I've started a campaign at level 1 with a DM who'se getting back into things. He's new to 3rd edition, and hasnt DMed in years. Well, our campaign is Forgotten Realms, and most of us are races with +2 or +3 level mods. So far most of what we've been doing is slaughtering Orcs and Goblins. We've managed to find:
+1 Studed leather Armor
a singing sword that gets +1 vs Orcs
A bastard sword that deals +3 damage all by itself, I think its called Blade of Roses or something
Blessed Bracers, that inable the wearer to cast Cure Moderate Wounds andResurection each once a day.
Two Ion stones, I dont know ether one's effect.

Just wondering if anyone else thought that these items at this point were a little insane.. One thing I think might be good about the Bracers is that if the DM makes a big mistake and something mauls one or more of us, we have an easy way to undo it.

Obviously, you're playing in a high-powered setting. I mean think about it. Most people start characters that are humans, elves, dwarves, etc and you're doing what hobgoblins, ogres, trolls, etc? So naturally, you're going to have more magic items.

It sounds like you might want to play another game if you're not into that kind of play.

The answer to your question is yes, it's too much for level one. But that doesn't mean it can't be fun. Personally, I wouldn't play in an overpowered game like that, but that's just me.

You may be "level 1", but if there was a human in your party, he should be level 4, with the ECL 3's in there, so the +1's are okay. Not sure about the Ioun Stones, but the other 2 are a little OTT.

It does seem a bit much, but if he's throwing hard stuff at your at the same time, its not bad. Both in the game that I play, and the game I run, I tend to be generous with MIs, and equally as generous with my monsters. They way I look at it is, it makes people feel good to have their badass characters, and I'm all about it, PLUS its more fun to see the look on their faces when a 12 hit dice zombie comes at them at level 3.

Since all your doing is turning orcs into pudding, yes, that is a bit extravagent. I don't care how magic heavy the realms are, that's Monty Haul-ism.

Definitely a Monty Hauler. I mean, Resurrection 1/day at 1st level? I doubt a DM who's new to 3E knows what LA are... and I won't even start on ECLs.

LA+HD=ECL

What is the problem?

Anyway, yeah the game is overpowered. That is unless the guy is going for a videogame feel and wants to give the group a "free life" once a day. A thing like that could let him do some interesting things to, uh, I mean with, a party.

Besides, it sounds like this campaign is just a beta testing for him to get the rules and balance straight.
