Hi all,

I'm not sure which forum would be best for this topic, so I just posted it here.

I am letting a player plan a PC that is a barbarian/cleric mix with the strength and destruction domains. I know these domains normally don't mix, but he is a non-affiliated cleric who revels in smashing.

Anyway, are the bonuses from the strength domain enhancement bonuses? For instance, I'm sure the PC can't "Bull's Strength" and use the Strength domain ability together -- but can he do the following legally?

Let's assume he's a 1st lvl Barbarian and a 9th lvl Cleric. Depending on what type of actions are required to activate these abilities, can the PC use the following abilities and have the effects stack?

Strength domain +9 STR
Enlarge Person +2 Str
Rage +4 STR
Destruction domain +4 Hit/+9 Dmg

Also, what type of action is required to activate these abilities? Are they free actions?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the type of bonus.

Strength domain gives an enhancement bonus.
Enlarge person gives a size bonus
Rage is an unnamed bonus
Destruction is unnamed

So they can all stack. I think- I forget if unnamed bonuses stack, but I'm pretty sure they do.

Strength domain is free action
Enlarge is a spell
"Entering a rage takes no time itself"
Destruction domain is part of an attack

I have my own question about bonus stacking through feats. I have a fighter in my group (I'm a very new DM) who has taken monkey grip, and all the two weapon fighting fighting feats (Including Ambidexterity) and now has taken the oversized weapon feat. Since he has oversized weapon it treats a great sword as one size smaller and monkey grip makes him able to treat a medium weapon as a light weapon. Can he then legitimately wield a greatsword in each hand and treat the offhand as a light weapon?

Unnamed bonuses from different sources stack. If the same source (the same spell, regardless of caster, for example) gave a bonus (or penalty) twice, only the larger of the two would be noticable.

Ambidexterity does not exist in 3.5, as near as I can guess, you're using 3.0 rules and mixing in a few 3.5 as well (which isn't too bad). If he has a feat that lets him one-hand a greatsword then he can weild one in each hand. If he has over-sized two weapon fighting, he gets to treat his off-hand weapon as light for purposes of assigning penalties due to two weapon fighting. All other penalties still apply as normal.

Thanks. That's how I was lookin' at it as well, but I thought I'd better double-check.

LOL - yeah, some guys I gamed with a couple of summers ago at Miami U. in Oxford, OH [not Florida ;)] introduced this concept to me...

They called it "Smashdor"

Ya, I as a DM, would have no issue with him doing it, but what a waste. He would have to burn all those feats and attack when he can just get power attack and be a barb. Seems to ruin some of the versatility that is a Fighter just burning his feats on damage output.

Perhaps he's just doing it for image? Fighters have feats to burn, after all. I've thought about putting together a character that dual weilds size large bastard swords. Yes, between two-weapon weapon fighting, over-sized two-weapon fighting, and monkey grip, he takes -4 to each attack roll; but it creates a nifty image.

I recently tried a build like that, one handing a greatsword and a longsword (with Monkey Grip but without Oversized 2WF) and I just decided it wasn't worth it.

Another awesome image though is one handing a Large sized maul. Monkey Grip combined with the Balanced ability (+2 bonus) from Arms and Equipment. A -2 penalty isn't so bad as a -4 for each hand. Especially if you're going for image.

Well, if you put it that way, I am all for it then. If you want to do it for roleplaying purposes, well, it just rocks. I stand corrected.
