i'm posting this in the hope that someone can clear this up.

Q1, what is the encounter level of three 7th level creatures? (the creature is a PC race with 7 levels of fighter.)

Q2, as a DM would you put the above encounter against one 8th level character with 55 hp?

i faced this in my last game. i have 5 hp left. some how i have to get off the top a single story house surrounded by 60 level 7 npc's and then run though another 70 level 7 npc's to meet up with the rest of the group. i have no way to heal myself.

Q3, how long do you think i'll last?

1) Around 10th
2) No
3) Surrender seems your best option

Wow! Either your DM is really cruel, you guys made some really bad choices...

Q1. Your group is between EL 9 and EL11 but you really aren't EL 10, as your group doesn't comply with the math it takes. If your DM's making a campaign worth while for a lvl 7 party, then you really should be up against 3 CR 7 encounters as there are 3 of you. It gets od to plan with more than 4, but you don't have that..

Q2. That all depends on what you guys did to get him/her to be an encounter. If it was a role-playing issue or bad choice by players, yes I would. If it's the DM just out of ideas, then no.

Q3. Now this is pretty complex. I'll need more info on the EXACT situation is for you, and I could come up with a few ideas to extend your life. However, I do note that you don't state your class/skills/feats/items left, or the NPC's apparent classes/visible items/status (sleeping/ alert/ dead)/feelings toward you...

Good luck either way!

1) Around 10th
2) No
3) Surrender seems your best option Escef is entirely correct (table 3-1 in the DMG gives you the answer to your first question).

I have to wonder though, how did you get that info? As a DM, I don't give my players any mechanical info about the NPCs they meet.

You read it backwards, Melp.

The PC in this case was a single lvl 8 PC who was jumped by three lvl 7 NPCs on a roof, and is now asked to run a gauntlet of 130 more lvl 7 npcs to rejoin his group.

Personally, I'd like to hear exactly what the details of this mess are. And the DMs explanation for how anyone managed to gather together over 100 lvl 7 npcs to angry mob a house.

Although, if 3 of this clone army managed to drop you 50hp, I'd give the other 60 or so 1 round.

Well, look at that! Yup, after re-reading, I feel like a fool. But I think my general idea still stands to his questions, it's all a matter of decision making, but we don't have the backstory. Oh well, thanks for pointing that out.

10 sounds about right.

Only if I hated the player with the fury of a thousand suns. Or if he drank the last soda. But those are basically the same thing.

1 round, because coup-de-grace'ing yourself requires a full round action.

EL 10 for 4 players but i was in the house with the 3 Naga on my own. that would make it around EL 40 ish.

and the 130 other Naga are around 800+ EL for one person.

the best way to work this out is to time the EL by 4.

how did i get the info? i asked. then read the stats for the Naga.

Wait a sec... at the top you said they were a PC race with 7 levels. Now they're naga? :uh-huh: Are there seven levels on top of that? Or did you just use a seventh level character as an "easy" way to say a CR7 creature.

Encounter Calculator puts 3 CR 7 critters vs 1 Level 8 PC at CR10.2 - a "deadly" rating, by the way.

Your seems to have a serious hate on you at the moment. I'd call him on the 100+ 7th level NPCs in one place all at once before your next game and ask him what in zarking fardwarks is he trying to do.

Barring deus ex machina, you have exactly 1 round left to live... :(

That's what I want to know. Big difference, though the end result the same. The PC is :censored: 'd.

EL doesn't multiply, it's already a geometric progression. Every 2 points of EL is a 100% increase in power.

A 'balanced' encounter for a single lvl 8 PC is EL 4.

A 'balanced' encounter for any party is their EL - 4.

So a party of 4 8th level PCs is an EL 12. So a balanced encounter for them is, coincidentally, EL 8.

An encounter of the Party's EL is a 50/50 fight provided the PCs are full up.
Anything higher and the DM is either not paying attention or trying to kill you.
So your EL 8 vs. their EL 10 is a miracle you survived.

the Naga are are PC race. they have ECL +1 and 6 levels of fighter, sorry if you did not get what i was trying to say. CR7 would have been clear from the start.

i can't wait to see what happen's to my character next week. i hope the GM is not going to wimp out on me and let me live without a fight. :D
