| druidicdragonhunter_21403-31-07, 06:31 PM | This is my first actual D&D campaign in who knows how long. Im a little rusty, but two friends, my wife, and myself are having a lot of fun learning the ropes with this fun campaign. My wife didnt want to have a character at first and just helped me control the monsters. Since I only had two players, each having only played D&D once before, I rolled up two characters for myself. Im also teaching my wife how to DM so I wont have a complete advantage over the others. I am trying to keep things as fair and fun as possible. Okay, now onto the adventure! My group now consists of: Player Character Class Level James Seto Ranger 1 Stephanie Celeste Druid 1 Jordan(me) Ravendust Wizard 1 (me again) Shadowblade Rouge 1 Somehow we all ended up being elven  |
| druidicdragonhunter_21403-31-07, 06:54 PM | Today we began the Age of Worms campaign. Here is some of our characters back stories. Seto was the son of an outcast farmer. His real heritage was kept secret until the day his father left him. Everyday of his youth, he would toil until the farmwork was done. Then his father would take him out into the hills, swamps, and woodlands, showing him which plants were good to eat and how to follow game. His favorite days involved archery lessons. Seto had always felt a connection to the bow and his father encouraged it, saying that it was part of his lineage. Later Seto learned the art of swordplay and the arts of stealth. He was becoming of age and his father knew that the day would have to come soon. One day he took young Seto out to a distant forest and explained to him the conditions that had led him to where they had come in life. It was difficult for his father, but Seto learned of his noble ties and how his father was exiled for the murder of a rival noble with too much ambition. His father told Seto of his pride and his love for his son, and that he needed to return alone to his king to atone for what had happened. "One day Seto, you will have a home to come home to," his father said to him, "but for now you will have to return to that wretched Diamond Lake. Do yourself a favor and do not stay there long. Goodbye my son." Seto returned grieving, but eventually moved on, becoming a scout for the local garrison. Spending his days in seclusion and patrolling for signs of lizardfolk and bandit aggressions. One day though, he will escape this miserable town. |
| druidicdragonhunter_21403-31-07, 10:57 PM | Ive temperarily misplaced the other character background sheets  So I guess it is adventure time! [B]Umm, this tomb is a little creepy[B] Celeste Our brave "cough cough desperate cough" adventurists discovered a forgotten cairn on the out hills from town. Upon entering they discovered a half rotted bedroll well aged from six years ago. Shadowblade remembered stories back then of a missing teen, who everyone assumed skipped town with a dashingly handsome bard. Further inside they stopped to ponder an ancient arcane device that resembled a nobleman's mirror. Ravendust gathered the broken fragments of cold black stone to take back for research. Then they heard the chilling call of a wolf's howl and turned to find three mangy beasts looking for a quick meal. Celeste tried to empathize with them, but only the healthy looking leader hesitated before joining its hunger driven pack. The slightly larger of the neglected two wolves attacked Celeste's wolf cat injuring it for 3 points. The larger wolf cat did not take this lightly and brutally savaged the poor beast, mauling it to death. Ravendust fired an arrow at the other scrawny wolf but only for a scrape. Seto recieved minor injuries and refused healing for now, after slaying another of the canines. Shadowblade and Celeste removed the other from battle, Celeste granting them prayer to guide them back to the summerland and promising that their bodies will not be wasted. Continuing on Seto and Celeste found the strange mural portraying lamps hanging at the end of hallways aglow with the colors of the rainbow. Meanwhile the brother and sister, rouge and mage, searched the opposite corridor finding an indigo lattern and a marble index finger. Bored Celeste came to help scour through the rubble of the wolf den and found an elven leaf bracelet that Ravendust and Shadowblade somehow overlooked. Further down the hallway, burning masses of spiderwebs as they went, they came to an immense funeral room with seven alcoves stretching from the chamber. Only five of the alcoves bore colored lanterns though. Shadowblade returned the indigo lantern to its rightful place and then went to the blue lantern alcove to search for goodies. No goodies were found but he did notice the heightened ceiling. Seto called him over to search the sarcophagus in the center of the burial chamber for traps after almost opening it without thinking. Shadowblade searched and double checked and dubbed it safe for opening. He then proceeded to back away suspiciously fast, for when Seto lifted the lid he promptly had his eyebrows removed by a burst of flame. Quivering with anger (especially since the coffin had already been emptied) Seto pronounced a mark against Shadowbane and if he gains two more he shall die by Seto's hand. Shadowbane, undisturbed by the threat, proceeded to tell Seto about the mysterious blue lantern room, forgetting to mention the skeleton he found crushed in the corner. Ahhh blasted hand cramps... I was hoping to get this down before I start forgetting the details. |
