"B" Superscript in new statblock format [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-02-07, 11:26 AM Can anyone give me a definite answer on what this means and why it was included in the new statblock format?

I've google'd various answers none of which make any sense when compared against actual printed blocks in DMGII and MMIV.

04-02-07, 11:40 AM Because if you tweak the creature/monster for your own purposes, it lets you know which feats you probably shouldn't change.

Mostly its for DMs that want to create custom monsters.

Really, the new statblock doesn't need it, though -- I wish they'd use BOTH statblocks, the old ones for monster listings, the new ones for encounter summaries.

04-02-07, 11:54 AM It is also very useful when a player uses Alter Self or Polymorph to take the form of that creature. They get those racial bonus feats, but not the ones the creature "took" with its hit dice.

The line gives the creature’s feats. A monster gains feats just as a character does. Sometimes a creature has one or more bonus feats, marked with a superscript B (B). Creatures often do not have the prerequisites for a bonus feat. If this is so, the creature can still use the feat. If you wish to customize the creature with new feats, you can reassign its other feats, but not its bonus feats. A creature cannot have a feat that is not a bonus feat unless it has the feat’s prerequisites.
