Another thread asked if it would be ok to allow All ToB classes to access all disciplines. My first thought was "well, I am not sure if they considered how class A would work with unrestricted access to discipline X." That got me thinking about the game as a whole. I find that most supplimental material is balanced when combined with the core rules. The major problems occur when you combine supplimental material with other supplimental material. Let me give a common example: Divine Metamagic (complete divine) works fine when used with any of the core metamagic feats. I have never heard a complaint about a Divinely metamagicked maximized spell. Peristant spell (complete arcane) works fine with core spells. You can only persist spells of up to 3rd level (6 level bump and all) so even a persisted haste wouldn't be a problem since you would be burning a 9th level spell to use it. Now, when you use DMM and persistant spell it brings up all sorts of problems. DMM doesn't increase the spells effective level so you could, provided you have enough turn attempts, persist a 9th level spell. I certainly don't think this was in the intent of either feats author. Yes by RAW it works but I don't think that it was seriously considered by the designers nor do I think it is their responsibility to consider every available combination as that falls to the DM to do. Anyone else agree/disagree on any of this? |

As for me i am very much against Divine metamagic, since it in my opinion i a bit on the owerpowered side, but that is only my opinion any one is intitled to theirs, and i would not allow it in one of my games. just remember that even persistent spells can be dispelled, and a lich with a good horde of undead minions could make the cleric regret using his turning attemps for DMM. |