| druidicdragonhunter_21404-05-07, 12:07 PM | I havent caught up with the recap yet, Ive been busy packing and getting ready to move. My campaign will be on hold for a week or two but I look foward to continuing. Until then Id like to hear any comments or advice you guys might have. Any stories from those who have played this campaign also, would be greatly appreciated too. |
| AQuebman04-11-07, 11:50 AM | I only have 2 suggestions. Keep it coming, and you may in the future want to use some more Bolding, Italics, Underlines and spaces amongst large paragraph's. Sometimes it can be a pain to do this, but it makes your recap much more intriguing and easy to read. Check out Caligula's RhOD Recap for the best set-up of one i've seen yet. You can also check out my ToEE recap, it's a bit long but may give you ideas for this campaign your running.:D |
| druidicdragonhunter_21404-11-07, 06:55 PM | I cant get the bleeding to stop! Oh please stop bleeding:weep: Sorry for the long wait, currently most of our belongings are packed and ready to move but the previous tenant for the apartment we're moving into is dragging his feet. I havent been able to get in touch with Stephanie and James either. Nonetheless the Recaps must go on... Seto managed to climb the chain without hurting himself too badly. Upon reaching the top he saw a large door carved like an angry face. Creeping along slowly Seto noticed long ruts carved into the walls and floor. Suddenly red lights began flashing from the end of the hall. "Oh SH@$!" A fierce gale struck Seto which he promptly fled back to the main room, almost failing to grab the chain on his quick descent. "You are so close to dying you lil' gutter grub!" Seto proclaimed a second mark, which Shadowblade almost bluffed his way out of. While Seto went off, the other members found that the sarcophagus rotated and activated an elevator that arose in the yellow lanterned chamber. Celeste was the first to go down, hugging her faithful wolf-cat close to her. At the bottom she spent a few minutes alone searching the first room in the Lair of the Architect. Soon the others rejoined her and helped move the large stone block out of the way. Quickly the room filled with a sickly sweet green gas. Only Shadowblade fell to its strength sapping fumes, but the group continued undaunted. That is until they felt a tingling in their blood. In the hallway adorned with ancient statues, doom loomed all around them. Unable to cope Ravendust and even Celeste's faithful wolf-cat fled to the previous chamber cowering in the corner. Meanwhile the other members were stricken with fear but they remained strong for this difficult battle. Time passed but no one could find their foe. Finally the gruesome abberation revealed itself, attacking the druidess for 1 point of damage! Seto returned the attack with a natural 1! He rolled again another 1, Seto cursed loudly as his shortsword slipped from his grip and stabbed his own foot taking 4 points of damage!   The battle ended with Celeste taking 4 more points of damage before the lurking strangler was slain. Wounded but headstrong the party continued down the hallway into a surprisingly cold gallery. Brown mold infested a quarter of the chamber spilling out of the ancient nutrient still. Unaware of the danger Celeste (rolling very low on her Know: nature check) approached the mold to examine it and took 11 points of subdual damage and fainted! Luckily the nearby living quarters were unoccupied and the group laid her down to rest upon the air cushioned stone slab. Seto stood watch over her while Ravendust destroyed the mold with a well placed ray of frost. Shadowblade and Ravendust both searched through the previous room, with Ravendust finding a hidden catch. Ravendust flipped the catch while her brother Shadowblade was searching the austere toilet room, and the stone column receded. She found a crushed skeleton wearing a shiny silver chainmail, several of the Architect's ancient tools, and three unbroken statuettes. After getting bored waiting a few hours for Celeste to awaken, Shadowblade snuck off to fill a waterskin with the orange paste from the unknown nutrient still. Returning he offered it to Seto, who again offered to kill him after tasting the gravy flavored paste. Shortly afterwards, the rest of the group decided to check out the last room before they died of boredom or each other. Upon entering the what seemed to be a work shop, Seto found an ancient black egg inscribed with a golden glyph. Ravendust identified the glyph as a personal rune of Ogremoch, a legendary elemental prince of evil. Seto decided to risk it and lifted the egg, which triggered what sounded like an avalanche. Shadowblade realized that the egg was speaking terran and that it demanded to know who had awakened the slumber of the almighty Artophanx After angering it with a few failed bluff attempts, the egg revealed its earthen elemental form and attacked Seto. Seto dropped it on the ground and drew his shortsword after narrowly dodging its nose breaking attack. Shadowblade rolled well this encounter and had all but destroyed the pitiful elemental before it bowed down and surrendered. Shadowblade then interrogated the elemental and learned a lot of unneccessary