| DmofAlterak01-30-06, 03:38 PM | Well maybe not and you may be just as much a D&D fanatic as me but here's some of my D&D info for comparison I have created loads of campaigns. I DM. I have played D&D for years. I have played: basic D&D, Advanced D&D 2nd edition, and 3rd edition D&D. I have so much personally made D&D stuff it fills at least half a dozen holders, boxes, binders, and other storage devices. More specifically: 13 hard covers, 10 soft covers, 25 dice, 7 modules, 3 boxed sets, and a cardboard box (not really big just small), 2 notebooks, 3 binders, and 3 stacks of personnaly made D&D and other stuff writings. I have loads of character sheets. I have even more adventures personnally created by myself. I own three players handbooks. I own more than a dozen hard covers (13), about the same in soft covers (actually 10), a dozen or so mudules (oops 7), 2 sets of dice + some d6's and a d20 not including those which come with the game (including some three small d6s a player gave me for my birthday painted with roman numerals for numbers and total dice not including those included in boxed sets of 25), and two dozen or so Dragon magazines (actually around 34.) I own a D&D computer game. I have two web blogs dedicated to D&D stuff. I am a member of this wizards community thing. I know what T.H.A.C.0 means (to hit armor class 0). And last for now but not least I have created my own RPG's. |
| Illion the Red01-30-06, 03:44 PM | 3 sets of dice not including those which come with the game That's it? My wife has at least 20 sets of dice, and she is FAR from a D&D fanatic. :P |
| Zeppelin_12901-30-06, 03:49 PM | Your not frantic, just devoted, if you don't want some of your stuff, I'll b ehappy to take it off your hands Trust me im worst, i have literaly 30 NPC's, non of which i've used in my games. And i have an equal amount of books, along with five D&D computer games. |
| Zeppelin_12901-30-06, 03:51 PM | God #$@!, i really need to learn how to read, you said fanatic, not frantic. ] I hate my illiterate self |
| DmofAlterak01-30-06, 04:15 PM | That's it? My wife has at least 20 sets of dice, and she is FAR from a D&D fanatic. :P I do not have 20 sets of dice but in my defense I once read (in a dragon magazine) a letter sent in wherein some one had a player who ate his dice.......he he he.........sorry. |
| DmofAlterak01-30-06, 04:22 PM | Actually I only have 2 sets of dice which I have now edited in the top post which was previously 3 but I do have a kind of purple pink d20 as well. :) |
| oracle_of_delphie01-30-06, 04:35 PM | I Trully can't compete :weep: Well I'm 20. I'll get up to that one day. I should keep my stuff... |
| the overlord01-30-06, 04:40 PM | Hmm, I wonder where in line I would put myself. Allright to be honest I did not play D&D until 3.0 but since then I have been commited. Played in a dozen campaign, DM 3 mayor campaigns and countless adventurers. Brought countless new people into the hobby, have so many dice that I will not even try to count the sets in my possesion. Furthermore I got more books then would ever be needed, 100++ hard covers dozens of softcovers and plenty of D20 source books (though I do not need most of the material, especially since I write/ design and develop all my campaigns+ adventures+ NPC's and most of the monsters). Still I do not see myself as a fanatic. Just a devoted hobbysist who spends a little to much time into this hobby  Just my two Cents  |
| Aliquid01-30-06, 04:41 PM | I have created loads of campaigns.same here I DM.yep I have played D&D for years.Since 1984 I have played: basic D&D, Advanced D&D 2nd edition, and 3rd edition D&D.yep I have so much personally made D&D stuff it fills at least half a dozen holders, boxes, binders, and other storage devices.you beat me there... I haven't bothered to actually buy supplemental stuff since the early 90s 2 sets of dice + some d6's and a d20 not including those which come with the gameprobably about 8 sets of dice and a set of d6s. and two dozen or so Dragon magazines.I think I have 2.... | Deacon Liadon01-30-06, 04:44 PM | I doubt that your the biggest fanatic here. I mean, only two sets of dice? Also, knowing what THAC0 means is easy. Knowing how it works is the hard part. |

I do that too. |
| DmofAlterak01-30-06, 04:52 PM | I doubt that your the biggest fanatic here. I mean, only two sets of dice? Also, knowing what THAC0 means is easy. Knowing how it works is the hard part. It's self explanatory with a Thac0 of 16 my fighter could hit a kobold with ac 6 with a roll of 10 + any modifiers etc. You may be right that I am not the most fanatic D&D player here but if so who is he/she I would like to meet them on my post along with other D&D players of all experience types! |
| jpat9301-30-06, 04:53 PM | I own three players handbooks. Hadn't you better pick up the 1e version? :D And last for now but not least I have created my own RPG's. Now I'll grant you, that is rather hardcore, though it sounds from this thread that it's not unprecedented. |
