| Harmor09-19-04, 01:59 PM | We have a great session last night that I gotta share with ya. So we're in Sansabar (sp?) and I goto this reknowned weaponsmith. I ask him to make me a Mithril Chainshirt. Well there's a problem, his workshop was overrun by a fire elemental. Apparently the hearth he had magical created for him with a everburning fire actually led to the elemental plane of fire. It was probably an evil mage that made it for him *sniker*. Anyway he saids that he will make the suit of armor for me if I remove the elementals from his underground workshop. Ok no problem. So we go and make a bunch of Resistance to Elements scrolls and prepare to enter his workshop. We enter the workshop and kill off a few mephits and lesser fire elementals, no problem. So we finally get to room with the hearth. We open the door and see a clouded barrier occluding our vision into the room. Ok so we step into the room only to find a Large Fire Elemental. The room is small enough that he has reach into the entire room. Ok so we start hammering away at him. I'm a rogue/wizard and use my Wand of Ray of Frost. Our swashbuckler/fighter is tanking the thing, while our ranger archer is sitting there getting AoO after AoO. With only his 19 AC he dropped pretty quickly. Our swashbucker/fighter also drops as our cleric is moving back and forth, getting AoO, healing them. Literally the fighter and the ranger go unconcious 4 times in the battle!!! While the Large Fire Elemental occationally hits me aswell. I'm at 3 HP, the cleric is at 8 HP, the figher is at -5 hp stabalized, while the ranger is at -8 HP and dying when we finally kill the Large Fire Elemental - thank Lantander for Spiritual Weapon. And this was a CR 5 encounter!!! If we weren't forced to all stay be in the room because of the Solid Fog or whatever it was, it wouldn't been much easier. All-in-all we had a great time all biting our fingernails and surviving the encounter intact!!! Great fun. |
| Seeker9509-19-04, 04:27 PM | Final encounter in Queen of the Demonweb Pits. Our AP History class was on a spring break field trip to civil war battlefields. Our teacher was the DM. We were up against the wall, getting our butts kicked by the avatar of Llolth. So, my magic-user cast Tenser's transformation and got shoved into the room armed with the best equipment and weapons of the group. He mopped the floor with the avatar, saving the party. Had we tried to take her on "as a group" it would have been a TPK. It ended up being a close-to-TPK anyway. The party opened the door when they realized the battle was over. Unfortunately, the transformation had not ended, so I attacked the party. I took out two of them before they managed to kill me. |
| Asmodeous09-20-04, 01:30 AM | Great thread. I hope nobody minds that I spill the gossip on our session last night. our party has been in a kind of quasi reality for some time, I think we are getting to the end, you can never be sure with our dm. Anyway, we had to fight our first true epic opponent, a chitmeta or something like that, its the mass of wings monster with a tail, air element related creature straight from the epic hand book. We where able to initiate the fight, so we buffed our brains out with mass bears endurances, heroisms, holy aura, greater spell immunity, spell reistances, divine power/favor/righteous might, fly etc. As usual, our party fighter charges in and goes toe to toe with it, keeping it off the party wizard and my cleric. The wizard tries some lower resistances which fail while I try an energy drain and repulsion, which also fail. In the third round, the fighter hits the ground which im able to get off a mass heal to get him back to his feet before the big bad monster starts beating on me. I try a harm touch attack, but loose the spell from its massive attack and with only 70 hit points I toss the initiative die and roll a 3. My cleric is the first to hit the ground dead which is kind of bad for the party as im the only cleric in this quasi world place and our stocks of diamonds is getting low. The fighter and wizard continue to hammer the bady. out of desperation, the wizard decided to meteor swarm the fighter and baddy, ending up doing more damage to the fighter than the monster. Nothing is going right for the wizard tonite. The fighter is next to hit the ground and the monster beats on the wizard, nearly killing her in a single round. She wins initiative and time stops, drinking a couple of cure pots and getting some serious distance between her and the baddy for the finale. Bad, news, we discover the monsters massive movement rate. The wizard gets a polar ray spell off at it, then has to cast cone of cold at point blank range, finally killing the monster at her feet. With a bit of organization, and flogging of my clerics armor and major cold resist ring, the wizard is able to get in contact with other beings of my clerics diety (a air elemental god!) and get me true ressurected, and I