| rivaltuna07-26-06, 01:17 AM | I just wrote this quest, and I would like to share it with you all. I created what I call The Death Touched template, which is more of a racial bonus. It is given to all creatures who are the offspring of a Vampire, or other intellegint Undead. If you would like stats, ask. Quest IV Lahedron and his beginning. As the PCs are walking through town and exchanging with the bazaar, a D% roll of 46 or lower begins this quest. A clearly pregnant Half Elf wearing a flowery green gown walks past them and smiles at them. When they walk another 2D20 feet, they hear a commotion from a nearby part of town. A Gather Information check of 12 reveals the nearby people are whispering about a baby being born. A check of 17 remembers the half elf who walked by before. Upon going to the house, and entering, explain there is a dwarf midwife helping the girl give birth, and there is another half elf and a human standing there nervously. The half elf male walks over to you hurries you out the door, stammering nervously and looking pale. His skin is pale green, his hair a darker shade, and he has a large birthmark under his left ear. The Half Elf begins to scream, and soon afterward you hear the dwarf cry in outrage. A human shouts "INDALGO, NO!" The Half elf male standing with the PC's faints at this point. A heal check of 16 brings him conscious but he cannot move. Inside the hut, the dwarf is has his axe poised above his head, ready to bring it down on the baby, but the human held him firmly by the arm. Beneath a sheet on the bed is an outline of a Half elf, stomach visibly swollen. The dwarf says "Tha- tha THING killed Mieli! (mee ell ee) The human: No, she died giving birth, do you think she would want you to hurt the baby? Dwarf: *lowers axe* IT ISNT EVEN ALIVE! LOOK AT IT! Human: What do you mean? Dwarf: *calmly* It isn't breathing, and it has no heartbeat. Human: *reaching for the baby* That can't be, its moving. The human lets out a yelp and jumps back, and says, Great Pelor, what has occurred here?? The NPCs then talk to the PCs. Talk accordingly. When they are done with their questions The half elf walks in, pale, and with vomit on his shirt. I heard what happened. I heard everything. The baby must be the son of a vampire. A death-touched, they call it. The baby is but 6 months old, and it is already born. The dwarfs eyes narrow, and his face flushes red. He says "Son of a vampire eh? Ill not let one in this town! He raises his axe, but promptly lowers it when the Half elf says his next words. "No, I think we should give him a chance. What say you?" Gesturing towards the PCs. I say we find out more about this child before we condemn him. We should name him too. Since he is my nephew, I will name him Lahedron. The Human says Perhaps we should ask one of the scholars of the Academy of the Stars for information? Or maybe the old wizard who lives to the north of town, I hear that he specializes in the turning of undead creatures. Or maybe check the library? At the Library, the PCs make spot checks to find the book they are looking for, entitled Libris Mortis. A spot check of 15 finds the book in 6 D10 minutes. When found, read the following to the players: A child sired by a Vampire was cause for celebration in many primitive cultures. The child itself is not evil, despite its foreboding ancestry, and depending on how the child is raised determines its alignment. Vampire children referred to as "Death Touched," have many powers that one could consider unnatural. Although they can feed off of animal blood as well as human blood, they are not as powerful as true vampires. That said, they have many, many times the strength of a natural humanoid such as an elf, human, or even an orc. They can attain gaseous form at will, and can climb walls as a spider. They also display a great intelligence, and are very charismatic. They display acts of incredible balance and coordination, and can perform impossible acrobatics and speed with ease. Children of Vampire Lords, such as Arkanue (ARE KANE YOO) are immensely powerful, and are also thusly very dangerous. Upon arriving at the wizards tower, they are greeted by a Celestial Dire Badger, and A Celestial Black Bear. If they say even one thing chaotic or Evil, jokingly or not, the creatures attack. Regardless, upon reaching the tower, they hear a disembodied voice say "Come on in. I await your presence. Or you await mine. Or how does it go? Or does it matter?" The Wizard is dressed in a scarlet robe covered with crescent moons and stars, painted gold and black. His staff is a withered oak with an enormous blue sapphire at the top. He is wearing