| Phelix_the_Warrior06-18-07, 05:58 PM | Alignment in D&D doesn't make much sense to me, I mean chaotic means you don't follow rules right?, so by not following rules your technically following your own rule of not following rules, making you lawful because you follow your own rule, a true chaotic person would follow rules in and out, and then they are being chaotic however they are following their own rule of being chaotic 100% of the time, so the only way to be a true chaotic player would be to switch alignments at random, which is why when I play a chaotic person every hour, and sometimes every half hours and sometimes every time I see a number on the clock that reminds me of something I roll a 10 sided dice to figure out what alignment I am (10 I stay the alignment I currently am) |

| fatal error06-18-07, 06:31 PM | Alignment in D&D doesn't make much sense to me Are you aware that is all one long sentence? Anyway, it isn't that you set yourself down as a chaotic person and decide that you will follow your rule about not following rules. You just act on your instinct, your gut, and don't like others telling you what you should or should not, or especially what you can or cannot, do. I mean, I guess that means you're following a rule, but not one you actually worked out. Otherwise, you couldn't be good, evil, or even neutral, as a chaotically aligned character. Either way, I judge your method of playing a chaotic character to be the most irritating thing someone could try to twist the alignment system into in one of my D&D games. You take an already perilously empirical moral and ethical framework, and hack at it with a blunt axe until it is in the shape of a gameshow's wheel. Furthermore, didn't you just say chaotic alignments effectively can't actually exist? Therefore, shouldn't you only be rolling a 6-sided die? |
| RobbyPants06-18-07, 06:34 PM | Yeah. Chaotic doesn't mean that you never follow any rules. It means that you have a general disposition that doesn't like authority. You don't like being told what to do. You value individualism. Now, you can take it further if you want, but you don't have to. You could play a chaotic character as rebeling against all order, and mixes their socks in their underwear drawer! Or maybe they're devoted to anarchy. The point is that chaotic X =/= chaotic stupid. X = good, neutral, or evil |
| IRememberCecil06-18-07, 06:42 PM | You're playing the alignment wrong. |
| Holy_Beholder06-18-07, 06:52 PM | The point is that chaotic X =/= chaotic stupid. X = good, neutral, or evil Speaking of Chaotic Stupid, I read a thread a while ago about turning the alignment square into a cube by adding Stupid, Mildly Stupid, and Not Stupid. The example in the first post is Stupid Chaotic Neutral. This also allows for such wonders as "Smite stupid" "Reason"(blasphemy, holy smite, chaos hammer, whatever law has) and the wonderful "Magic circle against stupid" I can see using the first one a lot, the second one over and over, and the third one permanencied around my house and most schools. |
| Forgotten_Warrior06-18-07, 08:01 PM | I just thought that chaotic wasn't meant that a character wasn't bound to any oath or code. They would pretty much just do what they thought was right for them. Oh, and the only Chaotic Stupid would be Chaotic Evil. |
| CryoSilver06-18-07, 08:04 PM | D&D Evil != Stupid. Evil in D&D is just as valid and powerful as good. |
| Holy_Beholder06-18-07, 09:44 PM | On the other hand, when most new players get to chaotic evil, it is Stupid Chaotic Evil. Hence Smite Stupid. This should be an at will ability, or a feat. Like this. Stupid Whacker Prerequisites: Not Stupid. Benifit: You can do +1 damage per class level on any creature with Stupid in their alignment. You do this by striking at times when their blinding stupidity leaves them open. You can also get a free attack of opportunity against any Stupid creature when they do something Stupid, such as go around killing people and eating babies because "they're evil" This does not take your attack of opportunity for the round. Normal: You can't hit stupid creatures really hard. |

| Holy_Beholder06-18-07, 10:04 PM | Now just put it on as a weapon ability... I really need a stupid bane or stupid whacker hammer gun;) . |
| Phelix_the_Warrior06-19-07, 08:41 PM | The fact I got serious replies from this gives me great pleasure and yes other than spelling I don't really care about grammar on the internet |
