"Game Aids" [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-29-06, 02:50 PM Hey all, I was just wondering what kind of "game aids" people use (aside from books, paper and dice). I myself am partial to counters, maptiles, postermaps and of course the battlemap. i find it helps bring the game to life in its own small way (I am a very visual person). I know the battle map style does not work in alot of groups but i enjoy it.

What do you guys like to use for counters, props, etc.?

03-29-06, 03:33 PM The one 3.5 psionic character I played made heavy use of Psionic Weapon, so to track his psionic focus, I made this paper headband that said "FOCUS!" on it in big, bold letters. When he had his psionic focus, I donned the headband. Whenever he expended it or otherwise lost it, I took it off.

Didn't last very long though.

Our regular DM is a huge fan of army men. Go to a thrift store and buy a 99 cent bucket of army men and you're basically set for minis. Just use a little model paint to color code them.

I like to use pics, especially of a monster the PCs have never encountered or of an important site. My pcs don't have the MM's so most of them have no idea what the monsters look like.

03-29-06, 05:53 PM I took every picture from the monster art galleries and converted them into counters using Paint Shop Pro. So if I don't have a mini for the monster, I do have a counter of the right size with a picture.

Herpes Simplex is just a virus. There is no "herpes simplex A" :P

03-30-06, 12:22 PM You sometimes see in a store window, a little cardboard sign that says, "Be back at..." and has a clock with moveable plastic hands. You can get those at Staples or Wal-Mart. When I DM, I use one to track time for the characters.

That's what I get for being half asleep when posting. I also meant herpes simplex 1, or HSV-1. It's difficult to think of an STD for which the disease has a different name than the pathogen, and, as you can tell, I failed.
