"Elite" human [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-16-06, 08:28 AM Has anybody an idea what this "elite" -description means, when attached to an npc???

for example:
male elite illuskan human ranger 5

sometimes its "augmented" or both.

Ok, I found "augmented" in MMIII, but "elite" is still a mystery to me.

07-16-06, 08:48 AM It means they use the humanoid elite ability score array which is higher than the normal humanoid array.
This is given in the MM, where the normal array is 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8.
The elite array is 15, 14, 13,12, 10, 8.

The elite array is only given to humanoids who have been advanced in level (so your illuskan human ranger 5 uses the elite array, while a illuskan human ranger 1 uses the basic array being a non-advanced humanoid)

Augmented usually means it had a type change due to a template or similar, or sometimes that is just had a template put on.

Instead of having a 10 or 11 in all stats, they have a 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 and an 8 assigned as the player or DM likes.

They also get max HP at first level.

Depending on how high PC stats are, 'Elite' monsters are more of a challenge (i.e if the PCs are on a 25-point buy) or slightly less of walkover (if you use higher powered stats like I do!)

'Augmented' is usually attached to the type or subtype, meaning that it has additional abilties on top of the normal type or subtype; Vampires, for example, are Medium Undead (Augmented Humanoid)
