Someone else had to show me how to play… And that was an AGE ago, 1st edition. I can see how things would be confusing trying to jump into 3.5 now.

The trick is to learn one concept at a time; I would suggest learning combat first, as most of the non-combat rules can be played out through RP anyway until you have a stronger grasp on how the game works. Learn the basics, such as rounds, turns, saves, etc… Don’t worry about the “advanced” concepts, such as partial moves and attacks of opportunity until you have the first blocks in place within your mind.

Again, I cannot tell you how much it helps to have someone else walk you through it. You pick up on the “rhythm” of things.

No, do NOT learn combat first!

Learn your character first. Learn what all the numbers mean, and what is good and what is bad on your character sheet, special abilities etc., THEN learn combat.

Actually now that I think about it, you should probably learn the dice first. That may be the most important thing.

Well, yeah. I had assumed he had already learned all that and was asking about actually running the game. If not, THAT would be the first place to start for sure.
