A Smartass Player [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-11-06, 11:14 AM I hate to say this, but I am a smartass player. I always correct the DM and then get punished for it. I am constantly bustin everyone elses chaps for everything. I mean good golly gee wilakers, we had a cleric that would not heal! Then all but one of us died. Then I hold grudges and never let up on them. Anyone else like this or does no one else want to admit it?

04-11-06, 11:20 AM Well, confession is "good for the soul," but only if it brings about change. Otherwise, it's a futile exercise ;)

I like a little bit of sarcasm, but only if it doesn't detract from the game or interfere with other people's enjoyment of the game. If there is an issue like a cleric who wouldn't heal, I think a less sarcastic and genuine discussion would bring about more positive results.

04-11-06, 11:31 AM Well another time I was a smartass to the DM when a friend of mine casted grease on the skeletons chasing me around the campfire. Then I noticed I was on fire for the next three rounds. After beinf on fire I was away from the fight and I wanted to shoot somone with my X-bow and the DM said "You notice all of your equipment even your clothes are scorched and burned to rubble." I was like "You *******!" Turns out that I did this to myself when I said "Atleast my equipment is inulnerable to flames(In a sarcstijc voice to the DM)"

04-11-06, 01:52 PM I smartmouth the DM when it's my friend, because even though he manages to fit in a nice storyline and fights, I get sick and tired of encountering hillbilly camps, brainless guards that say "LET'S SLASH AROUND RELENTLESSLY!" (While my character was annoying them while invisible) and awkward NPC wizard gnomes that beat the stuffing out of foes too hard for the party wu jen (In front of our faces while bragging over it).

I smartmouthed another player when I joined another group. This player was a stereotypical shame. Overweight, facial hair, way too long hair in a ponytail, and awkward acts towards another player. Not to forget mentioning he tried to correct me every freaking time I made a little mistake while roleplaying. (Should've stabbed his character to the ninth layer of hell. Oh wait, that'd have been out of character. Psah.)

04-11-06, 02:13 PM On the rare occasion that I play that way (I am a DM, so I know the value of maintaining group unity out of game), I respond appropriately when someone calls me on it. I clean up my act and try to figure out what set me off as a jerk.

Behaving like an ass is correctable.
Being an ass is not.

If you are the former, you can change your behavior and return to my group.
If you are the latter, you will be shown the door.
