| Tommy_Greasegrin03-08-08, 03:19 PM | So I am creating a campaign for a few friends who are fairly new to the game. I am breaking away from my habits of city settings and moving to a different continent of my making. There will be no humans, and if there are they are primitive, or no more advanced than the Aztecs. The majority of the island will be of the three variations of lizardfolk with a tribe of altered ogres, a Gith war going on in the northern portion, and a hive of thoon 'flayers for good measure. I know where I need the main story to go. After the screw around a bit at home they will hop a ship and go to the new island, followed by supplies sent by a near epic character. They will have to clear an area to start building their keep, survive until more supplies and people arrive, then have their way with the island and all its inhabitants as they will. They will end up with all the necessary supplies to create magic items and such when their reinforcments arrive, yet I am at a loss. Is there anything else I am overlooking? I am trying to give them freedom without the power to become gods dangling in front of their eyes. I got the setting and a few characters, but I feel as if I am forgetting something very important. |

If the PCs hear rumors of a war they should deal with refugees (peaceful and otherwise) in a few sessions. How do all the other major players respond? If there's a war between two parties it means their other borders are less secure. Are there raids? Do allies watch their flanks? And what do these established powers do when they find out about interlopers from distant lands? Befriend? Attack? Trade? Ignore? |

And what do these established powers do when they find out about interlopers from distant lands? Befriend? Attack? Trade? Ignore? I already got it pretty well leveled in my head as to how things will react and how they already interact. Despite being monsters the lizard folk will seek to befriend them due to a legend of theirs, how a human once rode a dragon, which in turn saved their land from sinking into the ocean, but ended up killing off the rest of the humans on that island. The war is more of a conflict between a few hundred Githzerai and Githyanki slave masters, so there won't be many refugees. Remember, I am giving them a new continent to explore and there is very little that is settled. They will have allies to help them out, scouts of the poison dusk variety, and maybe a few shaman to heal them if conflict comes to them. I really am looking more for them to dungeon crawl between expansions of their base of operations. Eventually I am going to have flayers come in in slight numbers, but more as they capture humans and lizards alike to make into thoon infiltrators. |

| Tommy_Greasegrin03-08-08, 06:59 PM | What? How does high end math come into the picture? The humans were wiped off that continent because I want to see how the players will interact with monsterous races as opposed to something they know and trust. |

I think it was a reference to the Aztecs - you mentioned that the surviving humans were "no more advanced than the Aztecs." |
| pigknight03-08-08, 07:37 PM | I was reffering to Aztecs. |
| Tommy_Greasegrin03-08-08, 08:54 PM | Ah, perhaps I should clarify. There is the typical human run setting where everyone starts. Wizards, artificers, and all the normal things we see as part of many fantasy settings. What I meant however is that the surviving humans on the new place they shall be traveling to will be very different. Stone (with a little of copper and a bit of iron if they are lucky) will be the common materials for the humans. There will be very little armor aside from hide and leather. Hope that makes more sense. |