| DmofAlterak01-30-06, 05:01 PM | Hadn't you better pick up the 1e version? :D Now I'll grant you, that is rather hardcore, though it sounds from this thread that it's not unprecedented. You got me on that one I don't own a 1e players handbook, see I figured "why do I need it?" and didn't get one. There is one advantage to creating your own RPG I would like to point out: if a rules lawyer or powergamer type player dose something you don't like and you try to take it out of the rules and he/she is annoyed you can just say "I made up the game" and then you can change it etc. |
| BladeMage_101-30-06, 05:03 PM | WoW, you guys make me still feel human. I got ALOT of stuff to do! :( |
| Edymnion01-30-06, 07:28 PM | Nope, not even close, sorry. |
| Arkonth01-30-06, 08:03 PM | In terms of pruchased material, you've got me outclassed. In terms of homebrew, I could literally bury you under waht I've actually written down. If I can count ideas, then at a breif estimate the mass of paper involved would make it impossible to move around my house. |
| Ogmug01-30-06, 09:10 PM | Well maybe not and you may be just as much a D&D fanatic as me but here's some of my D&D info for comparison I have created loads of campaigns. I have 3 full blown campaigns stored, and 2 active ones, detailed down to the laws of over 80 towns I DM. Currenlty dm'ing 2 seperate campaigns I have played D&D for years. Started when I was 8. I have played: basic D&D, Advanced D&D 2nd edition, and 3rd edition D&D. Same here. Still have the box for the basic set I have so much personally made D&D stuff it fills at least half a dozen holders, boxes, binders, and other storage devices. 4 3"-3 ring binders filled, 2 trapper keepers, 6 spiral notebooks I have loads of character sheets. I just tossed a bunch since i converted them to PDF I have even more adventures personnally created by myself. I have about 9 mini adventures set, and 2 "epic" ones that I can toss parts of them in when needed. I own three players handbooks. Counting editions? <---lost track of how many are on my bookshelf and loaned I own more than a dozen hard covers, about the same in soft covers, a dozen or so mudules, 2 sets of dice + some d6's and a d20 not including those which come with the game, and two dozen or so Dragon magazines. At last count, i have over 300 dice.... I own a D&D computer game. Baldurs gate 1, baldurs gate 2, icewindale trilogy, pool of radiance, pool of radiance 2, baldurs gate dark alliance...and one more. I have two web blogs dedicated to D&D stuff. No weblogs, just a site where i send my players for the maps, stories, etc. I am a member of this wizards community thing. Aren't we all ?:P I know what T.H.A.C.0 means (to hit armor class 0). I can remember sv vs poison And last for now but not least I have created my own RPG's. Got me there :P |
| weasel fierce01-30-06, 09:28 PM | You're not hardcore unless a spell in the rulebook is named after your real life name, backwards (at least one such) Not that I have, but thats the level of hardcore you have to be, to be truly hardcore :) |
| Wharin01-31-06, 10:34 AM | Ahh... but do you have a DnD tattoo? Now *thats* hardcore. |
| Sulaco01-31-06, 10:43 AM | Well good for you. Here is your cookie. :cookie: Just out of curiosity, do you expect anyone here to be impressed by this? Assuming you're not trolling, this is barely scratching the surface of eager amateur status. Come back when you have a filing cabinet filled with Dungeon and Dragon magazines, a paint bucket at least half-full of dice (no more than 20% of which can be d6's scrounged from other games), at least a dozen bankers boxes full of D&D materials, no less than 30 linear bookshelf feet of D&D books, at least 10 different D&D boxed set adventures and supplements (not including basic set), no less than 3 different copies of the D&D pink box/red box basic set, no fewer than 250 metal miniatures and 1000 plastic DDM figures, at least five (5) published d20 supplements, and enough PCs to fill half-a-dozen binders on their own. |
| Sulaco01-31-06, 10:47 AM | Ahh... but do you have a DnD tattoo? Now *thats* hardcore. Only if you did it yourself with a needle and a piece of string soaked in ink. |
| Wharin01-31-06, 12:12 PM | Only if you did it yourself with a needle and a piece of string soaked in ink. Darn it! Oh well. :allalone: But getting back to the OP's topic: But seriously, yeah doing all of those things might make you the residential DnD-nerd extraoridinaire of your circle of friends, but there will be always others that will make you seem tame out there. Particularly on these boards. |
