otakutaylor 07-15-07, 06:33 PM	The Authors, creators of the worlds, masters of all that exists in the universe. These beings created everything we know. The events that take place, the people who are born, the gods that rule over these worlds, the inner workings of both the arcane and the divine. They have created it all. It is by their whims how the worlds work, but it is also by their whim that I too exist. The Authors have created many worlds, of which I’ve only learned of a few. But they have a plan for the worlds which neither me nor my kind can understand. For their worlds are rife with goodness and evil, joy and terror. It seems they feel that no one’s life is truly fulfilled without conflict. They set into motion some of the greatest schemes I could have possibly imagined and though I applaud them for the sheer amount of detail they weave into the worlds I cannot stand idly by and simply watch the events come to pass. The Authors, the wizards on the true edges of the world as my kind have named them; have granted our kind a power too. For while they shape every facet of the worlds, they grant us the ability to make our own adjustments. Our powers pale in comparison, it takes us a great deal of time and energy to re-write their story in even the slightest fashion. But they do not allow us to make too significant a change, I know, I have tried. Our powers let us see past, present, and future, and with that power I witnessed a horrible travesty that would come to pass in a realm I watch over. I tried to stop it, to write out the evil within in. But the Authors saw fit to unravel that story, to un-make my changes, and replace it with something even worse than I had tried to stop. On the same page, not all of my kind are benevolent, some wish to turn the world more evil, to cause terror, strife, and horrible atrocities, but the Authors re-write that too. My kind are given the ability to watch the events, to see, learn, and predict the out-comes. But are given little means to directly change it. Much of my time is spent reading, re-reading, and predicting the outcomes of specific minor changes, to find some way to turn the worlds for the better. I have found a way. Although it may just be the Authors wrote that I would. In every world they create there are creatures, which seem destined for greatness, to gain incredible power on both ends of the spectrum. From the greatest of Paladins to the strongest of Necromancers. Though these are terms from the worlds I can watch. These people who have true power, who have the real strength of character, have the means to save their worlds, or doom them. They need but a push. Some of my kind have spent time and energy to set into course the events needed to save these worlds. For some reason, the Authors accept this, they allow us to exert the slightest bit of control over a few creatures’ lives, and their actions are not re-written. Through them we can change the worlds the Authors create, though often it is at a price to them. For the greater good, or the darker evil our kind influence these few souls in each world, to grow in power to rival the gods of their own realms. The Authors have granted names to those like me, who attempt to change their worlds, as well as those we use to make such changes. I am a Dungeon Master and those I lead are my Players. Through them I save their world, I set them against their enemies, which left alone would cause such grand evil, I could not live with myself to witness as it comes to pass. But they are not invincible; it takes much energy, time, and guidance to bring out the powers they can achieve. I alone am not enough, there are Dungeon Masters like me, who have Players of their own to save the world in areas I have no sway in, but for every one who works toward the good of the world, there is one who works for evil. It is a constant struggle that the Authors seem to enjoy. Perhaps it is their plan that my kind exists, their goal to let the worlds they created watched over by we Dungeon Masters, changed by our Players. Their plan or not I will continue my job, my duty, my responsibility to these worlds I watch over. Just a funny way of looking at what it is to be a DM, a Player, and one of the Creators of the game of DnD

No disrespect to the fine people who designed 3.0 and 3.5 but I am the creator of my games. I use the 3.5 rules set because it is a good system, but I still make my own adjustments to it.

Or, based on this concept, that is what The Authors allow you to believe. :P Gotta get into the mood of the concept my friend. :D
otakutaylor 07-16-07, 03:49 AM	Of course, nothing against those of us who write our own worlds ( I've done it as well) but writing the world and DMing are very different experiences, hehe.