get the fighter up the next day. The chitmeta or what ever its called turns up with no loot, and a very plausible reason why its got no loot, and we get a xp award of 2,600 to show for our efforts and im down 80 grand or so of items making it the dearest true ressurection spell in history im sure. In hind site, we should have wiped the floor with the the winged rat. I later found out that my epic bow would have bypassed its DR and every damn spell we tossed at it either got taken out by its immunities, spell resistance and it made every friggin saving throw. Add in loosing initiated on the only two rounds when it mattered and the fact that this thing was a abomination to my cleric's diety, kind of embarrassing when you have to be true res' by the dieties agents afterwards. I tell you, the next time the DM tries one of these things at me again, Im gunna hit him with the DMG. |
| Harmor09-26-04, 04:04 AM | So we're all level 1 and 2 and happen to come accross a kobold cave. Well, as usual, there are traps, murder holes, and whatnot there so by the time we get to the 'final room' we're pretty battered. We open the door and we are greated by a bunch of skilled kobolds. Ok no problem, our fighter plugs up the door way and we start working our way though them. From around the corner comes a Shaman and casts Sleep on the entire party!!! Most of us only have +0 or +1 to Will saves so we all goto sleep, except our Elf Swashbuckler (our fighter in the doorway). Well he dispatches the barbarian kobold at the door way and makes his way to the archers and finally the Shaman. He LITERIALLY killed them all. He didn't know that he could had easily kicked us awake (he's not a spellcaster and didn't metagame). It was very exciting seeing him survive with only 3 hit points left. AWESOME!!! |
| Bort33309-28-04, 03:43 PM | I was DMing this fight. Evil Party Level 4 Fighter (Spiked Chain) Level 4 Wizard Level 3 Rogue Tiefling Level 4 Ranger (Archer) They were travelling back from recently slaughtering several farms and were ambushed by a group out for justice. Level 6 Ranger 3 Level 3 Paladins on War Horses. Ranger Entangled the paladins (only one failed their save) he was stuck for a *long* time. Fighter drank a potion of enlarge person giving him 20 foot reach. He triped the paladins off their horse. Unfourantly the horses proved very brutal and kicked him in the face several times. 100 + feet away the ranger was hailing down death on the party with 3 ranged attacks a round. The PC's had to use several action points and many potions to survive. I think every single PC at one point or another during the fight went below 0. The fight finnally ended when the last paladin fell and the ranger went to flee. The Wizard used his magic item to summon stirges that caught up and brought the ranger down. |
| Harmor10-03-04, 11:45 AM | So there's these group of orcs nearby a town we're basing out of. We had reports of these two 'intelligent' wargs terrorizing the miners of that town. We venture into the hills in search of these wargs and find their lair. We quickly dispatch a bunch of orcs with a well placed Fireball and enter the cave where we believe these wargs are. The warg is ****** and enters the room we're in. I attempt to Ray of Enfeeble the warg but roll a '1'. Our swashbuckler is tanking the warg and I go up and take an AoO and get hit for 18 - ouch. I then try to tumble into a flanking position and roll a 1. The warg criticals me and I'm not in the negatives!!! Two hits and I'm down. The cleric, archer ranger and swashbuckler are trying to kill it as fast as possible. We kill the warg with the swashbuckler at 20 hp and the cleric just criticaled for 35 - he only have 7 hit points left, while the ranger hasn't been touched. ANOTHER warg, more powerful than the first enters the room though a 5-foot cooridor, while the cleric heals himself. The swashbuckler tries to keep it in the cooridor, but its too strong. The swashbuckler withdraws and drinks a healing potion. The cleric steps up and is tanking the warg while the ranger is plinking away doing great damage - I'm still rolling for stablization...arg. After a bunch of lucky rolls we barely kill this advanced warg. The swashbuckler is at 3 hp, the cleric has 13, I'm still dieing and the ranger archer still hasn't been hit (grumble). Just then we here a scream and down the hallway the orc leader barrels down the hallway and charges the cleric, but misses. The cleric stands back and heals me and I'm at 2 hp. The swashbuckler disarms the orc barbarian of his Greatsword. The casts Scorching Ray but rolls a '1'. The ranger criticals with his composite longbow. The barbarian orc steps back and drinks a potions (we hate it when the enemy uses up our loot - arg), and his wounds close-up. I Magic Missile him, the ranger pelts him with another round of rapid shots, while the cleric and the swashbuckler beat on him. Nonetheless we beat him down. Whoosh...lots of fun. |