| nastynate01-31-06, 01:43 PM | Good lord, I've got you beat significantly, and my D&D fanatacism only goes so far. A buddy of mine has been to 9 GenCons and counting, and has multiple D&D costumes (wizards robes, replica armor, etc). He has almost every dragon magazine ever printed, 24k gold dice, and a collection of hand painted minis (somewhere around three hundred) that makes me uber-jealeous. Everyone in my gaming group has got literally hundreds of D&D books each, modules, boxed sets, etc, and thousands of dice. We've played every edition of D&D, written entire campaign worlds mutiple times, and I don't even think we can compare to some of the people I've met. I do however, know how to use every edition of psionics...which seems to be a very rare talent. Knowing what THAC0 means and how to use it isn't a big deal, you had to in order to play second edition. Rudimentary second edition knowledge does not make you a fanatic, I hope. The funny thing is, that fanatacism is kind of hard to quantify in a hobby with so much history. I only play once every two weeks, and really don't put all that much time into the game anymore, but over the course of more than seventeen years (I'm such a newb) of D&D play you'd be surprised how much junk you can accumulate, and how many adventures you can actually run through. When I started playing, I latched onto more experienced players, who had been at it since the seventies, when I was but a wee lad, and they had all the really classic stuff. I got exposed to some of the really old-school adventures like the Isle of Dread, Against the Giants, Barrier Peaks, and other Gygax originals. I had a blast playing in the Tomb of Horrors, and Bloodstone Mines, and yet I still feel kind of like the new guy. In some circles I might be the guru of all things D&D, and yet in my own, I'm just one of the guys. The other thing that really keeps things in perspective, is the transition from one edition to the next. I still don't have the level of competence with 3.5 that I did with 2E, and some new players who've never been involved with older systems often know things I don't about the newer versions. Once you get certain things ingrained into your mind, it's much harder to change them. In my head I still figure out 3.5 ACs in relation to 2E equivilents (30 equals -10 for those who don't know), and find it very hard to accept that TWF isn't the best melee combat technique anymore. Get a couple decades under your belt and you'll know what I'm talking about; it makes me feel old, and I haven't even hit thirty yet. :D |
| Aliquid01-31-06, 01:57 PM | In some circles I might be the guru of all things D&D, and yet in my own, I'm just one of the guys. Same here. I know some "kids" in their early 20s who are new to the game and think I am a "guru of all things D&D", but the people who I regularly play with... I'm just average, if not below average. In one campaign I am playing in, the GM makes his own rules every time he runs a campaign. Custom designs the game to fit the genre and theme of the story... He doesn't own a single D&D book or other published RPG book, but he has been creating his own custom games and role playing since the late 60s (before D&D existed). There is a huge variety of gamers out there... |
| devinmdp01-31-06, 08:52 PM | I have played for 31 years. I have DM'd for most of that time I run my own homebrew campaign. Every single adventure for it is designed by me from scratch. I write up my adventures fully and completely like a published scenario. I just finished running a 12 year campaign and am in the 4th year of my new campaign and am in the planning stages for another 10 year campaign. I DM for my 7 year old as well. I own every single 3.5 book and 3.0 book except for Eberron and a few FR books. I have somewhere around 4000 D&D miniatures I have 2 characters in Living Greyhawk, one of which is 10th level I have written articles on gaming for various RP publications I took 2nd place in a sealed DDM tournament at Gen Con So Cal I won 3rd place in a Dragon Magazine dungeon design contest many years ago I have a room in my house (called the War Room) devoted to gaming and D&D Devin |
| Gandal 'The Grim Fisted'01-31-06, 08:56 PM | An ambitious light weight maybe... good enough to be a fanatic yes... well, well short of the biggest... |
| devinmdp01-31-06, 08:59 PM | Sir..I challenge you to a nerd duel at dawn. Choose your weapon! Devin |
| Kalanth01-31-06, 09:06 PM | I have created loads of campaigns. That happens, and is quite common when you DM. I DM. Done this for 14 of the 21 years I have been playing. I have played D&D for years. See above. I have played: basic D&D, Advanced D&D 2nd edition, and 3rd edition D&D. If it was D&D, I played it. I have so much personally made D&D stuff it fills at least half a dozen holders, boxes, binders, and other storage devices. Thats what I have a computer for. Over 15 gigs in the D&D folder. Not counting the mini's that I have and back issues of Dragon and Dungeon. I have loads of character sheets. Again, this is one of the things I use a computer for. I have 27 different sheet styles saved on the computer. I have even more adventures personnally created by myself. I don't like premade adventures, though I own all the 3.5 and 3.0 adventures. I own three players handbooks. I have two PHB's and two DMG's. One set is normal, the other is the anniversary edditions. I own more than a dozen hard covers, about the same in soft covers, a dozen or so mudules. . . All