We are presently playing a campaing, we are 8 players plus the dm. Somehow, we all choose to be fighters. We never consulted each other about it. I guess there's as many chance of rolling a 20 then this hapening. I asume this is becose there was one hell of a tpk last campaing. It wasen't really the dm who had badly juged the CR, but just a total badluck. I would like to know what you would do if you were in that party. One decided to get two weapon, second got one big weapon, third is shield and a nice weapon. They make one hell of a nice trio. I was thinking of maybe completing this by adding another set of skills. I don't have lots of dexterity, so bow and arrows, that's out. I have respectable stats everywere, no minus, all at least +1 exept one stat. My thougth was to go with mounted combat skills. What do you think? With a lance, that would mean double damage when charging, add the nescessairy feats for weapon focus, specialisation etc...

In a party of fighters, the cleric is king. That way your character can say, "who's your healer?"

You could always get the Chain  . Try maybe a two weapon style, like shortsword and longsword, or something. Throwing is out of the question, huh? Maybe a reach weapon, or something exotic. Sorry I couldnt help much.

Take a few cross-class ranks of Use Magic Device and a wand of Cure Light Wounds...if you're level enough. Perhaps even Skill Focus to make sure you can use the device somewhat reliably - its not like you're short on feats or anything. Most fighters tend to spend ranks on jump an never use it anyway :)

If you go the mounted route, make sure you familiarize yourself with the rules - it's one aspect of the game I've rarely seen used, and most of my players wouldn't even know when to make a ride check - so no telling if you may need to keep your DM up-to-spec on what to do with mounted combat.

I've had some fun (and marginal success) with NPC fighter builds combining reach weapons and armor spikes - perhaps you could look into that one.

When I said one of them went with a double weapon I guess my term wasen't clear. I ment he is using two weapons. You migth have mistaken it as a weapon that is used with both hands. Sorry for any confusion there, I fixed my first post. Also, Lance is a doubles up for a reach weapon when i'm not using it on the back of a horse. It's a nice idea.

I spent ranks on jump and they served me well already. I was in a tree trying to get an archer an he decides to jump off. I imitated him, jumped with my sword to cut him in half. :D

Not having a high dex kind puts a cramp on it, but a "style" you might try is the maneuver/ duelist type. One weapon, no shield, light or no armor, but maneuver crazy- trips, disarms, tumbles, feints- that sort of thing. Basicly, take Expertise and some of its followups. And if you can, take the Duelist PrC- adding Int to AC and elaborate parry can let you keep up with the sword and shield guy at the front lines with an equally untouchable AC.

If I remember right, my exact stats are 16 str, 13 dex, 13 cons (with a +5 bonux from an object for 18. This is an object made for the campaign and each of us has one with different effects), 14 int (3 skill point per level aint much, 2 more always help, plus the added languages), 11 wis, 12 cha. Mostly average stats, but none in the negative. I might have mistaken a the 12 of my dex and that of my cha, but it's the same modifier anyway. The duelist idea is quite nice, i'll have to try that one of thoses days. I maxed out my skills, I have ranks in jump, swim, ride, handle animal, and the rest of the points I don't know where. I got one long and one short sword right nowm an amor, a heavy steel shield, plus rations, but new equipment can always be bought. Note that i'm level 1 right now and have enought xp, so i'll be adding my second level at the begenning of next session.

If everyone is a different style fighter this could be interesting, personally... I like the idea of flanking....that could help out accuracy, and it puts the enemy in a tight spot.

You could include some archery types. There's the trip/disarm fighter, a grappler to handle those pesky spellcasters. Reach weapon with combat reflexes is another option. You can even have one that goes all out on defense that uses combat expertise and improved combat expertise, total defense and fight defensively.

Well, there's two schools of thought on this.

On the one hand, a large enough group of fighters can take out just about anything. You know what they say; if Brute Force didn't work, it's because you didn't use enough.

On the other hand, a group of straight fighters is a group of really crappy reflex and will saves. Fly, fireball, fireball, charm the one with the least damage and ask him to go away, magic missle, magic missle.

You're better off starting with a balanced party and multiclassing into fighter. One of the most powerful parties I was ever in was a barbarian/fighter, a cleric/fighter, a monk/fighter, a paladin, and a sorcerer/dragon disciple. If we didn't win an encounter through combat, we didn't really win an encounter.

If we didn't win an encounter through combat, we didn't really win an encounter.

Problem is, the game is already started. There's already been at least one fight, I missed one session so I don't know bout that one but I guess it was mostly setting up the story (and rolling new scores). If I could, I probably would have gone archer priest or something like that. A group of fighters is strong, but they run out of gaz sooner or latter, the priest can make sure they keep going longer thought with that many, it would be one hell of a drain on the healing spells, but it's a bit late for that.

Anyways, on the fight we had, we were 4 out of the 8 or so, with quite a few enemies and it was a total trashing contest. Even thought were all level one, some of the group can already hit for an amazing 15 to 20 damage. That takes out most the enemies one hit.

We play with the full hp rule. In other word, we get the maximum possible on our dice without rolling when we level up, but the monsters also get the same treatment so it doesn’t unbalance it really. Dm is a fun guy to play with, even thought he lacks a bit on the role-play side, he can make stories that really you could never think of. Real life is a game for him, so imagine in DnD...

Obviously, with the amount of fighters in the party, this is going to be mostly a hack and slash campaign. Already, the campaign is barely started and there's war. The city we were in got attacked and we escaped throught a carefully hiden tunel. This was planned by the dm, since we were two different groups at the time and he needed to join us somehow. Anyhow, with that war going on, the mysterious stones that are common to all of us and the rest, it's going to be an interesting campaing but one with a lot of killing. Social skill aren't a nescessity. Kill first, ask questions latter like they say.

Roleplay, we don't know much of what is going on, and as for the stones we only know the legend about them. I will quote my dm: "It is said that powerfull dragons roamed the world 15,000 years ago and that they were imprison for their sins whithin stones." Meta talking, we know more, as the fact that we could break the stones to call one of thoses dragons and that they give us some special habilities, but that's another story.

Anyhow, I will go with mounted combat and reach weapon for now, specialising myself with the lance. If anyone has good sugestions on how to do this, it would be welcomed.

Any sugestion on how I could build it? Feats, skills equipment etc...

Some of the feats you would want are:
Weapon Focus/ Specialization: better to hit and damage
Improved Critical: crits with a lance HURT, better to get them more often
Mounted Combat: save your mount from damage, and its a big prereq
Ride-by Attack/ Spirited Charge: you'll do even more damage, and have the chance to charge round after round
Trample: let your mount get some attacks on the ride-by
Power Attack/ Cleave/ Great Cleave: for when you really want to dump out the damage, and as you only get 1 attack on the charge, might as well use it to shish-ka-bob several weak things when you do so

As for skills: the obvious is Ride, but you might want to look into Handle Animal as well. If you're going for the "knight in shining armor" feel, Diplomacy would probably fit.
