Okay! This thread is all about your increadable stories from D&D. Be it funny, kickass, awesome, infuriating, heart-wrenching, random or tragic, it makes no difference! Tell us about it. These are the kinds of stories that you will tell your grandchildren as they sit around your rockingchair, flipping through the 6th ed PHB.

Honestly, I have not been around D&D long enough to have any good stories but if I remember any I will post them.

Let the good times roll,

The Count :dragon:

Ok, why not?

Background: (I'll make this as brief as possible without butchering it.)

We are a male kitsune rogue (me), a female fennec (it's a subspecies of fox) ranger, a male fox/rabbit cleric/sorc, and a kitsune bard. (this is an anthro game) Anyways...

Our group of 4 is in the military as part of the same special task force, and overnight a buncha goblins snuck into our war camp and stole some stuff, so our CO ordered us to get it back. That isn't the focus of this though. The focus of this is the bard, who is CN. Played as CS. Said bard kept using allies as cover when he wasn't even being attacked (or would be seriously threatened if they did attack, these were just grunts), and generally acting increasingly insane and getting on everyone's nerves both IC and OOC.

Fast forward a bit and the cleric/sorc and the bard are outside the goblin leader's room, whereas the rogue and ranger are in another area of the cave. Ranger ended up running into an ambush, so the alarm was sounded and the leader and minions were ready. Cleric/sorc asks for a plan of action. Bard suggests charging in recklessly. (remember bard and not barb) Cleric/sorc tells him to go for it sarcastically. He actually does so. Enter one now 3 hp bard. He swings his morningstar once, then gets dropped to -5 by the leader. Rogue and ranger accidently surprise cleric/sorc, they fill each other in, make a plan of attack involving the kitsune spell like ability to create illusions to distract most of them as well as more mundane tactics like tricking em into fighting in the doorway so they can't all attack, succeed in a battle that would normally be well beyond their ability, and save the bard at -9.

Once the rogue figured out just how he came to die, he made a point of "accidently" dragging the unconscious but stable body over rocks and such. (no damage, but meant to be humilating) Mission complete shortly after... but this isn't the good part. The good part is when said rogue decided the idiot bard was a serious threat to them all. After all, if the goblins had bothered to look outside of the room they would have seen the cleric/sorc there all alone and he'd be no match for that many of them at once. Especially since both the leader and the second in command were higher level than him, and a third the soldiers were the same level, the rest being 1 level lower.

Anyways... Bard ended up being healed fully by the CO, everyone is in town. Bard is performing in the theatre, everyone else is shopping, walking around town... This is where the plan comes into play. First he (the rogue) tells the ranger about it. She is a bit shocked at first and doesn't want to go along with it, but he convinces her it's necessary and the only way to avoid their death or worse. (if we should be caught by the enemy on our mission, death is the best thing we can hope for, so it is definitely a must to have competent teammates) The two of them convince the cleric/sorc together, and have a much easier time of this.

All 3 of em go and buy multiple flasks of alchemist fire as part of the plan. Rogue carefully loads em all into pack, the 3 of em go to see the show. Rogue slips off, uses spelllike ability to assume the form of a normal fox, sneaks backstage via a crack in the boards, climbs up into the rafters, and moves across to over the bard. Others meanwhile are in the crowd. Bard finishes his performance, audience throws some money at him (rping out the result of his perform check), then the rogue strikes. He reverts to natural form, then uses his SLA to create an illusion of an obviously fire oriented wizard. Illusion wizard makes a gesture with his staff, and a pillar of fire engulfs the bard. At the same time, rogue drops the bag and hits. Now the thing is - the illusionary fire did no damage. The real fire from the alchemist fire however did 15d6. However because the illusionary fire was there, noone seen the bomb bag drop! So, all onlookers simply thought the wizard did it. He actually made his will save to disbelieve the illusion, but since he was dropped to like -15 from full health a split second later the DM ruled he didn't even have time to process that before being reduced to ashes. Never saw it coming, IC or OOC.

Anyways, wizard appears to cast something else and then vanishes. (the goal being it would seem as if he teleported away) Rogue SLA alter selfs back into a fox, and backtracks. He meets up with the others, and they go back to the inn as if nothing happened, put up a good front when asked... A bit later a mysterious thief (again the rogue using SLA alter self) steals most of his stuff to sell off. Coin is split between the three characters.

Bard ended up being brought back from the dead because the DM was feeling nice. However the bard was a magnet for bad luck. First some guy tried to :censored: him, and then he ran afoul of an angry mother brown bear when out getting firewood that night for the camp. Well, it was originally going to be a black bear. But he goes and cracks open the MM right in front of everyone, openly metagaming. So it became a black furred brown bear. Even so, the DM held back a lot... after all, the bear could have full attacked and dropped him in 1 round easily, he stuck to single attacks. Didn't take advantage of the improved grab ability either. After being smacked once for 2/3rd his hp, bard tries various ill thought out approaches, which of course fail. Bear crits him next turn, he flies halfway across the forest from the force of the blow. Ok, slight exaggeration. But this time he's dead and staying dead.