told, at this time, I have 83 3.5 books alone (Hardcovers, Modules, Softcovers, third party map books, screens, PC sheets, etc) 2 sets of dice + some d6's and a d20 not including those which come with the game, and two dozen or so Dragon magazines. I own over 25 sets, two of which being the mini-gem dice and one the 24k Gold dice. I own a D&D computer game. I still have the floppies to the old Dragonlance SSI games. Not counting all the games that were released before, during, and after that time. I have two web blogs dedicated to D&D stuff. No interest in these. I am a member of this wizards community thing. As are everyone responding to this. I belong to here, and about 6 other D&D dedicated boards. I know what T.H.A.C.0 means (to hit armor class 0). I know what it means, and how to properly calculate it. And last for now but not least I have created my own RPG's. Since the topic was fanatical about D&D playing, then I don't see this as a big deal. I would never create a game. However, I have created two campaign worlds, if that counts. |
| Drath'ri01-31-06, 10:27 PM | does it count if i own every dnd book printed by WOTC from 3.0 and on. on every setting. and i bought over 2 pounds of dice. i have 4 players handbooks. i own 5 dnd games. and i mean hell i'm only 18. the best part of it all is. i make characters for the fun of it. and i have a hard time finding players. 3 at the moment |
| weasel fierce01-31-06, 10:29 PM | It counts if you paid for the books yourself :) |
| Ranger REG02-01-06, 04:03 AM | Well maybe not and you may be just as much a D&D fanatic as me but here's some of my D&D info for comparison [snipped for brevity.] Hmm. I guess you're a blatantly fanatic if you answer "yes" to the following question: Do you still owned/created and wear D&D Underoos? (The one with Gary Gygax face on the frontal area is optional). |
| Kalanth02-01-06, 06:57 AM | Do you still owned/created and wear D&D Underoos? (The one with Gary Gygax face on the frontal area is optional). I have a bunch of T-Shirts that date back to the 80's. Does that count? |
| Monsoon2802-01-06, 07:37 AM | I have owned and played every single D&D game ever made for the computer. Back in the early 90's before I stopped playing I had so much material it was lunacy! Well over 50 books. I've read just about every novel in the Forgotten Realms setting. I've started playing in '87/88 stopped in '94/95 went on to Rifts and came back the second the first PHB 3.0 hardcover was on the shelf. I'm dedicated yes, but no where near as crazy as some. I mean Ed Greenwood created a Whole bloody world, history, market economy, everything! We know this as the Forgotten Realms but to him it's his 'Home' Campaign setting! Ed is definitely a thousand times more fanatical then I! gods love him! :D |
| DmofAlterak02-01-06, 02:47 PM | In terms of pruchased material, you've got me outclassed. In terms of homebrew, I could literally bury you under waht I've actually written down. If I can count ideas, then at a breif estimate the mass of paper involved would make it impossible to move around my house. Yes......I like to make up stuff too. You see all that the books purchased requires is money and the inclination to do so but the stuff you make up is what requires your skill and knowledge. |
| DmofAlterak02-01-06, 03:00 PM | Got me there :P You actually remember the save vs. poison? good job! As for the RPG's that's where I thought most averagae or even above average in experience gamers might not have that but some one has! that's good but now my most potent accomplishment has been equaled so: I own 11 minitures. I have created my own D&D comic strip. And as for some of my players........I checked a scrap pile because my players recycle their character sheets and I dug up a hundred or so maybe less and stuck them in a folder......these are only their recent character sheets....... :) |
| DmofAlterak02-01-06, 03:05 PM | You're not hardcore unless a spell in the rulebook is named after your real life name, backwards (at least one such) Not that I have, but thats the level of hardcore you have to be, to be truly hardcore :) You don't say.....dose it count if I made up the rules for an RPG and wrote most of the spells myself?......I did but wouldn't it sound weird if I named a combat spell Karetlafomd or DmofAlterak? :) |
| DmofAlterak02-01-06, 03:09 PM | Actually Karetlafomd sounds kind of cool thanks for the idea! :) |

