The following is true, unless it has already been errata'd:

AR is a must have item for spontaneous casters, especially sorcerers. Just take a ring or something, and add spell like abilities that you can use X times per day. Value can be determined easiliy, and you can use all sorts of spells that you do not have on your list, since you do not have to have the prerequisites...

Yup you're right, good observation. Unlike the kensai the ancestral relic feat doesn't have to have weapon properties, only the maximum value is specified, so you can make it an effective wand or rod of sorts.

There is one disadvantage:
Suppose you put magic missile at will and eagle's splendor at will in it. If you used two rings instead of the weapon the cost'd be 2*3*2000 (splendor) + 1*1*2000 (magic missile)= 14000 gp
If you put in a relic the cost'd be 2*3*2000 (splendor) + 1*1*2000*2 (magic missile)=16000 gp.

If you put two properties in one slot the lowest cost will be doubled. (for example a cloack of protection +5 which gives another +2 natural armor will cost the normal price for a cloack of protection +5 plus twice the cost of a item of +2 natural armor)

The lowest cost is multiplied by 1.5, not doubled.

Doesn't the feat require that the item be of masterwork quality? Where do you get a masterwork cloak or ring?

(on a completely unrelated note, what does everyone think of my sig? insn't that the truth huh? oh, and how do i set up links in my thread?)

The ancestral relic feat states you can put anything in the weapon as long as it's under the price limit, so you can put stuff in it you can't in a normal sword. You could for example make an axe which gives you +4 con, +5 natural armour, + 5 deflection etc.... Enhancement normally reserved for wondrous items.

About your sig: fantastic :D, personally, would I ever in such a battle I'd just take a can of compressed foam (you know the kind you use in isolation) and spray the guy's windpipe full with quickly drying and expanding foam. Supersaiyan ya way outta that.

I don't know if that is according to the rules... but in our group, if you have the requisite feats, you can do so. It doesn't really matter wether you make an Amulet of Natural Armor+5 or a +3 Greatsword of Natural Armor +5. Of course, if you add it to the sword it will cost 150%, but hey, if you want to... You'd just need to be able to make the standard item for the bonus to be able to make it something else.
