| velvetbird01-03-04, 03:09 AM | Can anyone please suggest a good, relatively errata-free, alternative to Dungeons and Dragons? Thanks |
| SnowbearK01-03-04, 03:13 AM | How about Rifts? |
| Tenzhi01-03-04, 03:16 AM | Guardians of Order's Tri-Stat dX system is pretty good (not to mention very flexible), IMO. |
| velvetbird01-03-04, 03:28 AM | Wow! Thanks for the replies. That was fast. I'll check those games out. Thanks |
| Flying_Nimrod_201-03-04, 05:35 AM | Shadow Run Heroes Unlimited (Palladium) Rifts (Palladium) RuneQuest Mage: The Ascension (Second edition, White Wolf publishing) |
| CX31601-03-04, 12:41 PM | gotta love Shadowrun :D I've read the book for Mechwarrior, but never really gotten to use it, seems like it uses the same system as Shadowrun if you like d20 but don't like getting lots of books, you could always try D20 Modern, Call Of Cthulhu D20 or Wheel of Time D20... personally I have the COCD20 book, but I've never gotten to use it :( |
| JoAT01-03-04, 12:55 PM | Looking over at my Games shelf... Rifts (mostly sold off, yay!) Heroes Unlimited (as above) Systems Failure Ninjas and Superspies After the Bomb Demon: the Fallen Vampire: The Masqurade Werewolf: The Apocolypse Wraith: The Oblivion Mage: The Ascention Noun: The Adjective Adventure! Aberrant Trinity Shadowrun Bubblegum Crisis BESM tristat Dominion Tank Police Tenchi Muyo! Demon City Shinjuku Sailor Moon Tristat dX Silver Age Sentinals Mutants and Masterminds Marvel RPG (old school) Marvel Super hero adventure RPG (or something like that - the SAGA version) Marvel Universe RPG Wheel of Time Star Wars (d20) Star Wars (d6) Call of Cthulu (old fifth edition) Gama Wolrd (New S&S edition... unfortunetly...) d6 System Builder GURPs d20 Modern Hrmmm... I think there's some others, but they must be in storage. Anyways, these make some pretty fun alternatives. Marvel Universe and the various Tristat games being those least requireing of any real errata |
| Conaill01-03-04, 01:43 PM | Most importantly... what sort of genre do you want to play? There's probably hundreds of different game systems out there, but each has a slightly different "slant". Secondly... make sure you pick a game system that has a resonable size following! Otherwise, you're doomed never to find any players for your new favorite game. Number of players is exactly why D&D has stayed so popular, even though it's game mechanic is arguably somewhat archaic (less so with 3rd Edition, but still...) |

No we can't precious. |
| Conaill01-03-04, 03:01 PM | So what are the most preciousss - sorry - the most popular non-D&D games out there, in terms of how easy it is to find players for them? As a guess, I'd say V:tM is probably somewhere near the top, if you're into that kinda thing. I know GURPS seemed to be big in the Bay Area, although it seems to be harder to find players here. Anyone know of any statistics along these lines? |
| The White Sorcerer01-03-04, 03:15 PM | Excardon me for being dim, but what in the blazing Abyss does this thread have to do with D&D? |
| SputnikCorp01-03-04, 04:33 PM | i know that vampire: the masquerade, rifts, and GURPs have large followings. cyberpunk 2020 used to be somewhat popular as was star wars d6. you want to find players, try those games. |
| Impeesa01-03-04, 06:14 PM | Technically, I suppose RIFTS is more or less errata-free - but not in a good way. :D I recommend Rolemaster, if you can find an experienced GM to run for you. --Impeesa-- |