I still have the floppies to the old Dragonlance SSI games. Not counting all the games that were released before, during, and after that time. No interest in these. As are everyone responding to this. I belong to here, and about 6 other D&D dedicated boards. I know what it means, and how to properly calculate it. Since the topic was fanatical about D&D playing, then I don't see this as a big deal. I would never create a game. However, I have created two campaign worlds, if that counts. About campaigns: no..........seriously I have a lot of campaigns mainly because the players keep making new characters all the time. About RPGs: perhaps but I've made more than one.......also experienced players are quite good for playtesting new game systems simply ask them to make a character and in short order they will let you know what rules are pointless and also since their experienced most of the stuff on their character may be too powerful and need changing as an example of this: Player "wait a sec two weapon fighting is pointless because with the right abilities you can swing a single weapon twice just as easily and carry a shield too!" DM "hhhmmmm....hey! your right I think I'll change that." Later: Player "he he he at first level my character can attack 5 times with a sword." DM "What! oh...I need to change that sorry." The only problem with this is that the Players character sheet may end up really messed up and it might take him a little while to actually finish the character. |
| DmofAlterak02-01-06, 03:35 PM | Im not sure if that makes you hardcore, but it does give you old school-cred :) Thanks! |
| Sulaco02-01-06, 04:09 PM | You actually remember the save vs. poison? good job! Err, so does anyone who has played earlier editions of the game. Viewing this as an accomplishment is like giving someone a pat on the back and a cookie for knowing the name of the guy in black who killed Obi Wan Kenobi. |
| Wharin02-01-06, 04:24 PM | Wait... Will Smith killed Obi Wan Kenobi? That don't make no sense :P |
| Shard Avengard02-01-06, 04:33 PM | I did This!!! (http://www.ultimategamingtable.org) me 4 Teh Win!!!!! ps: Save Vs. DEATH RAY!!! |
| Wharin02-01-06, 04:50 PM | Dang. If that was in like a parchment colour with like a more antiqued wood boarder, that would be "1337" squared (which happens to be 1,787,569 for those keeping score) |
| Temmogen02-01-06, 05:08 PM | I cant beleive I just wasted 10 minutes reading this thread. I want them back. |
| Journeyman Samwise02-01-06, 05:18 PM | Yeah well I'm so fanatic I learned how to fold myself up into 20 sides (yoga) and then got the numbers 1-20 tatooed on my body so I can NEVER BE CAUGHT D20LESS FOR I AM ONE MWAHAHAHAHA. My mom thought it was a cool idea too. |
| weasel fierce02-01-06, 05:22 PM | I cant beleive I just wasted 10 minutes reading this thread. I want them back. Clearly, you are not hardcore enough |
| Temmogen02-01-06, 05:38 PM | Clearly, you are not hardcore enough I've been playing since I was 14. I'm 37 now. Do the math. I own every core books for 3.5, and every book for 3.5 Forgotten Realms. I own 2 complete sets of 1st Edition books.1 complete set of 2nd edition on CD. I have more minis than I can count on an abacus. I have an entire room of my house dedicated to D&D, I also have 3 computer games, 2 of which run on DOS systems, which I have. I have personally created 2 fully fleshed out campaign settings, and I'm currently working on a third. I have subscriptions to both Dungeon magazine and Dragon magazine. I also have the the 250 Issue archive of Dragon on CD. I own The Worlds Largest Dungeon. I have over 30 modules ranging from Basic to 3.5. I have been DMing since I was 16. So There *Phhhhbbbbtttt* :P Andf I was just kidding in the previous post anyway. :D |
| Guroth the Forsaken02-01-06, 06:23 PM | Dang. If that was in like a parchment colour with like a more antiqued wood boarder, that would be "1337" squared (which happens to be 1,787,569 for those keeping score) I can pronounce 1337, but how the Hell do you pronounce 1,787,569? ;) |
| kraegor02-01-06, 06:58 PM | Between me and my roomate we had every single book, adventure and box set from 1st, 2nd, 2nd edition revised (you remember, those black books with the options), 3rd, and 3.5 edition. (Also we believe we have most books put out by AEG, Green Ronin, Mongoose, Bastion Press and others for d20) (These books take up 4, 8' tall, 4' wide bookcases in a room) We have enough dice to fill up 1 standard backpack to the brim. (Somewhere in the vicinity of around 3000-4000 i believe) We have every map ever put out by TSR/WotC, Including the 10x5 Full map of waterdeep. We have about 12 D-Ring binders full of 3 Ring Paper Errata and Extras from D&D 2e and Spelljammer. We still have half the dice chits from the Original Game (although a bit unreadable). Between us we have over 35 years of experience. We also have almost every Pallidium, Rifts, Vampire, and Robotech book there has been. Original Dragon and Dungeon magazines since #68 and #12 respectively. 2 Rooms have been converted in our house. 1 is a "gaming room" and the other is the "D&D storage" room. We have over 12 homebrew worlds between us, and over 4 boxes of character sheets of old NPC's and Players. We named 3 cats "Elminster, Dragon and Raksasha" His sister (one of our players) has a tattoo of an elf. Her sisters boyfriend (one of our players) has a tatoo of a minotaur. For Christmas, everyones present either rattles (dice) or is rectanglular and flat (books). My last 3 birthdays we celebrated by playing D&D. My roomate quit his old job because too much overtime left him "not enough time" for D&D DM'ing. If you total up the cost of all of our D&D materials that we have spent over the past 15+ years.. you are looking at a total cost of: $26,342 (estimated). Oh.. and we don't believe in miniatures, we believe that it detracts from roleplaying. |
