| Naysay3r06-21-05, 03:30 AM | Howdy! Last week our group was kicking back and playing some sci-fi games, and I threw on a bunch of ambient space music i'd loaded up on my ipod... WOW! the result was awesome! it really gave the game a great feel! Now I was just wondering if there was any one out there who used ambient music in D&D, and if so does any one know if there are people who provides this kinda thing for free, like they do for sci-fi stuff? I'd be really keen to try it out :D -Naysayer |

That said, something too familiar might distract your players instead of help the mood. If you can get a hold of the OST for the old PS1 game Xenogears it has a lot of good music for most occasions, city, temple, dungeon, battle, etc. With the added benefit of being from an obscure game that most people don't know. In fact, game soundtracks might very easily be the way to go. I haven't used music very often, but on the few occasions when I did it worked nicely. |

| Iron Cobra06-21-05, 04:22 AM | Diablo II, or Diablo II Lord of Destruction music is quite good. If you have Aim, MSN, Yahoo or ICQ I can share you a few good remixes my friends made. :) |
| High King Tigernmas06-21-05, 04:57 AM | 'Rundgang Um Die Tranzendentale Saule Der Singularitat', by Burzum and any of the other ambient pieces are good (if too short in comparison, the named one being 25 minutes long...4 notes...). |
| Yalius06-22-05, 05:00 PM | My selections for music are a little more modern and a little more unusual. For a combat with a group of drow I might throw on Alice Cooper's Poison; for a fight against undead, Evanescence's Bring Me to Life; for a fight with warforged, Black Sabbath's Iron Man, things like that. Music that would create the same sort of emotional responses in the players as the situation would for the characters. Kind of a sympathetic reaction. For the Drow, that feeling of kind of hate and attraction at the same time, against undead the feeling of age and weariness and yearning, for warforged the sort of xenophobia and hatred felt by their opponent. Music that kind of adds to the plot rather than just being ambiance. |
| Wotc_Mark06-22-05, 06:52 PM | There was a cool ambiance music CD produced in 2003 by Midnight Syndicate. You might still be able to find a copy around somewhere. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20030421x MJ  |
| Steelgryphon06-22-05, 07:07 PM | Halo and Halo 2's sound tracks, there pretty easy to find on P2P programs, thats what i use. Also, some of the FF stuff is good for BBEGs |
| Zodan06-22-05, 08:02 PM | Where can you find the Diablo II music Iron Cobra? |
| Overwatch06-22-05, 08:16 PM | right here! (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/mp3/) |
| Zodan06-22-05, 09:54 PM | Oh ok thanks, is that where yall get them? I found that when I started searching, I guess I just gotta wait another week  |
| ShadowWarrior06-22-05, 10:07 PM | I'd recommend most of the Final Fantasy soundtracks, particularly the Final Fantasy VII Original Soundtrack. Those Chosen By The Planet is an awesome piece for introducing the main villain. |
| Tyler Do'Urden06-23-05, 12:42 AM | Tool is far and away the best music for D&D combat. Every time I hear Lateralus, I have this whole short film of Rise and Fall of a Dragon King that plays in my head. If it feels a little too technological for D&D, Third Eye Open is a bunch of Tool songs as performed by a string quartet. |
| Baned06-23-05, 10:30 AM | - Apocalyptica (Cello Quartet that's done Metallica covers) - Nobuo Uematsu (Composer of Final Fantasy music) - Yasunori Mitsuda (Composer of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross) - Koji Kondo (Composer for craploads of Nintendo games, including Zelda series) - Midnight Syndicate (as mentioned above, plus their other albums are good too) :twocents: |

| Transit06-23-05, 12:36 PM | The "Conan The Barbarian" movie soundtrack is good for D&D. Also "Braveheart." Also "Willow" If you can find it, the music tracks from the old computer game "Fallout" has some great moody background music that works for both fantasy and science fiction games. And there are also a lot of inexpensive New Age "Relaxation" CD's that have primitive drums/flute music mixed with the sounds of a thunderstorms, rain, sounds of the jungle or forest, etc. Good for adding atmosphere to sentry duty around the campfire, or traveling/exploring during different kinds of weather. And what works really great is to take the music you've collected and burn all the loud, heroic music onto one CD and label it "Combat", all the quieter stuff onto a CD and label it "Exploring." One CD for "Tavern" music. One for "Cities and Towns." One for "Travelling" etc. etc. Then you can switch CD's depending upon what's happening in the game. It's even better if you have a CD player that handles multiple disks, and has a remote control to switch disks. Hit the "combat music" when a fight begins, and switch back to the quieter "exploring music" when the fight is over. |