info about the Whispering Cairns history and structural details that would please a dwarf but would bore anyone else into a coma. Unable to take the monatone graveling Seto struck the creature, killing it. Celeste still had not awakened, so the group decided it was best to leave and come back again another day. They returned up the elevator into the false burial chamber. Once there Seto's curiosity got the better of him and he went to check out the green lantern alcove. He grabbed the everburning torch he had forgotten and asked Shadowblade to try turning the sarcophugus again. Shadowblade did as Seto asked, and with a deep and horrible rumbling another elevator arose. After testing it a few times to make sure it was safe, the elevator collapsed. skitter... skitter... SKITTER! A large swarm of blackened beatles emerged from the pit, charging towards Seto who had wisely gone back a few yards. Alarmed that his arrows could not harm the malicious insects Seto ran towards Ravendust who prepared to cast her burning hands when they came within range. Shadowblade threw his flasks of acid (potions of unlock door?) at the swarm from the cover of the marble coffin. The swarm remained even after the first of the burning hands struck, and to make matters worse a mad slasher darted from the hole and moved to attack as many of its prey as it could! Celeste's wolf-cat was injured for 3 pts but retaliated with a 4 pt bite. The swarm had engulfed Ravendust and the aberration had downed Seto with a maximum 9 points of damage knocking him to -4 hit points! Things were looking pretty grim indeed. The next round Shadowblade and the wolf-cat had taken a hit but Shadowblade retaliated, skewering the mad slasher with his rapier. Ravendust avoided being nauseated by the creepy crawlies biting at her and was able to fire off another spell. The swarm dissipated and scurried off but had already done their worst, knocking Celeste to -1 hp  Ravendust tried to stabilize Seto. Seconds after seconds passed but she couldnt stop the grievious wounds from taking Seto's life.:weep: Ravendust couldnt grieve just yet, she had to save Celeste. Roll after low roll went by and everyone was nervous, but by miraculous fate, Celeste stabilized at -9 hp. Shadowblade and Ravendust took their companions back to the abandoned mining office that Celeste called home, and arranged to have a priest come to make ceremony for their fallen comrad. |
| druidicdragonhunter_21404-15-07, 10:31 PM | We are playing another session on Saturday! This time my wife decided she'd like to try her hand at being a character, so now she wants to be a knight. James who's character Seto died last session, has decided to make a cleric to add some extra healing to the group. Also Im wanting to make some changes to the campaign. I dont want to do the whole Age of Worms, instead Ill be keeping them in Diamond Lake but I really want to try different modules or perhaps creating my own adventures. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Right now, Im thinking about getting the Red Hand of Doom. Ill probably run the Three Faces of Evil thats coming up, but remove anything having to do with Kyuss and worms, and throw in something that has to do with the spawns or if thats too early, then maybe just a Cult of Tiamat kind of thing. What do you guys think? |
| Caligula04-16-07, 07:56 AM | I think getting the module "Red Hand of Doom" will be the best thing you could possibly do. It's a 10 out of 10 rating adventure, no doubt! Also, I believe the RHoD module to be easily adapted to campaigns and other modules with it's open storyline. So I think it would suit you perfectly. :) |
| AQuebman04-16-07, 12:53 PM | I really don't know anything about most modules, that's part of my fascination as a player and mostly as a DM to read these recaps. From reading Caligula's i'd say RhOD is awsome. I am doing TOEE, and from reading into it it seems to be very open ended. At least with what you want to do with it. |
| Imatash04-16-07, 10:30 PM | Sorry to hear you are giving up Age of Worms. My players are on the way to the city of Greyhawk. You will have to change the name or your title :P As for how to fit it in: Change any references to Kyuss and Worms to the forces behind the RHoD. Drop some names of the evil leaders. Maybe the Ebon Triad is trying to support the RHoD and the Aspect at the end could be explained in this fashion. Imatash |
| druidicdragonhunter_21404-17-07, 12:04 AM | I really would like to run the RHoD, but unfortunately I dont own a copy... hopefully I can scrounge up enough to get it soon, if my wife will let me :embarrass Anyways I plan on running with Age of Worms till the Encounter at Blackwall Keep with the lizardfolk tribe, who may or may not be in leagues with the Red Hand. I also plan on the group having trouble with the local criminal kingpin Babalar Smenk. Im not sure what city to use for the Free City. The only Campaign setting book I have is Dragonlance from a campaign that was never meant to be... Im also missing two of the Dungeon mags that covered something to do with dopplegangers and the one after that with the black dragon... Its getting kind of late, so I apologize for the somewhat incoherent ramblings. Maybe Brindol will fit, I think I may do the arena fight from Dungeon too. Ahhh! too many ideas, i dont think Ill get much sleep tonight. |