| was_fired02-01-06, 07:27 PM | I have created loads of campaigns. Same I DM. Same I have played D&D for years. I only bought the game four years ago. Before then I was making up my own systems after hearing what D&D was. I have played: basic D&D, Advanced D&D 2nd edition, and 3rd edition D&D. Got me there I have so much personally made D&D stuff it fills at least half a dozen holders, boxes, binders, and other storage devices. More specifically: 13 hard covers, 10 soft covers, 25 dice, 7 modules, 3 boxed sets, and a cardboard box (not really big just small), 2 notebooks, 3 binders, and 3 stacks of personnaly made D&D and other stuff writings. Zero dice, zero boxes, zero modules, and four binders. I toss stuff when I'm done with it, and I use a TI83 for gaming. I have loads of character sheets. Who hasn't? Well unless you just make stat-block NPCs which is actually more frequent for me. I have even more adventures personnally created by myself. Why run an adventure you didn't make? I own three players handbooks. Only one, waste of money. I own more than a dozen hard covers (13), about the same in soft covers (actually 10), a dozen or so mudules (oops 7), 2 sets of dice + some d6's and a d20 not including those which come with the game (including some three small d6s a player gave me for my birthday painted with roman numerals for numbers and total dice not including those included in boxed sets of 25), and two dozen or so Dragon magazines (actually around 34.) No dice, no purchased content outside of the books. Why do I need help running games? I own a D&D computer game. More than I can say. I have two web blogs dedicated to D&D stuff. Zero I am a member of this wizards community thing. Aren't we all? I know what T.H.A.C.0 means (to hit armor class 0). Who doesn't? And last for now but not least I have created my own RPG's. Heh so? One of my two campaigns that I am currently running uses a system I built myself (roughly 100 pages typed single spaced without monsters). Before ever picking up a D&D book I made: 1. FUDD in Elementry School, the FUDD style extended beyond D&D and later included a redwall and lord of the rings style system. 2. A Babylon 5 game in middle school 3. A dark reign game in middle school 4. A kingdom ruling RPG in early HS 5. Another D&D esc game in mid HS 6. Now that I am in college, TOCC |
| Ranger REG02-01-06, 09:30 PM | I have a bunch of T-Shirts that date back to the 80's. Does that count? Not shirts. Underoos. |
| Patrakis02-01-06, 10:33 PM | I am a little ashamed to talk about this but here is the list of ever D&D book that i own. Pat's list (http://patoumonde.com/PATOUMONDE4/BookCollection/BookCollection.html) I have 2 copies of everyone of those books. One in its original packaging, never opened and one for gaming. Though i don't have it listed, every dragon magazine and dungeon magazine is in my collection. The oldest computer game that i have is curse of the azure bonds, and the gold box series. I woulnd't consider myself a fanatic, just an avid collector. Game on Pat |
| pangalactic02-02-06, 12:24 PM | I Trully can't compete :weep: Well I'm 20. I'll get up to that one day. I should keep my stuff... That's no excuse, I'm 19 and I've got loads more stuff than the OP (mostly from 2nd ed. AD&D, but lots from AD&D that belonged to my dad and obviously loads of 3E/3.5 stuff). Not that that's remotely important. I'm not going to engage in this game of "my **** is bigger than yours". |
| Sir Knight02-02-06, 03:49 PM | Not a fanatic. Pretty run-of-the-mill actually. I had each catagory beat (not bragging by any means!) before last month when I purged all but what I currently am using and a file of special old characters, maps, etc for nastalgia and I am definately not a "fanatic". A fan yes, D&D is my #1 hobby, but I'm not obsessive. There is nothing wrong with you if that is why you are asking. :) |
| Ranger REG02-03-06, 02:45 AM | There is nothing wrong with you if that is why you are asking. :) Shouldn't that be a winking smiley? ;) |

| ladyhedgehog02-03-06, 08:00 AM | i have often heard (and seen) that a DM's job is to create monsters well i am kinda new to the game (playin bout 3 months) and y husband is my DM and he ha s*created a monster* i just love the game and i dont intend to stop playin so have fun ppl |
| Ranger REG02-03-06, 07:16 PM | Well, creating a monster is one thing. Being a monster obsessed with D&D (outfitted with a Regdar Underoos™) is quite another. |
| Hasmead_Guy02-03-06, 08:33 PM | Well, creating a monster is one thing. Being a monster obsessed with D&D (outfitted with a Regdar Underoos™) is quite another. HA! LOL. Yeah, just last night I was wondering what people would do if I went around with a shirt with Elohnna or WeeJas on the front, that says the goddess is the only woman for me. Man some of these people are into it. 20 sets of dice? 30 books? |
