alrighty im a DM and me and G have been playing together for a long time, about a year. now G likes to try new character types and everyone's already established that G is amazing with RUsh and kill types, kuz that's what he does nomatter what.... well senior G was trying an evil cleric in a good campeign, (needless to say this DIDNT work) and almost all he did was rush in with his mace, he died twice and was healed twice (this is the first part, first scene) the next time we were fighting a rough party of guys, abberations to be exact and he got his bones kicked to dust (a 13dmg critical hit making it 26dmg) so he rerolls and makes a paladin, in wich he does not utalize **** with he just rushs in with his flameburg and attacks, well he gets his ass beat by a level 6 diyamo in 2 hits.
he rerolls and makes a rouge, and the second the rouge is introduced he rushes into an electrically charged door, witch he had flagged as trapped, and dies about 3 seconds later after a failed will save.
so now after 2 days of rest he's making a fighter or barbarian, its set to be a surprise, so hopefully he finally got the jist of what he's good at
but i just want to know if killing him all these times was fair, i mean they were fair rolls on both parts, and mostly stupid descisions on his part, so idk tell me whatcha think
thanks in advance-DLN

While the *player* might not actually be stupid, the PCs he is playing are.
Fair? Yes. But are the other players having fun with this player's style?

You were right in accurately playing the monsters and NPC's. Evil clerics and Rogues don't run into battle blindly.

Barabrians, however, enjoy that kind of thing.

Yeah, that was fine. Some players, whether they make good choices or not, are just terribly unlucky. In my last campaign, half the deaths were one player's characters. The guy who refuses resurrection because he doesn't like the flavor.

It doesn't sound to me like you did anything unfairly. I would advise you not to think of this in terms of YOU killing HIS characters. You are just playing a natural response by NPCs and various obstacles to the actions of his characters. That his characters die is simply the result of those responses; responses he set in motion.

Our group calls this surging forward phenomenon "Narden darts in!" This is because I once had the King of All Disruptive Players in my group, and almost without exception, all of his characters darted through portals, doorways, into darkness, into lakes and oceans and rivers, over waterfalls, behind curtains, out windows, and pretty much through an opening anytime an opening presented itself. The worst (though strangely longest-lived) of these characters was a very powerful dwarf fighter named Narden.

Narden was mischievous in the extreme, and seemed to be a foil for all the worst habits of the player, who in turn, seemed to be trying to test the patience of the rest of us, to see how long and far he could go before being kicked out. It didn't help that the player was a naturally impatient person who was more interested in seeing what was next than resolving a current situation. Greed played a part, too, in that he wanted the first pick of any treasure that might be found further up.

As you can imagine, this behavior proved dangerous to everybody, and often fights would break out when the result of such "darting in" or "darting forward" was damage dealt to another character. Eventually, this was only one of many reasons the player was asked not to return. The danger to others part is something to keep in mind, and perhaps to bring up with the player. I mean, having one character act this way is fine, if it's his personality quirk, but all of them doing it means it's the player's personality quirk, and that probably hints at future trouble Out-Of-Character, amongst players.

well his dwarf barbarian is a pompus ******* but it fits his play style, i'd say every other character of his's personality tends to be full of it'self and often "forgets" the turn order and takes turns in the middle of the sequence

I recommend the following WoW video as catharsis. I don't play the game, but it makes me laugh every time. Ladies and gents, don't be that guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkCNJRfSZBU).

That said, I agree you seem to have handled his deaths properly. If it continues to happen, though, you may need to talk with him. Mutual respect is the basis for a fun game, in my experience.