what appears to be a large, Grey dead rodent on his head. Ah hello, Yes this is a live ferret (the ferret picks his head up and looks at the PCs than lays down again) and no I cannot read minds. I am just used to the question. He leads the Player Characters up to the third floor, where there is a large cage containg two trees. A spot check of 7 sees the dark elf contained inside. The wizard says "This is my pet drow, Eliza. I caught her attempting to break in 5 years ago and she's been here ever since." The drow casts the PCs a sour look. The fourth floor is not really a floor at all, but is covered in solid, walk able clouds. The fifth floor is a bedroom with many musty, dusty thick tomes. Wizard: My scrying has told me that you wish information on a Death Touched Infant, this is true, no? He tells you all he knows (repeat and reword information listed before) and tells you that in the Abyss, there is a Vampire Ancient named Bazeloth, son of Arkanue has made a pact with several necromancers in nearby towns and settlements. The pact is that he will give demon servants, under their total control, straight from the 9 Hells of Baator, to them in exchange for a favor. What this favor is, he does not know. Upon leaving the tower, they are attacked by an Ogre Skirmisher. The Scholar cannot be reached. On the return to town they see smoke in the distance. Upon arriving at the town, they see the entire town ablaze. Demons and Devils are running amock, and a succubus swoops from the sky to attack the PCs. People screaming and running in every direction, this is the epitome of chaos. After several minutes, people stop screaming. There is only the sound of fire and cracking wood, with the occasional burst as a house implodes, or shout of a man wounded. In the town square is the Dwarf, Human, and Half Elf holding the child. Several blocks away is a Huge Fire Elemental. A shout is heard, followed by a crack, and long jets of water shoot from random spots in the town, all pouring down on the Elemental, reducing it to nothing. All of the summonded evil creatures dissolve in a plume of smoke and a burst of light, banished back to the Abyss. A ball of liquid and florescent red and orange flame hits the human square in the chest, killing him instantly. Blood pours from his mouth as he says his last words "Watch ou-" The rest is lost to death. The Magma Hurler Responsible looms about 20 feet away from the PCs, the Dwarf and Half Elf tell you to take it out, they are in no condition to fight anymore than they have agaisnt the Quasits. As they are done, they talk with them about the Welfare of the Baby, and the Dwarf tells them that the whole town burned because of him. He is the son of a Vampire Ancient, and a Lord at that. The vampire offered power to whoever would bring him his son, and a portal was opened and that was almost acomplished. As he is done speaking, an oval consisting of red orange and yellow swirls, with purple flames licking the edges appears roughly 10 feet away, and out walks a Humanoid with silky black hair, and delicate features. He also has large, fanged teeth, and a feral look in his eyes. (the image of the vampire is below) He says "So long have I waited for this.. So long, but no longer!" He strides over to the Half elf, and with a mere flick of his wrist sends the half elf flying back many feet into the nearest building. He holds the baby with his left hand, and walks calmly away, back into the portal. The dwarf charges and screams "NOO!!!" and swings his greataxe as the portal vanishes. Moments later, another portal appears, and out steps a the baby, although he is not a baby any more. He is a fully grown. (image below) He has gorgeous blonde hair, beautiful yet delicate features, and a deep and resounding stare. He is wearing spiked and wicked black armor, and is carrying the head of the Vampire Ancient, his father, held by the hair, in his left hand. He says to the PCs There is little time to explain, I will bring you to an altar of my fathers worshipers who are planning to summon a Baalor, greatest of demons. I will handle one, but I leave the other to you. He walks over to them, and touches each of their foreheads with 2 fingers. Read the following to the PCs "You feel a rush of wind, followed by numbing cold, followed by a strange burning sensation, all the while feeling as though you were spinning rapidly. You appear in the middle of a swamp at a large Building. Inside are necromancers working on a magic circle. Upon defeating them, the Vampire Returns to you and brings you back to the town, the Dwarf, and the Human. The Half elf did not survive the impact with the building. |
