This is going to really seem like a silly question but what is the definition of a Supplement vs that of an Accessory?

When in the store the other day I seem to recall seeing that the MM2 and MM3 were different. One was a Supplement and the other an Accessory.

Thanks

A supplement is a pill taken to boost something you're lacking in. An accessory is a term for jewelery, or some other item of decoration to enhance appearance.

In all seriousness, as far as the books go, there's no real difference. Save, maybe, that "supplement" implies necessity, as in "you need this to have the complete rules", while "accessory" implies a bonus, as in "you don't need this, but it's nifty".

The only difference is the spelling.
Edit: And, according to Charles (see below), future application of the terms. :D

The two terms have been used kind of haphazardly in the past, so the following definition won't help much with older products. Recently, however, and going forward, we're using this definition:

An accessory is something you use to make game play easier, but which doesn't really expand the scope of D&D. DM screens, character sheets, and adventures are examples of accessories.

Supplements expand the game; they contain rules or other content that broaden the scope of D&D. Almost all of our books are supplements.

Hope that clears things up a bit!

Nifty, I was almost-kinda-sorta close with my guesses.
