broad sword made out of cardboard and that stereo's a-pumpin zeppelin. It's that time of the night we turn on the black light let the dungeons and the dragons begin. It's D and D! Fighting with the legends of yore. It's D and D! Never kissed lady before. Nope! Whoo! Now the Lord of the Rings, the dark crystal and things. We use these as a reference tool. And when we put on our cloaks and tell warlock jokes we're the coolest kids at the school... No we're not. I know. Now Teich's a real bastard but a fair dungeon master. He's got hit points and charisma to lend. And I rehearse in my room, or what I call the dragon's tomb, when I'm not out with my girlfriend. It's D and D... wait... Sorry, You got a girlfriend? Yeah. Yeah, I got a...no. It's D and D! Warriors that terrify. It's D and D! Virgins 'till the day we... Die! Stephen Lynch folks |

Well, we've already had posts about 'What would Robin Williams play as?' If someone said <Political Figure A> would definitely be a paladin, that's an invitation for everyone who disagrees to start flinging about their disparate political opinions. There are other forums for political arguments, we don't need them here. |
| dirtyjeep10-04-06, 06:56 PM | I'm surprised this one hasn't been mentioned. I was watching Conan O'Brien a week or two ago and he had David Duchovney (sp?) on and David briefly talked about playing D&D when he was younger and of course Conan made another one of his D&D references (I think he used to play too). |
| KP9110-04-06, 07:36 PM | Actor Matthew Lillard is a big D&D fan. He did an interview about it on G4's Attack of the Show a while back, ending by stealing all the D&D Miniatures they had on set as props. I believe it was in Without a Paddle, in his comments on the DVD, he mentions it. He says he improvised the line, you should always bring more rope, because of his DnD games. |

| roguemage10-05-06, 11:43 PM | Donald Faison (of Scrubs and Clueless fame) plays D&D. I played in a group back in Los Angeles in the late 90's (most of us worked on the Power Rangers TV series) and he played from time to time. His character was a Monk. |
| Sadrx10-06-06, 11:37 PM | Cradle of Filth are likely Call of Cthulhu players (take the Mother of Abominations song for instance). Insane Clown Posse definitely played D&D together when they were younger. From Get Ya Wicked On: I got 18 plus speed (uh huh) With a plus 2 dagger from the Tomb of Horrors, D&D I know for a fact that John Marco (fantasy author) played as well, but he has a lesser a known name. |

No offense but I wouldnt mention the ICP+DnD connection, some of the stuff in their songs would give pinhead nightmares (my brother loves those guys I cant stand them I have that Crooked Preacher Killer song stuck in my head and I hate that song!) ....I really need to stop ranting. |
| boozerker10-25-06, 04:15 PM | Emilio Estévez supposedly mentioned being treasurer for his school's D&D club, on a Saturday Night Live segment of "Geek, Dweeb, or Spaz" if anyone saw it. |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli02-04-07, 06:59 AM | :bump: |
| Ikyotojin02-04-07, 02:15 PM | Robert Asprin (Theives World) and he's also an old member of the SCA - I got drunk with him a few times. |
| leather_book_wizard02-04-07, 03:21 PM | Hell ESPN used to show Magic: the Gathering tournaments, I don't know why they couldn't pick up D&D sessions. Though at about the time the DM haults the game to flip through a book for some obscure rule, the chanel is going to change to something a bit more "riviting". If it was pretaped, they could just edit out the book flipping to save time. |
| leather_book_wizard02-04-07, 03:30 PM | Not Shocking but: RA Salvatore plays, and has used at least some material for his books. What gave it away?;) |

| Boraxe02-05-07, 11:06 AM | Canadian hip-hop group The Dream Warriors - most famous for their track "My Definition of Boombastic Jazz Style" which sampled Quincy Jone's "Soul Bossa Nova" that later was used as the Austin Powers theme - have numerous pop-culture, sf, Star Wars, Star Trek, comic and fantasy references on their 1990 debut release "And Now the Legacy Begins" including a track entitled "Twelve-Sided Dice" all about D&D. |
| boozerker05-15-07, 09:00 AM | Michael Oliveri, author of Deadliest of the Species. |

| boozerker07-10-07, 12:03 AM | Guess no one else famous plays D&D. Or maybe they've kept quiet ;) |
| BEASTMAN_500007-10-07, 05:59 AM | Also I think from now on I'm just going to say Bump when I bump a thread. That little emoticon killed my parents. |
| The_Virus07-11-07, 08:23 AM | idk if it was already mentioned i don't care enough to read through all the pages, but Alice Cooper plays, or at least he acted like he played when he did a guest appearance on That 70's Show. Also, i bet George Lucas plays, but it's all Star Wars based.. |
| boozerker11-22-07, 11:17 PM | Guess no one else famous played (or they've stopped admitting it)? ;) |

| CosmicChaos11-23-07, 07:17 PM | Bruce Campbell for sure. I would be shocked if Sam Raimi (famous director) didn't play D&D. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell started the Evil Dead series. I could see Christina Applegate playing D&D in real life. She is an amazing actress and can switch between characters very fast. |

| RedWizard01-15-08, 07:58 PM | Obviously Rivers Cuomo from Weezer plays as he wrote about 12 sided dice and the Dungeon Masters guide in their song "In The Garage". He also likes reading comics like the X-Men. |
| Ariakus01-16-08, 08:47 AM | I remember seeing an interview with young, innocent Drew Barrymore where she mentioned playing D&D with Spielberg while filming "E.T.". I assume he DMed. :D I would think everyone on the set played at least once to get the D&D scene correct, even Henry Thomas who was not allowed in the game in the movie because he was too young...that movie came out the year before I began playing D&D :embarrass I read on one of the back posts that Robin Williams plays online...does this mean Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach? Or that he PbP or PBeM? |
| Kargush01-16-08, 09:59 AM | Dude! Dragonforce is like the most metal band ever! And suddenly I am confident that you know nothing of metal. Or music. Or the world. Seriously, if you're more than 14, stop using similar combinations of words. Back on topic, I'd love to play with Williams and Izzard. Would be a hoot. |
| RedWizard01-16-08, 12:51 PM | I'd love to play with Williams and Izzard. Would be a hoot. Who knows, maybe their listening. I wonder if they ever turn up at GenCon? |
| Ariakus01-16-08, 01:21 PM | I've been a huge fan of Robin Williams since Mork & Mindy, I watched it religiously when it was on and I followed his comedy since then, never missing anything I could watch. I didn't care about his old Cocaine problem, we all have problems. I'm glad to see he kicked it, but it has no merit on how I feel about him. I would love to meet him, let alone play D&D with him :) |
