| The Vanguard07-05-04, 05:53 PM | Hi there is another D&D setting that I would like to do it's a Steampunk\Victorian with some FR like Fantasy touches, you see this setting has Two set of Gods and Goddess the old and new. The Old Gods and Goddess which is led by the Goddess of Magic is simlar in layout in feel to Forgotten Realm Deities, there of the old ways. The New Gods and Goddess are for Science led by the Clockwork Goddess a Human construct that first gain Human like intellgence then divinity, the rest of her fellow Deities are divine by there own hand. |
| Grayson07-05-04, 07:52 PM | Ok.. |
| The Vanguard07-05-04, 08:19 PM | Well I need to know what source book would I need to create this world?, |
| Vix Damnul07-06-04, 12:37 AM | DMG, in the chapter on campaign settings, look under the sections on differing levels of technology, improvise from there. I've heard about a few clockwork/steamtech books out, mixed reactions, but as i've never seen one myself, i'll only refer you to what i have seen. |
| Tanuki, the Bewildered07-06-04, 01:08 AM | Fantasty Flight Games has a suppliment called Sorcery & Steam which might, at least, give you some ideas. |
| WhtKnt07-06-04, 03:24 PM | In working on my own campaign of the same nature, I've found the following resources helpful: Sorcery and Steam (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/dd40.html) (Fantasy Flight Games) Space: 1889 (http://www.heliograph.com/space1889/) (Heliograph, Inc.) GURPS Steampunk (http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/books/steampunk/) (Steve Jackson Games) GURPS Steam-Tech (http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/books/steamtech/) (Steve Jackson Games) GURPS Castle Falkenstein (http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/books/castlefalkenstein/) (Steve Jackson Games) Castle Falkenstein (http://www.talsorian.com/cfindex.shtml) (R. Talsorian Games) Victoriana (http://www.heresy-gaming.co.uk/victoriana.html) (Heresy Gaming) Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (http://www.rpgplanet.com/arcanum/) (computer game from Troika/Sierra) Note that, aside from Sorcery and Steam, none of these are d20 System games. I've been using them to usurp ideas, not converting them slavishly. |
| Sarig the Genie07-06-04, 03:37 PM | I've been doing research in Arcanum for years myself (; (seriously, it's the best game I've played, and it has a really interesting wiev of tech and magick) |
| The Vanguard07-06-04, 04:14 PM | I took from Arcanum how Magic and Science couldn't work together, I mean when a wizard's cast's a spell steam machine ususally explode like an engine. This cause and effect between Magic and Science is due to the Two Patheons fighting over this world, I should say that the Old Patheon is losing due to the simple fact that they refuse to move with the times. |
| Joni-san07-06-04, 07:20 PM | You might be interested in OGL Steampunk (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/detail.php?qsID=353&qsSeries=) by Mongoose (then again, you might not). You could also look at Iron Kingdoms (http://www.privateerpress.com/IRONKINGDOMS/) by Privateer Press, but IK might not be the thing you are looking for if I'm interpeting what you are writing right. I've played Arcanum and I have to say it's one of the most interesting games I've played. And I'd like to mention I've chatted with one of the developers (She also worked at Blizzard at one point [Starcraft was one of the games she worked on] and she also worked on the original Fallout IIRC) |
| The Vanguard07-06-04, 08:51 PM | Yes I know about OGL Steampunk which I'm waiting for, and also I know about Iron Kingdoms that a wonderfull setting for Steampunk. But my setting timeframe is around late 1860's to early 1870's, now in this setting the English are Huimans, French are Elves, and the Germans are Humans who are Human elitests nd detest other Races. For eaxmple the French like High Elves there court is like that before the French Revolt, There King is considered the Elven Sun King. There Army is official staffed by the Musketers, with some High Elven Mages sprinkled among the armed Elves. The world's Ireland is the bastion of the Humans and Silver Elves who follow the old Patheon and ways, such as Magic. |
| The Vanguard07-13-04, 05:14 AM | Joni-San you said that you have contacted that female developer of Arcanum, well can you put me in touch with her please. I would really like to pick her brains on the subject of the Steam-Punk Victorian setting, |
