Ancestral Relic and a Daisho/Double Weapon [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-10-04, 12:10 PM I had a question about the feat Ancestral Relic and a daisho (a katana and a wakizashi). I was wondering if it would be possible to use the Ancestral Relic feat on the "daisho" instead of just on either the katana or the wakizashi. What I was thinking would be that each weapons would have to be enchanted separately, and the magical properties of the two wouldn't work unless both weapons were on the person (if not wielded at the same time). In this manner it would sort of be treated as if it were a two ended weapon.

The only thing I see stopping that from happening is that it says, "No character may have more than one ancestral relic," but if it were a daisho, than it would technically be one relic, simply composed of two weapons.

Another thing I was wondering, what if the Ancestral Relic was a double weapon? Would each end be enchanted separately? Would you only be able to enchant up to the maximum relic value on the whole weapon (at fifth level split the 4,500 gp in order to make both ends +1 magic weapons)?

08-10-04, 12:31 PM That's a very, very good question. But, I think that(unless I misread) that since you enchant your Katana and Wakizashi seperately, that you could only have one of them be your relic. That's just my assumption though.

08-11-04, 03:07 AM I'd let you do both as your 'relic", but I'd say you'd have to pay double, of course. In other words, I'd say you'd have to enchant them both as equally as possible, and pay for the full enchantment.

08-11-04, 12:39 PM By the rules, it wouldn't work. But I don't see any problem with house-ruling it for that combo. Its not severely unbalanced. I'd suggest splitting the bonuses rather than doubling it (by applying it to each).
