a noob in need of help [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-26-06, 02:45 AM im new to the game of dnd and read the manual and it mantioned something about professions and i just couldent grasp what it was saying please help me out :weep:

Was he a cook? or a blacksmith?

Professions are just that, professions, if you put skill points into it, at least in my experience, they are just used for minor roleplaying aspects in the game, but they could be helpful (profession blacksmith for example could give a synergy to craft weaponsmithing, or at least thats how my group does it.)

Just kidding.

Professions are simply a skill. You make a check. Normally it will net you some money. Rarely it will do other things, like Profession (Sailor) will let you command a ship.

I honestly just wanted to say "lol, noob." Just because I am also tired from working the last few hours, and it being past midnight here.

You take the skill, then you choose a profession, such as profession (farmer). Though the only one realy useful to an adventurer is profession (sailor), which is all about running a ship, which may or may not be useful in your campiegn, depending on weather the DM actually has you using boats.