And yes, the rogue has an evil side, though he isn't evil aligned... yet. :P

In one of our Ravenloft games, the party salted the inside of Gregor Zolnik's (a skin changer were wolf) human skin, trapping him in wolf form. Zolnik sealed the borders, and began tracking them down, eventually ambushing them in the woods. The party mage tossed up rope trick, and the party began climbing in. Unfortunately, Zolnik was a bit faster, and snagged the rogue as he was about to get in. Thinking quickly, the mage cast a specialized reduce spell on the hapless rogue, which shrunk him to about a foot in height. The rogue slipped out of his clothes and Zolnik's teeth, and began climbing again, but was grabbed another time. The mage cast Grease on the rogue, who squirted out of zolnik's maw for the second time. Unfortunately the grease didnt improve his climbing ability, and he ended up being fatally bitten in the third attack. And thus died nude, shrunk, and greased up. Easily the most embarassing and funny PC death I've ever seen. At least they didnt have to dig a big hole.

Two of my less fortunate players ended up with a unique curse - they grew gills. This happened in the middle of a dungeon crawl, with absolutely no bodies of water nearby for them to jump into. So they're basically just rolling around on the floor, gasping, while the rest of the party tries to think of some way to help them.

"We've got a portable hole, right?"

"Right."

"And you're a druid, right?"

"Right."

"Can you cast conjure water?"

"Yeah, but where would all the water go... OH."

So the rest of the party had to carry the newly amphibious back to the temple in a portable hole, filled with water. It was like a goldfish in a ziploc bag.

We had just finished a leg of the campaign that required us to return to a long lost city in the desert that we had uncovered some time back. In the center of the city was a gigantic magical stone bowl that had the locations of various "lost" items and places written on it. As we were on another continent, and we did not want to travel for months on end to get there only to come back, we tried something a little faster. A NPC created a portal in the center of a rug (think of the "middle easter" type) that would drop us just out side of the city.

The first three of us droped through just fine, but the last character declared that he grabed the edges of rug as he dropped through. Its worth pointing out that he was on his fourth of fifth RACE by this point (death can do that), and who knows what class he was by that point. He could be described as chaotic-get-us-all-killed. We probably would have ended up just stuck in the desert if he had let go after he got to our side, but he held on with a death grip. The DM decided that he started to loop, and he went through the portal faster and faster, as there was nothing but air friction to slow him down. The three of us tried to get him to let go, at the same time all thinking about the whole interdimensional space thing and explosions. The faster the idiot fell, the more energy was built up in the gate, and each time he looped, the more "broken" it got.

The dummy finally let go, and took the bite when hit the ground (which wasn't that much because he had wings to help slow him down. But the gate had so much momentum by this point that it was lighting up the sky. We made for the city as fast as we could, strait for the "quest bowl". We managed to get to it and jumped inside just as the gate vaporized... everything else. The magic of the bowl protected us, and we found our selfs in the middle of a sea of iridescent dark purple glass. (There is only one place on earth where this substance is found, at the sight of the worst nuclear incident in history).

So there we were, sitting in the middle of a lethally radioactive zone that extended as far as the eye can see, with no way to get back, and no food. No, we did not eat the... er... what ever he was by that point. We did get out of it, but that is another wierd story.

I wasn't going to do this one, but after reading the greased rouge...

This wasn't in a dnd game, but a game named... lets say that it was named after our tentacled ed master who shall not be named (but is now in D20). It was set during WW2, and we were either brits or commonwealthers put together for a special mission. But before we were even introduced, let alone breefed, assassins attacked our ship as it sat in the Alexandra harbor. One character was a Scott who quickly established his catchphrase as "It's A Kilt!" In the struggle with the assassin, they both went over the rail, with the Scott holding on to the bad guys legs. The assailant's grip on the railing held, but his belt did not. Off went the the pants, and down went the Scott. He, of course, failed at swimming and drowned.

The Scott died in a skirt holding another mans pants. The player never lived that one down (and hopefully never will). John, if your reading this, its been what, 10-12 years, but... Ha Ha.

