| petin10-08-06, 11:40 PM | I recently started to wonder while designing a campaign: What are all the forms of magic and other supernatural powers in DnD? So far I can only think of: Regular (Sorceror and Wizard) Divine (Druid(Ranger?) and Cleric) Invocations (Warlock and Dragonfire Adept) Incarnum (Incarnum Classes) Psionics (Psionic Classes) Pact Truename Stances(?) I know I am missing some, as well as not knowing all the classes associated with each supernatural power, so anyone mind helping me completing a list? P.S. I'm Planning to do a campaign and only allow in-born power users(I.E. Sorceror, Warlock etc.), can anyone renember all the in-born power classes of DnD? Thanks in advance. |

Limiting books to core+complete+PHB2+alternate caster system books, and limiting to base classes: Arcane spellcasters: Sorcerer, wizard, bard, hexblade, wu jen, warmage, spellthief, beguiler, duskblade (PHB, Complete Warrior, Complete Arcane, Complete Adventurer, PHB2) Divine spellcasters: Cleric, druid, ranger, paladin, favored soul, shugenja, spirit shaman, healer (PHB, Complete Divine, MiniHB) Psionic manifesters: Psion (egoist, nomad, kineticist, shaper, seer, tel epath), psychic warrior, wilder, ardent, divine mind, lurk (Expanded Psionics Handbook, Complete Psionic) Invocation: Warlock (Complete Arcane) Incarnum meldshapers: Incarnate, soulborn, totemist (Magic of Incarnum) Pact binders: Binder (Tome of Magic) Truename speakers: Truenamer (Tome of Magic) Shadow mystery users: Shadowcaster (Tome of Magic) Martial Initiate: Warblade, Swordsage, Crusader (All Tome of Battle) The warlock, meldshapers, binder, and martial initiates tend to be closer to an "alternative class feature" setup than a true caster setup. This also does not include classes with supernatural abilties that resemble techniques like these, such as the marshal or dragon shaman's auras. It also doesn't distinguish between "feel" of these classes (i.e. the cleric and paladin feel different than the druid and ranger, though both are divine; the ardent and divine mind manifest powers differently than the psion, wilder, and psychic warrior, and a totemist feels very different than an incarnate or soulborn). Any class can feel like inborn power regardless of flavor. BUT: Here are the ones who have that as the default WotC flavor. Sorcerer, Bard, Hexblade, Favored Soul, Wilder, Psion (sorta), Ardent (with the right mantle choice), Warlock (sorta), totemist, Some have inborn talent + training to hone it as well (note: talent must be there under default flavor): Warmage, Beguiler, Duskblade, Paladin (sorta), Spirit Shaman, Healer, Psion (most of the time), Psychic Warrior, Ardent (with some mantle choices), Divine Mind, Lurk, Warlock (sometimes), Soulborn (sorta), and one of the martial initiates (I forget which; haven't memorized the book yet). |