| adelro2802-03-06, 09:22 PM | d4 = 11 d6 = 26 d8= 17 d10 = 31 d12= 17 d20= 22 giant d6= 1 giant d20 = 1 This is 20 years of dice folks. One set is actually made from stone. I've spent lots of dough on books and suppliments and miniatures over the years, but my DM makes me look cheap by comparison. |
| Arkonth02-03-06, 11:30 PM | I have exactly 121 dice. And am considering buying another pound. I really liked the first pound (it's really neat to see all the random cool dice you get). |
| adelro2802-03-06, 11:45 PM | My previous post doesn't even take into account the pound of dice that i also have. To hear people say they have 2 sets of dice and think it's a lot of dice, can't help but chuckle. |
| Jayr02-04-06, 05:51 PM | I consider myself an average to slightly-above-average D&D player. I've been playing D&D for more than a quarter of my life. I started playing after 3.0 and before 3.5; if you want to guess my age, go ahead. My book collection contains 24 books: 3.0 core and the ELH, four splatbooks, DD and MotP, M2, BoVD/BoED, the Book of Challenges, F&P, LM and the Draconomicon, HoH, the Complete series, 30 Years of Adventure, and Dungeons and Dragons for Dummies. I also have d20 Modern. I'm saving my money to start collecting the Races series and the Spell Compendium. I have 5 fair-sized (about 100-200 pages each) notebooks of D&D material and a separate binder. My D&D books have gone with me to the United States and even Mexico (as far as I've travelled so far). I get some 2ed books from the library to do monster conversions. I am also one of the 6% of female Dragon subscribers. My dice bag contains the remains of 5 individual sets of dice, plus a Burmese ivory gambling die, a gum eraser, a Dark Eldar Mandrake, and a USB memory card. On my USB memory card, I have the Sovelier & Sage SRD as well as 10 MB of D&D-related text files (I had more than three times that many that I ditched before converting to 3.5). There are loads of character sheets lying around my home-- within sight of me, there's one on the ground, one on top of the piano, and one in a folder of sheet music. In terms of D&D computer and video games, I own Neverwinter Nights, Myth Drannor: Pool of Radiance, and Eye of the Beholder. I went to the gaming convention at the CNE, but was so intimidated by the all-star guests (Gary Gygax and Clive Barker!) that I ended up spending most of the time sulking around the dealer's room. Sadly, I don't have more D&D books because I squander all my money on manga and anime. Yesterday I bought my 82nd manga, not counting all those 'disposable' periodicals like Wings and Hana to Yume. Anime is my virus. |
| Sulaco02-06-06, 09:31 AM | My previous post doesn't even take into account the pound of dice that i also have. To hear people say they have 2 sets of dice and think it's a lot of dice, can't help but chuckle. Too true. My wife is a very casual player - though she's been playing for more than 10 years and she still has to ask which die to roll in combat - and even she has something like seven sets of dice. |

| terrashand02-16-06, 04:21 AM | Books: Everything from 1st, 2nd, 2nd REV, 3.0 and 3.5 (unless anything has come out this month?) plus the orignal board game and Dragonstrike. d4 = 13 d6 = 115 (warhammer and shadowrun) d8= 25 d10 = 85 (V:TM) d12= 14 d20= 23 1/2 (found one in the yard while I was mowing) Giant d6's= 10 D100 = 5 Plus my daughter has a construction paper chain in her room made of paper dice of different counts. Started playing at 9 (brother and his friends are all 6 to 10 yrs older and I was evil as a little sibling). Started DM'in at 12 (my friends during inside recess of elementary school). Have been to GenCon for 8 years in a row. I went to High School with Andy Collins (writer for Dragon Mag and has helped with some WoTC books) who was our DM for DnD and our GM for Star Wars: D6. My 750 sq ft basement is nothing but gaming rooms and storage. My cats are named "Elven" and "Fighter" (don't ask I was drunk when the wife brought them home). I have somewhere around 25 games for the computer. 15 of those could be ran with Windows 3.1. I have a tat across my back of the Assasmite symbol from V:TM. 15K points of Warhammer mini's. 10K points of Warhammer 40K mini's. Enough Warhammer terrain that we could build Sliverymoon (besides the briges anyway but you can't see it much). My wife turned down a modeling photo shoot so we could go to GenCon this year. She wanted to play Shadowrun. Our daughter is 2 yrs old and can already go through the MM and name close to 66% of the critters. Who also chills out for 3 hours at a time and watches us play Warhammer. (parents will understand this) (Wife is a 22 yr old redheaded Tom Boy who plays soccer at her college and has been playing for 12 years now.) |
| bestplayeronline02-16-06, 04:52 AM | Very much a nerd duel. Anyways I'd rather stick to my casual gamer title and have a real life. How many women really like to come up to your apartment/house and see 800 magazines, gold dice, and rows upon rows of DnD material books.... Now really. I love the game and all, but i'd rather not be know as "that guy" |