Its also worth noting that the player running that character was the same one that messed things up in the story I posted above.

hate to sound like a stick in the mud, but there have to have been hundreds of threads like these that pop up fairly regularly. If you look through just about any of the forums here you will see a few of them

But they're just so fun...

lesee, what do i have... not much, but one time when me, my bro and a friend tried to do a D&D adventure (1st time we tried) we got to a dragon, and then his mom came and picked him up. Every time we would try to get into combat with the dragon in later days, his mom would come. It's a running joke to this day- "we're gonna have dragon stew tonight"

I was playing a 3rd lvl human Cleric, and I had freshly aquired a very nice alchemicle silver heavy mace. We had been asked by a dwarf wizard to clear the kobolds out of his tower. We had to go in through the caverns underneath because the kobolds had blocked the door. As we crawl through the cavern we come to a room with a 40 ft wide chasm. There is a rope bridge, but it has no hand holds. And on the other side are 9 kolbolds with short bows. Our ranger starts firing arrows at the kobolds but can't see so the wizard cast farie fire on a few of them. We figure that we can use the bridge like monkey bars, so while the ranger fires arrows the fighter and me decide to go for it. Before I go I cast light on my mace and go. At the end of the bridge we have to make a DC 10 Stg check to pull ourselves up. the fight barely makes the check, but gets up and is surrounded by kobolds. On my turn i get to the end and roll a nat 20. Our DM describes my dismount from the bridge and a near Jedi arieal flip. Made even more cool by the light bearing mace.

After this we get into the tower we have several encounters with %^&*ing rust monsters and I barely saved my mace at the expense on my armour. Also one of our party sets a summoned demon free. So when we get to the top of the tower the dwarf is there with some other sinister figure. And they want all of our gear. I am not giving up the mace. It was a gift from my canon. Looking at both the dwarf and the BBEG, I drop my shield and grab my mace with both hands, ready to fight fo it. Before i can charge they drop through a trap door after they throw two jars with rust monsters in them. I go to attack the lackey they left behind and roll a 1. Instead on taking damage i choose to drop the mace. This attracks the rust monster. I watch in horror as my mace is reduced to nothing. I go over and with a penalty beat the rust monster to death with my bare hands. The other one too. My cleric now has a level in barbarian. and the party avoids me a little because I twitch some.

In one epic scale campaign, our party rescued a big badass monster who pledged allegiance to our cause. He had amnesia, so he asked us to give him a name. After about 5 full minutes of silence, someone in the group blurted "Bob!"

And thus was the legend of Bob born.

In a one shot campaign when we were first learning the rules, my group had to accomplish a series of tasks in order to speak with an oracle. One challenge was finding a glass orb in a small alcove up on the side of a cliff.
So, our party rogue who had a decent amount of skills in climb voluntered. Several rolls where he almost failed, he finally found the glass orb. As he was about to climb back down, it dawned on me

"I can fly" in a shocked tone, because I realized I was a half-celestial, but I & everyone else simply forgot about the wings. So I flew up and helped him down. Everyone had a good laugh at that.

In a diffrent campaign last year, I was playing a warforged fighter in a homebrew campaign. We were fighting against a large group of kobold half-white dragons. The party artificer put severel infusions on me; but most specifically Greater Construct Energy Ward(Cold) & Iron Construct and the half-white kobolds were unable to hurt me at all. In fact, they ended up retreating because they became afraid of me.
I real good ego booster. :D

Level 5 campaign, I am playing a Fey-Ri Rogue and my mate is playing a Human Teifling Rogue/Soulknife.

We decide that the demonic father of my character is the same demon from his ancestry, and that because of this bond we thought of ourselves as brothers.

The campaign starts with the Pc's meeting up at a Carnival, all having ben hired by an NPC in the local church - the 'Brothers' turn up a day early and take in the carnival, including the wrestling tent.
as we both pay to enter, there is no problem - but then a Judge approaches me (in Half-Elf guise) and explains that he knows what I am and would like to refund me my entry and ask me to step down (I haggled for twice the entry fee, but thats not important).
Deadmeat (the tiefling) enters the ring and squares off against his opponent, a farm boy looking type - and proceeds (without any unarmed feats) to grapple, lift and chuck the guy out of the ring - at which point the opponent's polymorph is negated and he turns back into a young gold dragon wyrmling!

needless to say I was amused and he was bemused...

my campaigns have had a few

1. our party of fouth level characters were running from enraged drow (don't ask) when they found a wide river (200+ ft) and a raft. my gnomish sorceror proceeded to summon a porpoise and used it to find that it was infested with aquatic gouls, we rowed across, my character resommoning the celestial porpoise each time it timed out (i had used very few of my 1st level slots)
2.star wars d20, clone wars era, onboard enemy capital ship. the party is embroiled in combat with battle droids. my character (twi'lek jedi guardian) attempts to charge at a battle droid over a set of boxes, criticaly fails the tumble check, and falls over about 6 meters short. he was unconsious within 3 rounds.

will post more when i get/remember more
