I think it was in the first edition Dungeon Master's Guide, but maybe it was second edition, there was a short section called "Example of Play". It was essentially a dialog scene, written as a play, between the Dungeon Master and a couple of players. A lot of other role-playing games had similar sections, a page or two long, and when I was a kid I loved reading that.

Recently, I fell in love with the Knights of the Dinner Table comic, and although it's a comedy, I've realized that once again, the reason I like it, is it's essentially a really long "example of play".

So does anyone know of any more such "examples of play" on the web I could peruse? Maybe even an entire adventure module, written as a play or novel, as one really long "example of play".

It's on page 8 of the 3.5 DMG. Actually, it's a rewrite of the old example from the AD&D DMG. In that book there is a map that shows the dungeon that this current example of play occurs in, as well as some map keys to tell you where the ghouls are. Actually, I'm not sure whether that was in the 1st ed. or 2nd ed. book. There was another example of play in which a party pushes a block to get to a secret door in the ceiling, after which they are attacked by wererats or something. Someone stole all my old books, so I can't reference it.
