| pectus_umbra09-02-07, 06:07 PM | I have an unclassified pair of questions. 1.Once 4th hits the market, will they continue printing 3.5 for any periond of time,or will it be dead? 2.When 3.5 "dies," (nothing more will ever be done with it.) will it be legal to post things from the 3.5 books? Right now you can't mention stuff straight from the book, because those books are still in print. But once they fall out of print, the information should be allowed to spread through the net. If someone could tell me about this, it would be great. Thanks in advance. |

After 4e core comes out, they'll start working on 4e splatbooks. 2.When 3.5 "dies," (nothing more will ever be done with it.) will it be legal to post things from the 3.5 books? Posting anything much longer, or for the purpose of distributing it to others, gets into copyright law. Because of copyright law, we can't distribute things to others until the copyright runs out, which will be in over 70 years if they renew it (and they will). |
| fatal error09-02-07, 11:52 PM | Woops. Misread the post. No, WotC will still have a copyright on the 3.5 texts, and you won't be posting them legally word by word for some time. |
| pectus_umbra09-03-07, 11:50 AM | Man that sucks. Well, does anyone know if 3rd books will rise or fall after 4th is released? I mean, supply will become finite, but demand will probably drop as well. Any thoughts? |
| Ebonarc09-03-07, 11:52 AM | Prices will drop. Unless the book in question could be a collector's item, in which case it will appreciate in value. |
| bonethug010809-03-07, 03:03 PM | In the short term they will likely drop, but over time they will become collecter's items. I haven't really thought about it but it might be a good investment.;) |
| Sarrazon09-03-07, 03:25 PM | Hmm. Yeah, especially those collectors edition PHBs. |
| Escef09-03-07, 06:18 PM | In the short term they will likely drop, but over time they will become collecter's items. I haven't really thought about it but it might be a good investment.;) Poor investment. Given that even today one can pick up 1e books for $10-$15 a pop (the most expensive I've seen were a mint copy of 1e Oriental Adventures and early printings of Dieties & Demigods), I doubt that 3e/3.5 books (of which more were likely printed) will have much collector value. Hmm. Yeah, especially those collectors edition PHBs. Those might actually maintain most, if not all, their retail value. As to their ever gaining value, who knows? |
| Firestar2709-03-07, 08:12 PM | Will we be allowed to post about 3.5 on the forums after 4e comes? Will there be a 3.x board or will all of these sections go into a 3e section (but keeping each of these subsections intact)? |
| Escef09-04-07, 01:30 AM | Will we be allowed to post about 3.5 on the forums after 4e comes? Will there be a 3.x board or will all of these sections go into a 3e section (but keeping each of these subsections intact)? There is an "Out of Print" section on the boards. I wonder what all the 3e haters in there will think when they get flooded with 3e/3.5 threads? |

| Man in the Funny Hat09-04-07, 10:32 AM | 1.Once 4th hits the market, will they continue printing 3.5 for any periond of time,or will it be dead?AFAIK, it will cease publication and get no further support from WotC. 2.When 3.5 "dies," (nothing more will ever be done with it.) will it be legal to post things from the 3.5 books? Right now you can't mention stuff straight from the book, because those books are still in print. But once they fall out of print, the information should be allowed to spread through the net.The OGL will still be in effect, the SRD will still be available, and nothing will prevent anyone from doing anything with it that they can do with it right now. Some publishers will likely still produce 3.5 products. But it won't become Public Domain. |
| Malraux09-04-07, 12:36 PM | Poor investment. Given that even today one can pick up 1e books for $10-$15 a pop (the most expensive I've seen were a mint copy of 1e Oriental Adventures and early printings of Dieties & Demigods), I doubt that 3e/3.5 books (of which more were likely printed) will have much collector value. From what I've seen, old adventures hold their value. ToEE goes for 40-50, for example. The most valuable one I've seen is Chaosium's Beyond the Mountains of Madness, which goes for ~120. It makes sense in a way, because adventure modules sell few prints, and tend to get messed up in play. Plus, the adventure is what players remember far more than the odd source book. Based on that, I expect that Red Hand of Doom will end up being relatively valuable in a few years. RttToEE is already selling at 60+. |
| pectus_umbra09-04-07, 04:51 PM | Okay then. To be specific, I never picked up complete arcane. So I was thinking I could pick it up cheap right before or after 4e, along with some other extra source books, (Libris mortis and player's handbook II. The big question is, am I right? |

I guess that's true for the most part, but if you have a book that is mint condition and a collector that is looking for a mint condition book and not just a book, then you may get more than you bought it for once it goes out of print. I guess I should have added that in my statement. If you buy something to sell it later, you should always keep it in mint condition. |

I would say so. The prices should drop (though not that noticeably at first) after the release of 4e. |
| zvbxrpl09-05-07, 12:37 PM | Also, a lot of FLGSes I know have 'used rulebook' sections where some 3.0 books have already shown up. A lot of 3.5 books will be availible for cheap there. |
