| Draco Strang01-30-05, 12:40 PM | Three Arrows for the King The Archer's Guide 3.5 Revision -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Written By: M Jason Parent & Neal Levin Page Count: 50 pages Cover Art by: Jason Chambers Illustrated by: Patrik Almquist, Tony Monorchio, Gillian Pearce & Christian Spalthoff Everything you need for archery in your fantasy d20 game can be found in this 50 page PDF. Not just a fighter variant, the archer surpasses even the fighter with the bow, but lags behind in melee combat. The archer class also easily handles crossbowmen, javelineers, and even those who would prefer to fight via a thrown knife in the back. This is the revised version of Three Arrows for the King, incorporating new material for the Archer-Ranger class to keep it in line with the 3.5 revised ranger class, as well as introducing a new Archer multi-class progression ('character build') for the Distant Killer, and Archer-Assassin-Sniper multiclass. In addition this edition includes minor errata and corrections and minor 3.5 revisions. The revised Archer class The revised Archer-Ranger variant class Character backgrounds Four multi-class paths including the Distant Killer 8 Prestige Classes 1 Legendary Class 27 Feats New archery equipment Larger and smaller bows Mightier than +4 strength composite bows New magic items A massive selection of magical bows and arrows The PDF edition of Three Arrows for the King comes with two editions of the product, one in colour with extensive bookmarks for screen use, and one in black & white with reduced header and footer graphics for easy printing without chewing through ink cartridges. Ok, that was taken from one of the pages of RPG Now. I'm not passing it off as my own, and I'm certainly not trying to advertise or anything. I looked at CoC, and don't think this counts as a promotion of anything. Thing is, I'm an archer fanboy, always have been. I've learned to shoot with a 90 pound composite bow (which took me years by the way, with a gradual progression from a 30lb, and some weight training as well to make up for not working on a farm all day) and do a lot of reading on the English/Welsh longbow, kind of a pet project of mine. Anyway, I stumbled across this pdf for sale, and was wondering if anyone could offer any input on whether it's balanced or not? It's only like 3 bucks, but before I blow the money (I am a poor college student) I was wondering if others had any prior experience with either the product or the publisher. Thanks. |
| Seeker9501-30-05, 06:20 PM | It is a great product. It's balance is fairly tight on the whole, although you will notice over-the-top elements in a few of the Feats and two of the Prestige Classes. I recommend it for a DM. If you permit non-core material in your game, about half of this will stack up as comparable in power. About a quarter of it is significantly more powerful than the majority of core material. And about a quarter of it is more flavor than power, making the selection of certain Feats (and three of the presetige classes) a matter of player concept. There are better choices unless the flavor is exactly what you want. If you are a player, I recommend this product for ideas mroe than anything else. Present any Feats you may like to your DM for approval. As a DM, I am not a fan of players asking for Prestige Classes they find. However, your DM may welcome the introduction of ideas. Just work together in re-fleshing out a Prestige Class you may like to get it to fit in your DM's game. |
| Draco Strang01-30-05, 06:58 PM | Oh, I'm the DM. It's a Forgotten Realms campaign, they're in Sembia working to destroy the Zhents/Church of Cyric in about 1369. What I want to do is make groups of mercenaries that are archers. The PCs wont have access to it, because they've not been trained by these mercs. And they won't get a chance to, really. It'll be mostly a flavor thing. Thanks. |
| Seeker9501-30-05, 08:35 PM | For the DM, this is the perfect resource for preparing organized opponents the PCs won't otherwise expect. I strongly recommend checking out the team fighting Feat, coupled with perfect shot. Nice and fairly balanced so your players don't cry foul. |
| John Q. Mayhem01-31-05, 09:12 AM | I second it. EN Publishing has generally good products, and M. Jason Parent is a solid designer. |
| Draco Strang01-31-05, 10:31 AM | I bought it, and I dig it. |
