Tarrasque vs The Cthhulu.

Who wins?Hmmm... lets see, something every 1st level munchkin claims to be able to kill (generally because their DMs are braindead), versus the elder god himself, the mear sight of whom is enough to drive your very soul insane?

Ctuhlu would have to expectorate hardly in order to kill the tarrasque and destroy it's soul, and probably also erase every memory of it from the minds of everyone in the universe. But then, can gods expectorate?(Or is it even a word?; my english is bad sometimes).
And yes, the Koga talked about himself in first person! Yay!!

hmm, a fantastic, yet definitely MORTAL creature vs. a god?

Um...do I really need to answer?

Well, if the Tarrasque was lucky, C'thul'hu might accept it as a worshipper--and eat it last!

Maybe.

And the Koga has always referred to the Koga in such fashion. Even in the pages of DRAGON.

@Edymnion: Just a nitpick, Cthulhu isn't an Elder God, he's a Great Old One (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Old_One) - he's also actually the high priest of Azathoth, if I recall correctly, who IS an Elder God.

But yeah, Big T don't have much of a chance.

The Tarrasque and here is why.

I can't spell Cthulllu.

Beyond that Cathulu is the goth kid of the gods. You know what I mean. He's all brooding and creepy and thinks he's tough, but all the other gods basically ignore him because he really doesn't do anything except right bad poetry and sit in the corner writing and muttering useless junk. Until dodgeball, that is, when he gets pegged unmercifully.

I personally think the Tarrasque is doing the pegging. He's not even a god, but they invite him anyway just to see him knock a sweet shock off of Cathuloo's head.

MAYBE Cithoolu will show up to the godhood reunion one day all cleaned up with a good job, sweet ride and fine wife, but until I see it, I'm backing Destructo 3,000.

Mightly Yours,

..............okay, in just about any fight involving the great and mighty Tarr I would say he wins... but ummmmm... no... He wouldn't even come close to winning this battle. Cthulu would just look at him, yawn, and end of story. I don't think he'd destroy him though. The Tarr would be a good weapon to send into the world to terrorize the citizens of the mortal realms. If nothing else it would divert attention while his other minions started working up their master schemes in other regions.

That's kind of like comparing a 20th level cleric to the god he worships.
Cthulhu is supposed to be the deep dark secret of how the universe actually works; more idea than creature. Comparing the tarrasque to Cthulhu is like comparing Freddy Krueger to the entire movie industry.

There's no question here.

Cthulhu doesn't even care if the Tarrasque exists.

Anybody who's actually READ Lovecraft understands that even the Tarrasque is nothing more than a speck to be ignored by Cthulhu. If the Tarrasque is lucky, Cthulhu might look at his heel to see what he accidentally stepped on. But probably he wouldn't even bother to notice.

You have to understand the fundamental difference here.

The Tarrasque is this big nuisance that sleeps for a long time, then shows up and tears everything up Godzilla-style, then wanders off when he's not hungry anymore.

Cthulhu, on the other hand, is disregard in god form. He is the epitome of power without remorse or regard. Like many of Lovecraft and Co.'s creations, he is the stark apathy of the Universe, personified.

The Tarrasque's regeneration and immunities mean even less to Cthulhu than the Tarrasque itself.

Think of Cthulhu as the ultimate "cool dude." He doesn't care if you're a spaz. He doesn't even care enough to slap you one and call you a spaz. He simply can't be bothered.

Okay, so Cthulhu gets the chicks. But how does that let him win the cage match?

Someone should pull up the old Cthulhu write-up in Dieties & Demigods (or is there a newer version?), do an update, and see.

Did you even read the rest of my post?

Cthulhu doesn't even acknowledge the Tarrasque's existence. He could ignore the thing to death, it's so trivial to him. You don't need stats to know that. Cthulhu is a destroyer of worlds and a literary figure. The Tarrasque is a badly-adapted, misspelled French myth of a female dragon, wearing Godzilla drag and eating the cows out of villages.

If you had actually read Call of Cthulhu, you'd have known he's the high priest of the Great Old Ones, like Edymnion said, and isn't even close to a God. Powerful beyond mortal ken, sure, but he's an absolute speck, to borrow your metaphor, compared to the likes of Azathoth or Nyarlathotep.

If you're going to act like a fanboy, at least get the details right.

It doesn't matter how he compares to the Elder Gods. It only matters how he compares to the Tarrasque, or did you (INTENTIONALLY) miss that part of the conversation so you could be rude about something?

And any way, people worship him. They call on him. He's gigantic and powerful. God enough from my perspective. And more than one character in those stories refers to him as a god, whether he is or not. I've read enough of them to know that.

I don't see the arguement here. The Tarrasque, who's stats are listed in the Monster Manuel and have been forever, versus Cthulhu, a creature of such immense power that its stats aren't listed, you just lose. Seeing as the Tarrasque could be beaten by a level 20 party of adventurers, has no amount of intelligence that would actually help it in a fight, and is just a giant ball of HP, it doesn't really stand a chance to a creature so powerful that it just wins by default, no dice rolling, no nothing. Also, if you want to look further back, the Tarrasque was supposedly a dragon killed by a mere man, while Cthulhu (While I admit I am not a reader) is an undefeated being of true horror, then even that says who wins.

P.S. Nice to see you again the Koga, it's been a while since I've seen you post.

I'm going to have to go with Cthulhu on this one. Why? Simple, in every Lovecraft story I've read involving him (I say "him," but perhaps "it" might be a better word), the heroes are attempting to stave off his eventual awakening. They know they can't destroy him, so they just want to make sure he keeps slumbering. In DnD, the heroes can destroy the Tarrasque. Its a case of "make sure he doesn't awaken from his entombment at R'Lyeh (spelled right? or the right place for that matter? Its been awhile)" versus "well, he might wake up, but we know how to kill him."

This breaks down to a battle of stats, strictly speaking. Why? Because, when d20 CoC came out, there was an article on the D&D website (good luck finding it now... I suggest google with very specific parameters, or maybe the Way Back Machine). It talked about a 20th-level party of four D&D adventurers fighting Cthulhu as statted up for the game. Every time one would fall, another would replace him in the next round. To defeat Cthulhu, the party had to burn through 18 characters. The Tarrasque can probably be taken out by a bunch of 20th-level guys with 1 or 2 deaths at most, if not none.

So, based on that, Cthulhu is definitely a much higher challenge.

If you had actually read Call of Cthulhu, you'd have known he's the high priest of the Great Old Ones, like Edymnion said, and isn't even close to a God.Um? Actually, that's me you're quoting, not Edy... Edy said he was an Elder God, and I corrected him by saying he was the high priest. :(

---

Also, after going home and consulting the CoC d20 book (which has stats in the back of it for ALL of the great old ones, elder gods, et al, in the format of D&DG - it gives you them in case you wanna incorporate into D&D), I actually have change my opinion.

If we're talking the statted official d20 CoC Cthulhu vs. the Tarrasque, then after looking at their stats and abilities, I'd say it's a fairly even match. Cthulhu technically has no way to kill the Tarrasque. He's DvR 0, and doesn't have access to the Alter Reality SDA or wish or miracle. When comparing their stats, in a straight thwomping match, the Tarrasque stands a chance of beating Cthulhu after a long, drawn-out battle.

If however, we're talking about the Cthulhu from H.P. Lovecraft - the real Cthulhu, from the stories - then I stand by my original opinion that the Big T wouldn't know what hit him.