| The Grig Fiddler02-16-06, 04:58 AM | ^^^^^ I agree thats why the ladies only see the D&D devotion after the trousers are off. |
| Talmar02-16-06, 09:34 AM | I also have just about every category beat as well. That kind of happens when you hit 20 years of playing. Some of my highlights...I still have one of the orginal pamphlets, before the 1e PHB was published. I have 6 PHB/DMG/MM's, pre 1e, 1e, 2e, 3e, 3.5e, 3.5e leather bound, (I'm still waiting for the MM leather bound), I also have the DnD coffee table book, I have a 2nd ed Trivia game, I have the DnD Clue Game, I buy dice by the pound as well as by the set, I have several hundred miniatures, I have at least a dozen CRPG's (not including MMORPG or expansions for my CRPG's), I've had a Dungeon/Dragon Subscription for as long as I can remember, I read the Knights of the Silver Dragon series (DnD novels for 8 to 12 year olds published by WotC) with my 10yr old at night and I've DM'd in 3 different states, in 4 different countries on 3 different continents. As many people here have pointed out, there are many many of us "fanatics" around. I'm not sure if fanatic is the word for it or not. DnD has been a part of my life so long it's really a part of who I am, not simply a hobby. |
| darkkhaine02-16-06, 11:09 AM | the fact that you post on these boards makes u a fanatic :) i wish i still had my d&d and 1e ad&d stuff but my mom burned it over that satanic scare. burned my star frontiers stuff too, just cause it was tsr. sigh  I hardly have anything anymore ive only owned one set of dice. I have my darksun stuff and some 2e books. Never really bought adventures always made my own. Ive dm a couple of campaigns but never anything too elaborate. |
| Wharin02-16-06, 11:17 AM | Everyone can buy a dozen dozen books and a plethora of dice. Anyone can right campaigns by the bakers dozen, and anyone can play older editions of games. Of course, ohe older and more independant you are, the easier it is to accomplish, but none of those things involve actual commitment, and be picked up and droped off as quickly as you want them to be. True fanaticism involves something more permanant, and much more of an investment that can blow up in your face if you decide that DnD isnt for you later in life. Now some of these might have been said before (and if thats the case, forgive me), but if you are looking for particular "elitism" among DnD nerds, consider the following to be of the more harder core things to do" -DnD tattoo... somewhere prominant, ...like your face (ooo a blazing holy symbol of Pelor would rock) -Name your kids after prominant figures in DnD, or maybe even after your one of your more favorite characters (I read that Raistlin spiked as a name for kids) -Change your *own* name to a prominant DnD figure, or one of your more favorite characters. (though not exactly the same, I did find a Ben Kenobi in the phonebook, once) -Build an addition to your house specifically for the purpose as a gaming room. Of course this has to be in the style of a dungeon (or medieval tavern). Anything less is crap! -Build a functional hobbit hole, obviously correctly sized for you. (Me and my wife heavily considered this, and is still our dream house if we ever win the lottery, provided we ever buy a ticket) ... Hmm... can't think of any other ideas, but more are sure to come. |
| Sulaco02-16-06, 11:37 AM | Very much a nerd duel. Anyways I'd rather stick to my casual gamer title and have a real life. How many women really like to come up to your apartment/house and see 800 magazines, gold dice, and rows upon rows of DnD material books.... Now really. Not many, but you only need one. ;) |
| DmofAlterak03-31-06, 04:30 PM | Well I may not be the most fanatic D&D player here but I do enjoy playing D&D. I thought that writing: "am I the most fanatic D&D player here" as a thread title might get a response and it seems I was right. I would like to say "Thankyou" to everyone who wrote in on this thread." Something I would like to write though is: "I would rather have imagination, creativity, and the ability to make up my own game stuff rather than: tons of books, mountains of dice, and hoards of miniatures; not to say that having these things dosen't mean your hard core it's just I would rather have the things outlined above instead. If anyone is interested I have a D&D play by post game thread on the map of the planes board under: Homebrew campaign of Illisinaria all can play all editions. Whether you have not played D&D before, are an experienced gamer, or anywhere in between I would be glad to have you so long as you play by the rules and everything works out good two of the main rules are: no evil characters and no badstuff. Good players and characters are welcome! |
| DmofAlterak03-31-06, 04:31 PM | i have a pencil, a set of dice, the phb and a smile :D "Practically all you need!" :) |
